00:00:03:04 - 00:00:17:19
Chris
Hello and welcome to the Ending Body Burnout Show. We are your host Chris and Fili, co-founders of a multi-award winning functional medicine practice serving busy people with energy, mood and gut issues. While busyness.
00:00:17:19 - 00:00:24:21
Filly
Addictive, doing, people pleasing and perfectionism might be the norm, it's not normal and it's a major contributor to health issues.
00:00:24:23 - 00:00:38:04
Chris
Our goal with this show is to give you a holistic, root root cause approach to healing your body so that you don't have to continue doctor or diet hopping or popping a gazillion supplements hoping something might stick.
00:00:38:05 - 00:00:46:08
Filly
So get ready to heal your body, get your spark back deeply, connect with yourself, and step into the life of your dreams.
00:00:46:10 - 00:00:55:08
Chris
Let's dive in.
00:00:55:10 - 00:01:28:14
Filly
How long or how delicious has it been? Being able to be a little fly on the wall and listening to our clients and our retreat is experience and healing journeys. I feel like I probably should have pre framed back in September when we started sharing these episodes that this is a, real life personal healing journeys coming up over the next couple of months.
00:01:28:14 - 00:02:01:14
Filly
So the wonderful tier is our last one. I'm sure not forever, but for this series and this podcast episode is all about letting go of fear and worry and anchoring into safety. So. Tia Duck. She has a business called TDK creative. She's the most amazing photographer, beautiful storyteller. And she we were privileged enough to have her at our retreat, both as a participant inside the retreat.
00:02:01:14 - 00:02:17:01
Filly
But she also, flitted in and out, taking some beautiful photos as well. Now, if you're watching this on listening to this via audio, that is cool. But if you want to be able to,
00:02:17:02 - 00:02:44:07
Filly
Visually see all the beautiful pictures and all the beautiful experiences and moments and memories that occurred at the retreat, I'd actually jump over to YouTube to watch and listen this one. Because yeah, I think you'll get more of a a deep sense and understanding of, yeah, the experience that we held space for, for those who came along to the retreat.
00:02:44:07 - 00:03:16:03
Filly
And we do have another one coming up end of October. So make sure you check out the show notes. If you really resonate with this and you're feeling pulled to coming along to one of our healing transformational retreats. Check out the show notes below. Okay, so in this episode, yeah, Tia opens up about her retreat experience, how she came in with fear, worry, apprehension to find deep safety within the group, the land and her the inner parts of herself.
00:03:16:05 - 00:03:46:14
Filly
And she also goes back into the backstory of, the weird and chronic health issues that she'd been struggling with for including ending up in hospital with severe burnout. And she's something I love about her is that she is just has such a big and beautiful heart. So I know that you're going to feel that when you're listening to this episode.
00:03:46:16 - 00:04:18:17
Filly
And this big heart of hers is also radiating out to you, the listener. And that was something that we that again at the retreat, Tia was so good at holding space for other people and help and lifting other people up just by being her, not by being asked by, but by being her. And to also have healing and shifts and transformation within her during the retreat is just another piece of evidence that healing is possible.
00:04:18:17 - 00:04:46:06
Filly
And it comes in all shapes or four and forms. So a little bit of about Tia from her professional point of view. Tia is a freelance photographer who thrives in capturing those in between moments, the special seconds that sometimes go unseen but really are the most beautiful. She is a lifestyle and fashion photographer from Australia who specialises in unique content packages.
00:04:46:08 - 00:05:11:09
Filly
These include imagery, written work and the styling of locations and models. She has worked with brands like Billabong, Intrepid Travel and Curl magazine. So if you are looking for an amazing photographer, whether that's for your own retreat or for your, business, check your out. I'm going to put her website down below. Oh, and by the way, totally forgot.
00:05:11:11 - 00:05:43:15
Filly
There's some really exciting things happening in October. So the doors to our program ending Body Burnout method are open, as we mentioned in our podcast episode last week. We are opening the doors for a whole month this time. Previous to that, it's been one week. And yeah, we just wanted to to be a bit more slower, a bit more organic, allow, people to come in without feeling like scarcity or urgency so that you've got some time to make sure that it's a really aligned decision for you.
00:05:43:15 - 00:06:19:17
Filly
Because when you follow your heart and your intuition and you, whether it's our program or something else, things are going to change for you. So check out the show notes if you want to come join us inside the Ending body burnout method. Doors are open, but they do close the 27th of October. Also, if you want to learn a bit more about what how we actually support our clients inside our program and what it looks like to work through our ending body burnout method, we are holding a free Rewire Your Brain to Heal Body Burnout online event.
00:06:19:18 - 00:06:43:10
Filly
So every Monday over the next four weeks we would have just held our first one yesterday. When this comes out live but there is a replay, we're going to take you through the steps to essentially rewire your brain and your whole self to heal from body burnout and chronic health issues. We've run this, this free event in the past.
00:06:43:10 - 00:07:08:10
Filly
We've had thousands of people now coming along to it, registering to it, watching back replays, and we've had so much beautiful feedback around people who showed up, leant into those workshops and actually experience transformations just from the free content. So it's definitely worth your while coming along to those, there'll be coaching, there will be practices that will take you through.
00:07:08:11 - 00:07:34:21
Filly
It is definitely not a, you know, a standard masterclass or webinar where we're just going to talk at you and teach at you. I feel like in this day and age, there's so much information now. Yes, we'll be seeing in teaching, but majority of it will really be helping you, to meet you where you're at, to heal your, yeah, your whole self and to get to the root cause.
00:07:34:23 - 00:08:20:12
Filly
So you can find that in the show notes. And the last exciting thing that is happening in October is our next retreat, Heart Meets Land. So this is a live, in-person event at Tasmania. Yeah. Sorry, Glen Eagle, Tasmania. And it's going to be all about dropping out of your head, into your body, into your heart, connecting with the deepest part of you that wants the best for you, working through the blocks that are actually blocking you from listening to this part, or taking action from this part, and then building deep sense of trust and safety internally so that you can follow through on what your heart wants, what what you want for you
00:08:20:12 - 00:08:48:08
Filly
that's going to allow you to heal and thrive and have the best experience of yourself in this life. So come along to any of those. There's a few spots left for the retreat, so you can check that out at the link below. If you've been sitting on the fence, or maybe this is the first time you're hearing about the retreat and you're like, oh, my heart is saying, yes, great time to book in now, before that price increases.
00:08:48:12 - 00:08:53:04
Filly
All right. See you on the other side inside the episode.
00:08:53:05 - 00:08:59:03
Chris
Welcome, everybody, to this episode of the Ending Body Burnout Show.
00:08:59:05 - 00:09:02:19
Chris
Fili and I are very pleased to have a.
00:09:02:21 - 00:09:03:19
Chris
Guest on.
00:09:03:19 - 00:09:16:22
Chris
The call today. We've got Tia who joined us for our retreat The Body Knows retreat. Last month. So welcome, Tia, to the podcast. Thank you for joining us.
00:09:17:00 - 00:09:18:16
Angela
Thank you for having me.
00:09:18:18 - 00:09:42:22
Filly
Yes. We're so excited to talk to you. One, just to see you again. It was such a special time to be all together for three whole days. And like, at the end of the retreat, it really did feel like a soul family. It's like. Oh, Yeah. Part of that is just the honesty in which everyone is showed off and leaned into the experience.
00:09:43:00 - 00:10:08:18
Filly
And also just to see you again, to express so much love and gratitude for the beautiful photos. So Tia is also our photographer at the Body Noise Retreat, and it was such a beautiful experience working with you. You were so kind, so gracious, so respectful because, you know, there were some people who didn't really want to be in photos.
00:10:08:18 - 00:10:19:05
Filly
So it's like, don't worry, these won't be publicised on the website. And then there were others that were like, I love taking my photos.
00:10:19:07 - 00:10:20:20
Chris
And was that Carly?
00:10:21:00 - 00:10:22:10
Filly
Well, Christie.
00:10:22:11 - 00:10:23:14
Chris
Christie, Chrissy. Oh.
00:10:23:16 - 00:10:28:10
Filly
Carly also loved it. Carly asked for some, like, solo photos on the cliff.
00:10:28:11 - 00:10:34:13
Chris
She's so photogenic. Just in expressive, so expressive. So.
00:10:34:14 - 00:10:37:03
Angela
I think she's. She's so freely herself.
00:10:37:04 - 00:10:38:12
Chris
So. Yes, yes.
00:10:38:14 - 00:10:38:21
Filly
Yes.
00:10:38:22 - 00:10:53:02
Angela
Is what we're all working towards. But Christy is, Yeah, she's right there. So I remember the first day actually looking at Christian being like, oh, you seem very comfortable. You're gonna have to be a bit of a target for a lot of these photos.
00:10:53:04 - 00:11:14:10
Filly
Yes. And I mean, that was another thing, too, that I really loved about having you at the retreat as a photographer. And I will be talking about as a participant, because I also like, just loved that part of you as well. But it was there was really no point during the retreat that I felt like I was being photographer photographed.
00:11:14:12 - 00:11:15:09
Angela
That's.
00:11:15:11 - 00:11:18:03
Filly
You know, it was very stealthy.
00:11:18:05 - 00:11:32:14
Angela
Yeah, I think there's there's only like twice. I got your peripherals, I saw your peripherals catch me, but it was only twice. And if they hadn't, it would have been weird because it was a big zoom lens. And yeah, it was right.
00:11:32:16 - 00:11:33:12
Angela
That's really good.
00:11:33:16 - 00:11:56:05
Filly
So it's so good. And if anyone has been, like, eyeing off our beautiful photos on socials or in our emails, this is Ortiz amazing work. And she's just such a, like, talented photographer. But also, I think you're really good at capturing the story and the essence behind what's actually happening. Behind the scenes.
00:11:56:07 - 00:12:22:04
Angela
That's very kind. Thank you. It's lovely. This is, one of my favourite types of photography, as I'm slightly getting older, is, capturing people, I guess in moments that they might not even realise happen that are really lovely and they sort of make you feel something. And, Yeah, I think everyone, everyone does that natural emotion so well, whether they think they do or not.
00:12:22:09 - 00:12:27:11
Angela
But it's nice to be able to show people, you know, what they were doing at that time.
00:12:27:12 - 00:12:28:20
Chris
This is I've got a.
00:12:28:21 - 00:12:31:19
Filly
If you're watching this on YouTube, Chris is sharing some photos.
00:12:31:21 - 00:12:38:08
Chris
I did. This is a really cool folk because I feel like this photo, it's a soup.
00:12:38:08 - 00:12:38:21
Filly
And bread.
00:12:38:23 - 00:12:39:13
Chris
Of soup and.
00:12:39:13 - 00:12:41:15
Filly
Bread of peeps. Amazing food.
00:12:41:17 - 00:12:52:17
Chris
It was memories is a anchored memory of the taste of of of this. Yeah. I can I can feel that in my tongue while I'm looking at.
00:12:52:20 - 00:12:54:01
Angela
Oh, that's so good.
00:12:54:03 - 00:12:54:17
Filly
And that's.
00:12:54:17 - 00:13:04:21
Angela
That's right. It's like you want you want to see something visually that takes you back to the time, and you sort of smell it almost, and you feel it in your stomach and you know. Yeah, that's.
00:13:04:23 - 00:13:06:15
Filly
Yes. And that.
00:13:06:18 - 00:13:21:07
Chris
What a cool. So this is a cool photo. It's it's bread and soup and flowers. But you've I don't know, I'm just kind of nerding out on the composition of this food photo. It's so cool.
00:13:21:08 - 00:13:34:12
Angela
I love it. I love that you love it because when it came up, I started I start dissecting it. And so I'm like, you know, you could have done this and you could have done that. And so it's really nice to, hear someone just see them for what they are, which is really cool.
00:13:34:14 - 00:13:36:12
Chris
Oh, yeah. That's very good.
00:13:36:14 - 00:13:58:04
Filly
And that's, that was that was a common theme that came up in our. We've got a for those who are listening, we created a WhatsApp group for everyone who came along to the retreat so that we could continue connecting with each other and to shared her photos. In the WhatsApp group before I publicly shared any and there were quite a few people that was like, oh, this is so lovely.
00:13:58:04 - 00:14:09:19
Filly
Like, I feel like I'm back. Like I feel like my body and my emotions are back there at the retreat. And so and I felt the same way too when I got there, my like was.
00:14:09:19 - 00:14:10:08
Filly
Crying.
00:14:10:09 - 00:14:12:22
Filly
And I'm like, that was so special.
00:14:13:00 - 00:14:35:23
Angela
Oh, that's so cool. That's really great because you don't always, you know, from my side of things, I don't always in my work get to hear what people feel afterwards as much. Everything moves so quickly these days that everyone's sort of, like, content and just as much as we can as quick as we can. And, you know, to actually have feedback coming back through from a lot of the women that were there was really special for me.
00:14:35:23 - 00:14:37:19
Angela
It was really nice. So thank you.
00:14:37:23 - 00:14:43:23
Chris
This is another this is another good one. I think Philly, you've talked about the books already.
00:14:44:01 - 00:14:45:12
Filly
Do you want to explain what the photo is?
00:14:45:13 - 00:15:09:04
Chris
Yeah. So this this photo that's up right now is the would we call this a centrepiece? The circle centrepiece. There's, like a floral arrangement, but then also like pens and diaries and, the you you be able to see on the photo, the, the artwork on the front of these journals, these workbooks was something that Poppy, our oldest daughter, did.
00:15:09:04 - 00:15:40:23
Chris
And, and I think this, this photo tear that you captured, just shows like the just you can see them join together as well. Like the this how these this artwork there's multiple there's a meta level of artwork here. There's Philly with the intention of the centrepiece. There's poppy with the creation of the diaries. There's the layout and then there's the photo itself capturing all those, those levels of of artwork.
00:15:40:23 - 00:16:03:20
Chris
It's. And I don't know if I can resume in today. See if I can zoom in. I can't zoom in. Dang it. But there's a little. I don't know if you might be able to if you zoom in on your screens when, when you're watching this replay, there's. I'm just using my cursor to circle. Our daughter signed every diary.
00:16:03:21 - 00:16:11:06
Chris
So every participant got one of these diaries and there's a little. And so tears captured the the little poppy signature, which.
00:16:11:06 - 00:16:13:09
Speaker 6
Is sort of a cute something.
00:16:13:11 - 00:16:23:07
Angela
They were special, honestly. That was the diaries where, like I said before, but I actually have done it. I disconnected the front of my diary and it's going in a frame.
00:16:23:09 - 00:16:24:00
Filly
I love.
00:16:24:00 - 00:16:44:09
Angela
That, love it so much, and it just takes me back to the birds over the ocean, exactly where we were. I just think that was it was so special. And it's, you know, obviously the diary itself was so comforting for everyone because we got to write everything in there that was sort of coming through. But, oh my gosh, that was such a special gift.
00:16:44:13 - 00:16:46:17
Angela
I yeah, really love that.
00:16:46:19 - 00:16:49:10
Filly
I can't match that.
00:16:49:12 - 00:16:52:00
Angela
No no no no no.
00:16:52:02 - 00:17:18:05
Chris
It's the it's also the, the the thing I love. Speaking of AI and and photography and image generation and things like that. Like if you do in when you can on on these these paintings like the imperfections is is what makes it perfect, you know like and I think that's, that's a metaphor for life, isn't it. Our, our imperfections make us beautiful.
00:17:18:05 - 00:17:27:10
Chris
Whereas when it's too polished, it's too generated. It's, it loses that humanity, doesn't it?
00:17:27:12 - 00:17:49:06
Angela
100%. And it's seen, it's been seen before when it's AI, it's been seen before. So many times you just get that feeling, even if you haven't physically seen it before, you get that really strong feeling of all this is so generated. I've I've been fed this multiple times before, whereas when it's a realistic experience, I you just I personally don't think you can copy it.
00:17:49:06 - 00:17:52:15
Angela
You can't copy emotion. Well, I can't copy emotion anyway.
00:17:52:16 - 00:17:53:10
Angela
So.
00:17:53:12 - 00:18:10:06
Chris
You can. Yeah, I like that. Because because it's, it's been seen before. It's it's a mimicry. It's a, it's a, what's that word? Counterfeit. It's a counterfeit. It's not authentic. It's it's unreal. It's not.
00:18:10:11 - 00:18:31:19
Angela
Can we whether we realise it or not, I think we all disconnect on some level when we see the AI imagery now, because it is so often. So there's part of this that as consumers, we sort of go, oh, you know, not really interested in that or, or it feels odd, like it feels forced or someone's trying to sort of fake tell us something in a way or I don't know, it's it's.
00:18:31:23 - 00:18:44:08
Filly
Really weird business as well, I think. Yeah. Like even my, our daughters when they're looking, I don't know what YouTube or something or going through the feed, they're like, oh that's cool. Oh, I know, I don't like that. That's AI.
00:18:44:09 - 00:18:47:15
Filly
Is this AI?
00:18:47:17 - 00:18:50:01
Angela
So sometimes it's hard to tell.
00:18:50:03 - 00:18:54:04
Chris
Yeah that's right. Okay. I'll keep flipping through. As you as.
00:18:54:06 - 00:19:25:18
Filly
Yeah. Cool. Awesome. All right. So we would love to dive into your retreat experience as a participant, but also if anything comes through, like I guess, because I think as a photographer to you, where you become, I imagine you would have been very perceptive of a lot of things and a lot of small details as well. So if there's anything that feels relevant to share along that side of things as well, we'd love to hear it.
00:19:25:20 - 00:19:33:20
Filly
So what what caused you to say yes to the Body Knows retreat?
00:19:33:22 - 00:19:56:00
Angela
Oh my goodness, it's so interesting. So somewhere along the line I have and I can't remember the moment that I started following yourself and Chris. Not specifically. Anyway, it would have been. I would have seen something that you've spoken about and just really resonated. And so I've started following you. And then, you know, obviously the algorithm picks up where you are in your life.
00:19:56:02 - 00:19:57:05
Angela
Yeah.
00:19:57:07 - 00:20:36:10
Angela
It shows you more of what you want to see. So I had started seeing your posts more and more, and I was like, oh, I love this track. And, it all resonated so much. Especially for me personally, are the the body knowing and telling you sometimes whether you like it or not? In 2002 or about 2016, late 2016, I had sort of pushed myself to a point with, with work and with life that I ended up, in hospital in Sydney for a couple of weeks, and I basically sort of collapsed at an airport.
00:20:36:10 - 00:20:58:21
Angela
And, I was on my way overseas to a job, and I had gotten my body to a point. And I remember not long before that thinking to myself, I could feel that I was unwell, and I had such a strong disconnect with my body at the time from, you know, a long past of, you know, eating disorder history when I was younger and things like that.
00:20:59:01 - 00:21:12:00
Angela
So I had this really strong disconnect with my body. And I remember actually thinking, something's going to have to stop me. I just can't stop. Like, I'm just not going to be had to slow down. And, yes. So my body.
00:21:12:00 - 00:21:12:06
Angela
Was.
00:21:12:06 - 00:21:15:01
Angela
Like challenge accepted and.
00:21:15:03 - 00:21:18:07
Filly
Will accept that.
00:21:18:09 - 00:21:27:07
Angela
So off I went. But, yeah, that was I sort of had a 5050 chance of survival at the time. The doctors told me.
00:21:27:12 - 00:21:29:06
Angela
Who.
00:21:29:08 - 00:21:50:22
Angela
And, and what kind of came to me at that time in my life was how important the people I loved were. So I it stripped everything back to basics, like for, for a couple of days there, they didn't know what was wrong. They were talking about operating on my brain. And there was all this time there where I sort of just went, I just want to be myself again.
00:21:50:22 - 00:22:07:00
Angela
I just want to be able to speak again. I want to be able to walk again. And then it really got back to the basics of like, I just want more time with my family, just give me more time with the people I love. So, yes, that was definitely a stage of severe burnout.
00:22:07:00 - 00:22:08:16
Angela
For me.
00:22:08:18 - 00:22:31:02
Angela
And from there, it was a really sort of uneven path, I think, to figuring out what that really was. Now I can look back at that and go, oh my God, massive burnout, you know? But you don't quite get it at the time. So yeah, I eventually sorry. That was a long winded way of saying that I eventually came across your increases work, and it really resonated.
00:22:31:04 - 00:22:41:21
Angela
I'm still reading your book now, which resonates so strongly. I can't. Believe it. If anyone listening hasn't read Chris and Philly's book, please do.
00:22:41:23 - 00:22:44:21
Filly
Pop it in this ending body because.
00:22:44:23 - 00:22:47:08
Angela
You do.
00:22:47:10 - 00:22:52:00
Angela
Anybody? Burnout? I even took a photo of it. I saw that pop up earlier. Just because I thought.
00:22:52:00 - 00:22:52:16
Angela
Oh.
00:22:52:18 - 00:23:02:06
Angela
And yes, it's spot on. And I also love the way that you're telling the story to Philly. I have to commend you on that because it's very understandable and relatable. Yeah.
00:23:02:07 - 00:23:04:08
Angela
There it is. Yes.
00:23:04:12 - 00:23:13:23
Angela
Find your spark. And my daughter recently did a photo, and I don't know if she's seen that, but she recently didn't. Artwork. Everybody has a spark they can find.
00:23:14:01 - 00:23:20:20
Angela
And I'm like, she's not synchronicity.
00:23:20:22 - 00:23:21:16
Angela
Between that.
00:23:21:16 - 00:23:24:21
Speaker 8
And my husband telling me to lean in. I'm like, what is happening?
00:23:25:02 - 00:23:26:11
Chris
Amazing.
00:23:26:13 - 00:23:38:05
Filly
Yes. Just like real quick, there was a what was that? That was Friday night, and I think you were going to leave early because you were like, oh no, my child needs me.
00:23:38:07 - 00:23:38:21
Angela
And then.
00:23:38:22 - 00:23:47:23
Filly
Your husband's like, just lean in. We're here, lean in. And the workshop was lean in, and you didn't know, and he didn't know.
00:23:48:01 - 00:23:48:12
Angela
He hasn't.
00:23:48:13 - 00:23:50:11
Angela
I've never heard him say that before, ever.
00:23:50:12 - 00:23:51:12
Speaker 8
My entire life.
00:23:51:17 - 00:23:53:05
Filly
Is so cool.
00:23:53:07 - 00:23:53:20
Chris
That's.
00:23:53:22 - 00:24:18:15
Angela
It was really cool. And it was one of the best things I've ever done was staying, and actually experiencing the retreat, because that was a challenge for me as well. I know it was a challenge for pep two, the most wonderful ever chef that was there for the retreat. But to disconnect from your work and into the moment is really true.
00:24:18:17 - 00:24:21:16
Angela
And then not to reconnect into your work brain because you.
00:24:21:16 - 00:24:26:02
Speaker 8
See all these beautiful things happening. That's true. Yeah. So.
00:24:26:02 - 00:24:30:06
Angela
Yeah. I'm so sorry I got so distracted there. This is great.
00:24:30:09 - 00:24:39:09
Filly
Where the best conversations are, like the Segway spirally. Like we go where we need to go.
00:24:39:11 - 00:24:59:21
Filly
So basically, like, the question was what? What caused you to the retreat? So you had, like a pretty massive health crisis, major burnout. And then it's like, all right. And then algorithms feeding you all the things that it's like, oh, I think I need to like learn more about this. I think I need to do these things. And then the call outfit photographer as well.
00:24:59:21 - 00:25:02:05
Filly
It's like tick, tick, tick, tick.
00:25:02:07 - 00:25:29:08
Angela
And it's sort of a permission, I think when it's when I, when I factor in work into something, it's a permission that I give myself to experience something because, you know, it's for work. So that's okay, which is not the right way to do it whatsoever. But I was really lucky in this instance that I did lean in and, and it was one of the few times I think as well, learning with you both about heart, body and mind, was that.
00:25:29:09 - 00:25:46:13
Angela
Yeah. Yeah. That connection. When I thought back on it, I realised that this is sort of one of the more recent times in my life, and I haven't felt it before where my heart, mind and body can all come together on something and they are sort of all going, yeah.
00:25:46:14 - 00:25:48:17
Speaker 8
This is a really good thing. We probably should do this.
00:25:48:18 - 00:25:49:09
Filly
Yes.
00:25:49:14 - 00:26:13:14
Filly
Yeah. Can you talk into that a little bit more? Because I'm always curious. Like it's a big it's a big thing. For someone, especially if you've got a family and like a business that requires a lot of you or work to say yes to coming to a retreat, that is multiple days. And, you know, there's some logistical stuff that happens in that as well.
00:26:13:14 - 00:26:24:23
Filly
And just. Yeah. Were there any blocks that you had to work through or was literally like, my heart wants it and so does my body mind, and I'm there.
00:26:25:01 - 00:26:46:05
Angela
Well, it's interesting because I didn't I hadn't learnt the concept of heart, body and mind until I did the retreat. So looking back now, I can sort of go, where are they really? Did all quite sync up. I would say though, that my mind did attempt to couple of times to slip into old patterns of, you know, you don't know these people.
00:26:46:05 - 00:26:49:05
Angela
What if you get down there and they're like, oh, so sorry.
00:26:49:06 - 00:26:57:10
Speaker 8
Yeah.
00:26:57:12 - 00:27:00:06
Chris
What's that call? Is that called catfishing? Where.
00:27:00:10 - 00:27:28:01
Angela
You know, there's no but there's a lot of trust. And that's what I said to Philly as well afterwards. It's a lot of trust for you guys as well to put in someone haven't met and worked with. And so I think it was a really lovely combination of you both following your heart and just trusting. And then me sort of, you know, kind of working my way and then getting there and going, oh, I'm messing.
00:27:28:03 - 00:27:32:19
Angela
This is actually one of the best things I've probably ever done. So. Yeah.
00:27:32:21 - 00:27:58:13
Filly
When you because we had a lot of people reply back about, photography and, and when I just like, researched you more really I'm like, okay. Is she a good photographer? But like, honestly, when I jumped onto your website and onto your socials and also just our communication back and forth through Instagram, like we didn't even talk in real life.
00:27:58:15 - 00:28:01:22
Filly
It was like it was a big hearted yes.
00:28:02:00 - 00:28:02:08
Angela
Oh.
00:28:02:10 - 00:28:08:00
Filly
That's it was like, I, I really want her there. And there were a few logistical things that we needed to work out.
00:28:08:01 - 00:28:10:06
Chris
This is the this photo that's up on the screen is.
00:28:10:08 - 00:28:10:16
Filly
That was.
00:28:10:16 - 00:28:16:04
Chris
Like me. She's like, oh, she is lovely.
00:28:16:06 - 00:28:20:01
Chris
This is what she looked like.
00:28:20:03 - 00:28:47:03
Filly
And and again, like, you know, I anyone who listens to our podcast regularly, I've shared recently my story of how I created or come up with the idea, and it was a really hot lead, including like every piece of, like, every little detail of the retreat. So I just wanted to share that with you as well, that it was there wasn't any part of me that's kind of like, oh, I'm a bit unsure, but I'll say yes.
00:28:47:03 - 00:28:50:05
Filly
It was like, this is a big yes.
00:28:50:07 - 00:29:16:22
Angela
Yeah. And it was so interesting because when I got there, Pip, Annie and and Christie all looked so familiar to me, which is really I don't sort of have that experience very often. And then photographing you as well. Philly, you you felt really familiar. And then there was moments of, you know, that data, those deja vu moments where it's like, I've had a dream about this before.
00:29:16:22 - 00:29:28:14
Angela
This is really weird. And I know that's probably getting into a bit of woo, but, yes, I think it was very. Oh the cockatoos, they can't. Sorry.
00:29:28:16 - 00:29:44:01
Filly
Okay. So you you got there had the experience. What key what key insights did you discover about either like your body or yourself or your life during the retreat. Retreat?
00:29:44:03 - 00:30:11:01
Angela
So which I had mentioned to you earlier before we started recording, I a big one for me was I noticed how much peace I felt at this location. And I think that's a combination of the safety from the retreat with because safety is quite a big one of my bigger issues. And so, feeling the safety from this group of people, I kind of couldn't even believe it at first.
00:30:11:02 - 00:30:36:06
Angela
And then I think you listened to all these women sharing openly, and you sort of go, oh my God, you know, there's like all this time I thought I was mad because I had all these feelings and there's all these other women that are going through such similar things. So there was this really strong connection there. And then also the land that we were on, I think as well, was a massive part of the peace I felt.
00:30:36:10 - 00:31:04:20
Angela
But I happy cried like three times that weekend. I don't think I cried tears of joy, for since my daughter was little like I, it's been a really long time and it wasn't for me. I can remember the moments like one of them was just, sitting, looking at the ocean and realising. I think it was the second day I realised that it was safe here, and I just couldn't believe that it was to share and to sort of go into things to help yourself.
00:31:04:20 - 00:31:13:16
Angela
That was incredible. And then when we were dancing at the end, I couldn't believe that we could dance.
00:31:13:18 - 00:31:14:12
Filly
Yes.
00:31:14:14 - 00:31:20:18
Filly
In public. I mean, it was not private for our group, but it was still very public.
00:31:20:20 - 00:31:23:23
Angela
Yeah, that's.
00:31:24:01 - 00:31:33:06
Angela
And the other moment was it was that night that I'd stayed when I was going to go because I knew I wanted to stay, but I thought I should go.
00:31:33:08 - 00:31:37:07
Filly
So it's like you stayed an extra night after the retreat. Is that.
00:31:37:08 - 00:31:37:23
Angela
What, you're.
00:31:38:01 - 00:31:45:11
Angela
Sorry that as well. But, the night. So, so many moments. The night when I stayed and did the breakfast breathwork.
00:31:45:12 - 00:31:45:18
Filly
Yeah.
00:31:45:19 - 00:31:47:08
Angela
Yeah, yeah.
00:31:47:10 - 00:32:14:13
Angela
So I think just my, my inner self was just kind of so grateful that I stayed and took the time. Yeah. Because I know that a lot of us don't do that. It's really hard. It's sounds unusual to say, but I'm sure a lot of people can relate with that and how hard it is to spend time on yourself and with yourself.
00:32:14:15 - 00:32:14:23
Angela
Yeah.
00:32:15:00 - 00:32:32:09
Filly
And do you feel like that sense of safety and also, what's the word like the desire to lean in for self and like to work on self? Do you feel like that's carried over after the retreat in some way, shape or form?
00:32:32:11 - 00:32:46:11
Angela
Definitely, definitely. To the point where so, people listening might know this or they might not, that you both have an amazing retreat coming up. Just day retreat. Heart meets land. Is that right?
00:32:46:12 - 00:32:48:02
Angela
Yeah. Yes.
00:32:48:04 - 00:32:51:05
Angela
So this is me sitting.
00:32:51:05 - 00:32:55:13
Angela
Up on the east coast of Australia going, how can I.
00:32:55:15 - 00:33:01:10
Angela
Are getting worse? Because you feel.
00:33:01:10 - 00:33:18:10
Angela
This longing in yourself to get back to that space that you were allowed at that point in trade? So I can say that to everyone that once you go to a retreat with Chris and Fili, you will be visiting them often.
00:33:18:12 - 00:33:19:23
Angela
Because literally.
00:33:19:23 - 00:33:21:17
Angela
I just. Yeah.
00:33:21:19 - 00:33:41:20
Filly
Yeah, I love that. I've, I've felt that is as well. And then something that I then asked myself is like, how can I, I'm like, it would be great if I had like an abundance of, like, ever never ending resources of money that I could literally just go to a retreat every weekend.
00:33:41:21 - 00:33:43:14
Angela
This is good.
00:33:43:16 - 00:34:17:20
Filly
And so, so then it's like, okay, not possible in this season of my life. And I have children and a business, so how can I? How can I give that to myself? Yeah. How can I create space for myself to be able to do that? I mean, the reason why we did the the dance at the end, which was like somatic movement essentially was because something that I create space for myself is to go down to my local, local beach, put my playlist on, and dance publicly in front of strangers.
00:34:17:22 - 00:34:44:18
Filly
There's not a lot of people on the beach because we're in a very quiet coastal town and it's currently winter time, but that just being out in nature and also feeling free to be me, regardless of who is watching me or not. That has really helped me anchor back into that, like past experiences that I've had at retreats where it is kind of like this beautiful, safe bubble.
00:34:44:20 - 00:34:55:05
Filly
But then, but I don't think I would have started doing that had I not had that anchor into my body and that desire to want to have more of that. Yeah, definitely.
00:34:55:06 - 00:35:05:11
Angela
And and realising that you can give yourself the permission as well. Like that is your choice. I think that's something that we forget a lot, is that we have the ability to.
00:35:05:12 - 00:35:06:05
Angela
Give ourselves.
00:35:06:05 - 00:35:27:06
Angela
Permission to take this time out and add some peace for ten minutes even, and just sort of inquire with ourselves what's happening. Listening for the answers as well. It's something that I think we don't give ourselves the time in everyday life. And so at the retreat, we are laying down and we're, you know, you can't like, you're not going anywhere.
00:35:27:06 - 00:35:46:16
Angela
You're laying there doing the exercises. So suddenly your mind has a lot to tell you and your body. But it is possible to do that elsewhere. I just think gaining the tools from the retreat is really a really important step in, in learning to do that for yourself elsewhere.
00:35:46:18 - 00:36:05:05
Filly
Yeah. Yeah, I love that. Did you? So you mentioned, like the big burnout that you had previously in the past. And did you get any, I guess, insight around deeper roots of what your body was trying to say to you, like the root cause?
00:36:05:07 - 00:36:05:19
Angela
00:36:05:21 - 00:36:36:19
Angela
I think my, my sort of insights at, at the retreat were a lot around worry and fear. So a lot of it was around releasing, this consistent worry which I think can be generational to some extent as well. But you do have this or I did have this consistent worry. You know, even just around people in my life currently that I see all the time.
00:36:36:21 - 00:37:00:13
Angela
So there's, you know, there's this aspect to that where it's really not sustainable. It's it's not something that you, your body can continue feeling. And I definitely at the retreat felt my body sort of connect in and go, this is enough. Like we need to let this go. This is you're not going to be able to move any further forward.
00:37:00:15 - 00:37:22:12
Angela
It's really affecting your health. Not that this is how I was saying it to me, but that was just the feeling I was having. And so I knew that from, from actually just the stone ceremony at the beginning. I knew that that was something that I had to try my best to let go of. I didn't think it was going to happen on the weekend, and I'm sure there's aspects I still need to work on, but in all honesty, it really did.
00:37:22:14 - 00:37:47:06
Angela
There was a massive shift for me. On the second day when we were doing the in circle, and that was when I had a really massive shift around that. And I just find that so interesting. And such credit to you both as well, because your guidance during that ceremony was really what helped get me to the place of being able to shift that.
00:37:47:08 - 00:38:08:17
Angela
And it's it's life changing for people, you know, it's these things affect our entire life. So, Yeah. Sorry. I'm forgetting that you're that we're recording and you can hear me, but I just not that you can hear me, but. Yeah, I'm just babbling a bit there, but, Yes, it's it's very life affecting. So thank you to both of you because that's massive.
00:38:08:18 - 00:38:15:09
Chris
That was my favourite. I love bubble bubble waffle. It's all great. It's all just it's.
00:38:15:10 - 00:38:16:03
Filly
It's emotion.
00:38:16:03 - 00:38:23:23
Chris
It's truth. Truth comes out, in between in between the words. And when the words come together. I just love it, I love it.
00:38:24:00 - 00:38:27:05
Angela
And you got the visual aids for me there, too. So I'm like, looking at the photos kind.
00:38:27:05 - 00:38:29:22
Angela
Of going well, and I'm like, oh.
00:38:30:00 - 00:38:42:11
Chris
This one that we've got up on the screen right here is an amazing shot. I don't think that The Cove, like the actual facility of the Cove, have an angle of their facility from this direction. And so.
00:38:42:13 - 00:38:43:08
Angela
Okay.
00:38:43:09 - 00:38:46:02
Chris
So I think this is a good you should you could reach.
00:38:46:02 - 00:38:48:08
Filly
Yeah. I haven't seen that angle before.
00:38:48:09 - 00:38:53:01
Chris
That's cool. This is this captures everything. I like it great.
00:38:53:03 - 00:39:00:13
Angela
Amazing. Every time I look at that cabin, I see Christy at the front doing her exercises.
00:39:00:15 - 00:39:01:11
Angela
Yeah, I love it.
00:39:01:12 - 00:39:25:08
Filly
Yeah. Qigong. With the haven ING practice. And if you don't want to go into it, that's totally fine. But I'm. If if you're happy to share, like, what that actually looks like felt like to rewire because the practice was just, I guess for listeners, we did a after what was that? It was like one and a half days into the retreat.
00:39:25:08 - 00:39:28:06
Filly
So much can happen in one and a half days. It's nuts.
00:39:28:08 - 00:39:33:08
Chris
And yeah, it's crazy that it was it was only, you know. Yeah. That much time.
00:39:33:08 - 00:39:35:00
Angela
Yeah yeah yeah, yeah.
00:39:35:02 - 00:39:59:11
Filly
And so we done a lot of awareness of work around what's the body trying to say to us, what patterns are showing up? Lent in to discomfort. But not too far. And then on the Saturday, we did quite a chunky coaching workshop on insight. So. Okay, you have all this awareness. Now you're feeling safe to lean in.
00:39:59:12 - 00:40:22:03
Filly
What's at the root of this? And so for you, it was that fear and worry that was coming up. And then the haven ING practice was where we started doing some, I guess like inner child in a part subconscious rewiring work and really, again, like utilising this amazing body that we have. So Haven is where we grab our hands together.
00:40:22:05 - 00:40:53:16
Filly
We have our face rub our shoulders. It's such a simple technique, but it really helps to down regulate the nervous system. But it's also really powerful at reprocessing past distressing events in our brain so that then after the practice, you have a different experience of what happened in the past. And or you feel more resolute within self like something has shifted subconsciously or it's like, I like that is gone.
00:40:53:17 - 00:41:25:06
Filly
That is done. I feel safe now. And actually, that part of me back in that time, you know, there's often more like peace, empowerment, safety protection. So are you happy to share, like, I guess, anything within that practice that made it feel like, well, that that allowed you to be able to shift and start letting go of that worry and fear?
00:41:25:08 - 00:41:49:01
Angela
Definitely. I think sitting in circle was a massive thing for, you know, I have a bit of PTSD and, sometimes it can feel jarring when you're in a group of people like, I know I always sit at the back of groups. I was really lucky. I got to sit next to any and Christy and they were both, like, pulling my Mac forward, and I'm sort of pulling my mat back.
00:41:49:03 - 00:41:51:23
Chris
Oh, I didn't notice that.
00:41:52:01 - 00:41:54:01
Angela
Oh, totally. It was so this.
00:41:54:02 - 00:42:22:12
Angela
Amazing people. But yeah. So I think the safety that was felt in that circle was a big part of it for me. The Haven I haven't done a lot of Haven. I've touched on a little tiny bit in the past, but I found that extremely interesting because exactly what you're saying, Philly, you know, you're giving yourself the ability to drop into a deeper place that you might not feel for me personally safe enough to do so otherwise.
00:42:22:14 - 00:42:41:15
Angela
And when I did that, I was sort of coming in and out of your guidance, which is really wonderful. And it's a really wonderful component because it does keep you in the moment of what you're doing. Not that it takes you out of the work you're doing, but it does keep you in the moment of what you're doing.
00:42:41:17 - 00:42:56:16
Angela
For myself, I could, you know, very easily just go off on another tangent in my brain or hear a bird outside and I'd be out there, and then I'll be wondering what's happening later and what's dinner. And, you know, so I go all over the place a lot.
00:42:56:18 - 00:43:01:21
Angela
But yeah. Yeah, that I think your your voice.
00:43:01:22 - 00:43:25:11
Angela
Guiding helps pull us back in a bit as well. For me, it definitely went into a lot of parts work so that internal family systems sort of work, which I find so interesting and, I have never been so grateful. And anyone that's not looked into it, I think Chris and Philly could definitely help you look into that further.
00:43:25:13 - 00:43:50:18
Angela
I'm so grateful for all my parts now. And I think, I know personally, the save for example, the eating disorder part I had when I was younger, that part when I did a lot of work with it, is now one of my strongest, bravest parts. That drives a lot, but in the direction that's now healthy for me.
00:43:50:19 - 00:44:23:03
Angela
Yeah. So I have a lot of respect and, and gratitude for, for all the parts that make me who I am. In that particular session, I went back to a part that was obviously driving a lot of fear. And I was able to sort of sit with that part. It broke into three. So there was sort of a protector, a bit of a firefighter there, you know, when you look into ifs, that's they're sort of all obviously, connected, but not the actual parts of yourself.
00:44:23:05 - 00:44:33:12
Angela
So yeah, I got to go into that sort of that part and it broke into three and we got to sort of sit together and and make a group decision. With all our.
00:44:33:12 - 00:44:37:10
Angela
Hearts, bodies and minds. I love it. Yeah. That this was no.
00:44:37:10 - 00:44:56:21
Angela
Longer, serving any of us. And it was keeping us in this enclosed, boxed in state of fear and terror. And it's so real. You know, when you're in that moment, you can feel like your heart pumps faster. And I think that's where The Haven was really brilliant as well, because.
00:44:57:01 - 00:44:57:20
Angela
Does.
00:44:57:22 - 00:45:20:18
Angela
Remind you, when you're touching these really sensitive parts within yourself that you are safe at the same time. Yeah. And yes, by the end of the session, those parts decided to let go of what they'd been hanging on to. And there was a freedom felt. That was like I said before, it was quite life changing for the person experiencing it.
00:45:20:18 - 00:45:22:20
Angela
It's hard to verbalise it and get.
00:45:22:20 - 00:45:24:02
Angela
Across extending.
00:45:24:05 - 00:45:25:15
Filly
I, I 100%.
00:45:25:16 - 00:45:26:06
Angela
I just.
00:45:26:06 - 00:45:29:08
Filly
Feel it, understand it. But someone else might be like, what.
00:45:29:08 - 00:45:34:11
Angela
Is this? Yeah. That's okay. I'm sorry. I mean, we're working.
00:45:34:11 - 00:46:01:01
Filly
With the subconscious mind there, and that's where the subconscious mind isn't logical. It's not rational. Like to create change underneath. We need to work with the body, the soma. We work with symbols, metaphors, imagery. And so, yeah, often it doesn't like it makes sense to you. And it also makes sense to me because, you know, I do this work, and it made sense to you because you had the experience of it.
00:46:01:03 - 00:46:29:06
Filly
But sometimes we don't even need to make sense of it anyway. If you feel different afterwards, it's like subconsciously something has changed. And how cool is that? It doesn't have to be hard. You don't have to willpower. You don't have to, like, reframe cognitively a million times a day for ten years to get a change. When you can drop into the body and the subconscious mind, things can change really fast when you're ready to let it go.
00:46:29:08 - 00:46:41:11
Filly
And I think you shared didn't didn't like you and the three parts of you, was it the rock that you throw away off the cliff or something? That was like a real vivid imagery of like throwing something away.
00:46:41:13 - 00:47:00:16
Angela
So the part to begin with was in this, a glass box. When I saw her, she was in a glass box, and she's rushing to the point and trying to get all these things done, and to the point where I sort of couldn't almost even speak to her, and she didn't want anyone to get angry with her, otherwise the glass box would crack and break.
00:47:00:18 - 00:47:08:05
Angela
And then, you know, you feel in yourself that that part things, then everything just is over and, you know, it's the worst possible case scenario.
00:47:08:05 - 00:47:09:13
Angela
So.
00:47:09:15 - 00:47:37:01
Angela
She ended up, I was able to speak with her. And from behind her came quite the younger version of me. And then a teenage version of me as well. And so they were all there were these three versions that have felt fear through different things happening, but to a really strong extent, and were made to feel as if speaking up or being brave would just ruin everything.
00:47:37:01 - 00:47:53:03
Angela
You're not allowed, you know. It's not okay. So they ended up taking their they ended up the glass box around them, shattered in the end. And out of that glass box, they all had their own glass square box. And at.
00:47:53:03 - 00:47:56:09
Angela
The same time, I love it.
00:47:56:11 - 00:47:58:19
Angela
You were speaking about boxes.
00:47:58:21 - 00:47:59:03
Angela
Well.
00:47:59:03 - 00:48:02:11
Angela
So it's sort of like it took it to the place that was relevant for me.
00:48:02:16 - 00:48:03:13
Angela
00:48:03:15 - 00:48:21:06
Angela
And so they all had their own glass box and they all put their in this glass box. They put their fear and their worry and their everything that had gotten them to this place. They put into that. And then we were outside at the cove and we were on the top of the mountain, and they each took a turn throwing it off.
00:48:21:10 - 00:48:27:15
Angela
And the youngest me went first because she's obviously this. I can remember being really brave when I was.
00:48:27:15 - 00:48:29:15
Angela
Quite little, you know, like, oh, I'm, I'm.
00:48:29:16 - 00:48:48:18
Angela
So tough and, you know, so she went first and then she's sort of encouraging the other parts to go. And they sort of all had their turn. And then it's like at the end of the practice, you let these parts exist the way that they actually truly want to. And for me, that was they just wanted peace and freedom.
00:48:48:18 - 00:49:05:16
Angela
So for me, they then morphed into the black cockatoos that I'd just seen outside that morning. And they were just flying above the shoreline, and I could just lay back and watch them. And it was really peaceful. I mean, I'm so glad that you understand what.
00:49:05:16 - 00:49:11:13
Angela
I'm talking about. I what does it does look this up so it makes more sense. Yeah.
00:49:11:15 - 00:49:21:23
Filly
Chris is just putting the photo off of the black cockatoo because there's some significance in that as well. I think you shared. Did you say, is it rare to see a black cockatoo flying on its own?
00:49:22:01 - 00:49:28:21
Angela
It is rare. So when I looked at these photos, I sort of went, oh, there was two. But it was just in the moment. I'd only seen the one.
00:49:28:23 - 00:49:29:16
Angela
00:49:29:18 - 00:49:41:04
Angela
But there is a grandmother energy, and in some cultures it can be a grandfather energy that's connected with the black cockatoo. And for me, my grandmother was one of the bravest people I've ever met.
00:49:41:06 - 00:49:42:12
Angela
So it.
00:49:42:12 - 00:49:49:21
Angela
Was a really nice moment to see them. And kind of it was just for me. It was like a reassurance, you know, like, this.
00:49:49:21 - 00:49:51:16
Filly
Is synchronicity.
00:49:51:17 - 00:49:55:22
Angela
Yeah. Yeah, amazing. Really amazing. It's so.
00:49:56:03 - 00:50:11:22
Filly
Amazing now, I mean, you've shared a lot of what you've loved about The Retreat, but is there anything that you loved most or anything that you haven't shared yet that you loved? It's like trying to pick your favourite child.
00:50:12:00 - 00:50:13:19
Angela
I know totally, right.
00:50:13:21 - 00:50:30:11
Angela
I think I really would say for me it was a combination of the people yourself and Chris, but also the participants at the retreat. I thought how incredibly amazing that we just have all these brilliant, kind humans in one place.
00:50:30:11 - 00:50:31:16
Angela
Like, what are the chances?
00:50:31:20 - 00:51:02:11
Angela
So the people are the location, the cove itself are absolutely magic. I can't I think it's I yeah, I've been to a few places and I think The Cove is definitely one of my favourite places I've ever been to. And the third pillar would just be the work that we did. Like, I know I've sort of touched on this a fair bit, but yeah, it's the combination of these things coming together that you just almost can't believe it exists when it's happening.
00:51:02:12 - 00:51:04:11
Angela
It's it's really, really cool.
00:51:04:13 - 00:51:37:17
Filly
Getting goosebumps because that like, I, I feel that too. I think if it was, you know, we could have done a three day online retreat, but then it would be missing that nature medicine and even like travel medicine for some people as well. It's like just like to disconnect from my current environment to somewhere that's not only beautiful, but it's also like that ocean was so expansive as well, which I really wanted that to be there, to do that more expansive work that we were doing.
00:51:37:19 - 00:51:58:04
Filly
But then, you know, if the people weren't there, if you were just doing like, I think it would have been very different if it was a one on one, one on one retreat. And I think there would be some like really wonderful benefits in that, that you couldn't get in a group. But there's something really magic when you have a group of people coming together who are all there for the same reason.
00:51:58:05 - 00:52:28:04
Filly
Yeah, different things going on. But when you uncover it all, it's all the same stuff. Leaning in, sharing and also celebrating. Like, I felt like there was a really lovely sisterhood. Plus Chris and Simon, who was a facilitator of just, like, wanting the best for each other. Yeah. But again, if it was just the group and just the beautiful land, but not the the practices and the workshops and the transformational work, it would have just been like, oh, that was a nice, that was nice.
00:52:28:08 - 00:52:28:16
Chris
Lovely.
00:52:28:17 - 00:52:37:21
Filly
Like that was lovely. But not having that like, like I have actually come out of this feeling so different. I'm a different person.
00:52:37:23 - 00:53:06:14
Angela
I don't think that anyone without the practitioners present, I don't know that we would have felt brave enough or giving ourselves permission to go as deep as we did and share as much as we did as well, which has such a flow on ripple effect for everyone in the group. I just, I still remember the first time and I can't remember which participant it was, but someone shared and they shared so deeply in the circle and I was.
00:53:06:14 - 00:53:16:14
Angela
Just like, oh my God. It's like, we're going to be really honest now. This is amazing. Let's take a look.
00:53:16:15 - 00:53:20:11
Angela
Incredible. Very funny. Yeah, I've.
00:53:20:11 - 00:53:42:12
Filly
Had a few other people say that as well, even like clients who have worked with us, you know, for for months, months. Some who came to the retreat have been inside our ending body burnout method program for a year or two. Now, most people were like, I knew what I was getting myself into. And then some other people were like, didn't realise we were going to be so honest.
00:53:42:14 - 00:54:07:11
Filly
And, you know, it was uncomfortable for some people, but for other people, it was like, it's actually really liberating because I've been doing this work solo, like, you know, with Chris and my help, but sort of like hidden, in their own comfort of their own home. So when you can come out and, and it's also different to being in a group setting online as well, which we do that inside our program as well.
00:54:07:11 - 00:54:21:15
Filly
And there's so much convenience to that. And like logistically it's a lot easier for some people. But yeah, it's something very different when it's like I'm breathing the same air as these people and I feel safe enough to be honest.
00:54:21:17 - 00:54:41:21
Angela
And you've got all the sensory aspects as well, like you've got the sounds of the, of nature, and then you've got the beautiful isles that you were using as well. The face, the candle, like it's all very, unsupervised and sensory. So I really appreciated all those aspects coming together. I think it's everything. Oh there's everything.
00:54:41:23 - 00:54:48:19
Chris
So you you did a great job I get. Yeah, yeah. Thank you.
00:54:48:21 - 00:54:49:09
Filly
Thank you.
00:54:49:15 - 00:54:50:14
Filly
Thank you.
00:54:50:16 - 00:55:06:02
Angela
I'm so glad because I never know when I meet people for the first time. I can't know your smile. Like your your, you know, that you would want to see. Yeah. So that's amazing. That's really cool. I'm glad to have you with those. You did so well.
00:55:06:03 - 00:55:06:22
Filly
If someone has.
00:55:06:22 - 00:55:15:19
Filly
Been listening to this podcast on audio, I think you need to go back and watch it on YouTube, because this whole time Chris has been sharing, like all of tears and mazing photos.
00:55:16:01 - 00:55:20:07
Chris
This is this is Chris right here, right? This is this is a good Chris photo.
00:55:20:08 - 00:55:28:07
Filly
I remember that moment. I think I think you said do something that is like really natural. Like just yeah, that's you. And you're like.
00:55:28:09 - 00:55:33:14
Chris
The eyes are closed. That's up. That's true.
00:55:33:16 - 00:55:38:01
Chris
Oh there we go. It's Buffett dear. So funny.
00:55:38:03 - 00:55:45:08
Angela
So well honestly you're very easy to photograph which is a testament to you both just being exactly who you are which is awesome.
00:55:45:10 - 00:55:47:03
Filly
I love getting food.
00:55:47:05 - 00:55:49:16
Chris
Philly does really.
00:55:49:18 - 00:56:06:07
Filly
There would have been a time though that I no, I don't know if there was a time no old old me couldn't had to be silly in photos like. And there is some silly photos of me, but it's kind of like have to stick my tongue out and do like the peace sign, because that was like an awkwardness of yes.
00:56:06:08 - 00:56:10:10
Filly
Yeah, just like showing all ranges of myself.
00:56:10:12 - 00:56:38:10
Angela
It was really cool, actually, to, I think I get sort of a bit of a treat, really, as the photographer, because I do get to step back and I, am secretly quite an introvert, like I don't, social situations. Not this one. Interestingly enough, social situations normally leave me quite tired because I'm often trying to sort of read people's faces and see how they're going and make sure they're okay and, you know, all this sort of thing.
00:56:38:12 - 00:57:02:05
Angela
I didn't get that from the retreat, which is pretty massive, actually. I hadn't thought about that. That's cool. But yeah, I think it was it was lovely that I got to sort of step back and witness, because I got to approach the retreat from a really comfortable place for myself personally. Instead of kind of stepping into it and having to think about what I was saying and things like that.
00:57:02:07 - 00:57:23:02
Angela
And then from that comfort for me personally, I realised that I didn't have to do that anyway, because this group of people and what you'd facilitated meant that you could just step into this space and and be who you were and say anything, really. So that was. Yeah. I hadn't thought about that. That was interesting.
00:57:23:03 - 00:57:23:16
Filly
So cool.
00:57:23:20 - 00:57:26:03
Chris
Amazing was.
00:57:26:05 - 00:57:29:15
Filly
Showing that you just want to go back and eat all Pip's food, don't you?
00:57:29:17 - 00:57:54:18
Chris
Oh, good. I also I've also, I intermittently fast sometimes so I haven't had I'm ready for my. Okay. My first meal so so I'm like I may and as I, as I landed on this one, I caught myself in my peripheral vision in like the our view, which is like down here. Yeah. And I'm looking at the thing I'm like, I see myself, I saw myself lick my.
00:57:55:00 - 00:57:56:14
Chris
I have to replay and watch this.
00:57:56:17 - 00:58:02:18
Filly
You're doing what our dog Mindy does when she wants a treat. She'll do like little lip. Lip.
00:58:02:20 - 00:58:08:10
Chris
I feel like I just did a Hannibal Lecter. I'm like.
00:58:08:12 - 00:58:13:16
Filly
Okay, so couple cover two. Last question.
00:58:13:17 - 00:58:17:05
Chris
Look how small Philly is compared to me. Oh.
00:58:17:07 - 00:58:18:09
Angela
You were so uphill.
00:58:18:10 - 00:58:24:02
Filly
So I'm. I'm like, there's so much power in that little nugget.
00:58:24:04 - 00:58:27:13
Chris
What a little cute.
00:58:27:15 - 00:58:43:04
Filly
So what? Where since you've been home? Because it has been. Oh, we said we're actually almost been a month since the retreat. What the heck? What intentions or changes have you carried into your daily life since the retreat?
00:58:43:06 - 00:59:12:02
Angela
So I've noticed something I've noticed I don't want to mention is so I, I spoke earlier about the massive shift that I had during the retreat and, how that relates to a lot of people that I see quite often in my life. So I've noticed a really big difference in my reactions to some of these people are so where a fearful reaction in the past often incites a lot of sort of overthought, and then the worry comes and, you know, all this sort of thing.
00:59:12:05 - 00:59:23:20
Angela
But I've had a couple of instances where I've been able to just kind of go, well, that's okay. And that's so.
00:59:23:22 - 00:59:27:15
Angela
It sounds so simple, but for me, for my brain to go.
00:59:27:17 - 00:59:28:13
Angela
Well, that's okay.
00:59:28:14 - 00:59:35:05
Angela
It's like. Really like, is this possible? Oh my god. Because.
00:59:35:06 - 00:59:42:05
Angela
That's not been my life experience. It's like, let's find 5000 things at 2 a.m. that you can worry about.
00:59:42:05 - 00:59:45:13
Angela
To do with this particular conversation that that person's already.
00:59:45:13 - 00:59:47:01
Angela
Forgot about. Anyway.
00:59:47:03 - 00:59:48:09
Filly
That's amazing.
00:59:48:13 - 00:59:49:03
Filly
00:59:49:05 - 01:00:13:14
Angela
So that was absolutely massive because like I say, it affects weekly in my life because, you know, and and these people aren't bad. They're just they just are the way they are. And I have been reacting to that or overreacting to them from a very sensitive place. That wasn't wrong either, but just didn't belong to the situation with them.
01:00:13:16 - 01:00:39:09
Angela
It belonged in the past, you know? So, yeah, that that's been a massive shift for me. And I think having that realisation that I tie a lot of worries from when I was younger in with where I live, like our local landscape, I sort of thought that's definitely something I'm glad I've realised because I want to change that, you know, I love where I live and it's an incredible community of people.
01:00:39:11 - 01:00:45:09
Angela
So I can leave those things in the past. Well, work towards.
01:00:45:09 - 01:00:46:10
Angela
Leaving them in the past.
01:00:46:11 - 01:00:51:10
Angela
Yeah. But and I think the third thing, which I.
01:00:51:12 - 01:00:52:00
Angela
It's a.
01:00:52:00 - 01:01:04:10
Angela
Gradual shift, it's, it's trying to make more speaking to any about this recently. It's trying to make more time. And that's the cool thing, right? Like, we're still there's people that we're I'm, I'm still speaking to.
01:01:04:10 - 01:01:07:18
Angela
Weekly from the retreat like, oh my God.
01:01:07:19 - 01:01:12:06
Filly
Like it's amazing. And.
01:01:12:08 - 01:01:14:16
Angela
You know, and I send each other bird photos just.
01:01:14:16 - 01:01:17:12
Angela
Randomly, like, which is perfect. I just.
01:01:17:12 - 01:01:25:03
Angela
Love the visuals. So, yeah, it's it's really.
01:01:25:05 - 01:01:36:21
Angela
I don't know, it's taking time for myself that I wouldn't have let myself have otherwise. And I'm trying to work that into my everyday life. That's that's been a bit of a process. I can't say I'm doing that perfectly by any means.
01:01:36:23 - 01:01:37:16
Filly
Yeah.
01:01:37:18 - 01:02:02:14
Filly
And it often is. I think that that's a good thing to acknowledge is that there can be, and it sounds like there has been some big shifts that happen, like literally in just a few days. And then there's also some other things that it's like, now I have more awareness or now I even have like more self permission or confidence in myself that I can continue working on those.
01:02:02:15 - 01:02:31:01
Filly
Unfortunately, like not everything will change in a moment. So but like it's like it's step by step by step, that and and you can't have insights without action. Like, you could have an insight, but then if you're not in acting upon it, then it doesn't become who you are now or who you actually already are without all the layers.
01:02:31:03 - 01:02:56:20
Filly
So yeah, so it is like it's just like, and that's where it's life changing. Like it can it's life changing both for far out this thing that I was really struggling with, like just after a few days, my brain is thinking differently about it now. That's insane. Like an awesome. Yeah. Me. So that's life changing. But also the life changing can sometimes come a year later.
01:02:56:22 - 01:03:15:02
Filly
Or it's like because of that experience that I have that actually changed the trajectory of how I am being and living in my life. And now I can look back and say, it was at that point that this thing has changed now, and it might be like a year or five years into the future, but it's still life changing.
01:03:15:02 - 01:03:17:17
Filly
It's just a little bit smarter.
01:03:17:19 - 01:03:18:07
Filly
Yeah.
01:03:18:08 - 01:03:48:12
Angela
Yeah, exactly. And being able to look back as well, like you say, even a long time from where you are now, you'll be able to look back and go, oh my gosh. It's like, you know, when you work with anxiety as well and you sort of can try to shift when you work on shifting your mind into that space of life is working for us, even if we don't realise it at the time, we will realise it eventually and at the time it can be really hard.
01:03:48:14 - 01:03:49:10
Filly
Yeah, but.
01:03:49:10 - 01:04:12:16
Angela
Life is always actually working for us. And so then I think, you know, through the retreat as well, I can even look back and go, oh my gosh, how, how amazing is life that, you know, even the people that were triggering this fear in me, I kept being presented in my life with these types of people over and over and over again.
01:04:12:16 - 01:04:16:00
Angela
Because life's like, you gotta work on this. You got to figure it out.
01:04:16:02 - 01:04:21:06
Filly
Yeah. Then you can move on. Yeah. Next level unlocked now. Gardening.
01:04:21:08 - 01:04:22:16
Chris
Yeah.
01:04:22:18 - 01:04:24:21
Filly
I love it. So good.
01:04:24:22 - 01:04:29:13
Chris
Are so many wonderful, wonderful, wonderful photos and memories.
01:04:29:18 - 01:04:30:06
Filly
Yeah.
01:04:30:11 - 01:04:31:09
Chris
Thank you.
01:04:31:11 - 01:04:32:02
Filly
Thank you.
01:04:32:06 - 01:04:33:07
Filly
Oh, you're so welcome.
01:04:33:07 - 01:04:34:06
Angela
Thank you for having me.
01:04:34:09 - 01:04:42:10
Chris
We've got the up on the screen at the moment is the, the what would you call this. The, the the dancing at the end.
01:04:42:12 - 01:04:48:14
Filly
The dance bringing the dropping the vision into the body.
01:04:48:16 - 01:04:49:13
Chris
It's amazing.
01:04:49:16 - 01:05:04:18
Angela
There's amazing. And how much does it just take you back to being a kid as well? Because like that, when we let ourselves be that free with our as well. So you're like, oh my God. And little use inside. They're going.
01:05:04:20 - 01:05:06:03
Speaker 14
I think I've.
01:05:06:05 - 01:05:33:10
Filly
Actually got an idea bubbling for another retreat. I don't know the title of it yet, but it might be something like Unmask and Shine or Play. So it's like, let's unmask and there'll be some inner child type work and rewiring, but it's like, let's play like, let's find a light and do what we've forgotten to do. That actually lights us up.
01:05:33:12 - 01:05:35:21
Chris
Disorderly, I love it.
01:05:35:23 - 01:05:52:02
Angela
Oh, that's so nice. Do you feel in the sessions as well? I remember there was one of the sessions, Philly, and the song came on at the end and I was just like, oh my God, I just want to dance. And then you came over and placed your hand on my foot, I think, or something. And I'm.
01:05:52:02 - 01:05:56:15
Speaker 14
Like, oh, Philly's here. And it's this really young, but it's so.
01:05:56:19 - 01:06:03:21
Angela
Bubbly at the same time. Yeah, yeah. It's like I give it a go, like build a snowman.
01:06:03:23 - 01:06:06:19
Filly
I love that. Let's go play together.
01:06:06:21 - 01:06:13:13
Angela
Yeah. It's really important to ourselves. It's so interesting. Yeah. Very cool.
01:06:13:15 - 01:06:22:01
Filly
Awesome. So if anyone's been listening to this and they're, like, curious about coming to a future retreat, what would you say to them?
01:06:22:03 - 01:06:53:11
Angela
Oh, my gosh, I know, I know that if you haven't been to a retreat before, it's really likely that you're feeling some resistance and possibly some fear, some concerns. Just putting my own before retreat experience on there. But you will never, ever regret just leaning in and putting a couple of days into yourself. It's just. Yeah, I know I've said life changing so far, but oh my gosh, guys, I can't recommend it enough basically.
01:06:53:13 - 01:07:08:06
Angela
And that's coming from someone who is can be very introverted, can be very fearful. Just take the step. Yeah. You'll be okay. This will be okay. And it'll be freaking incredible.
01:07:08:08 - 01:07:10:15
Filly
Mike drop.
01:07:10:17 - 01:07:40:21
Chris
I love these these hugs at the end. Really? There was such a beautiful, beautiful moment. I was logistics. I was packing some things up. Well, while most of this was happening while the dancing was happening. But then when I'd finished, I finished right as the last song or songs were playing. And I got to witness just from the from the periphery.
01:07:40:23 - 01:07:42:08
Filly
You had a little cry to didn't.
01:07:42:08 - 01:07:55:18
Chris
Yeah, it was really soft. It was really beautiful. It was really wonderful. And just seeing the, the, the embracing was awesome. It was. There we go.
01:07:55:20 - 01:08:15:15
Angela
I love it. The cool thing is, well, at this point for anyone watching on YouTube, no one knew that they were having their photo taken when they were hugging. And you know, I don't think anyone was aware that was happening. It was all sort of with the zoom lens, but, it was so genuine and it was such a beautiful array of moments.
01:08:15:15 - 01:08:19:21
Angela
I kind of couldn't believe, yeah, it was, it was a really special.
01:08:20:02 - 01:08:21:23
Filly
Very cool.
01:08:22:01 - 01:08:22:22
Chris
It was so lovely.
01:08:22:23 - 01:08:24:19
Filly
Oh. So good.
01:08:24:21 - 01:08:37:01
Chris
I want to I want to go to, There's one of my, one of my favourites. In, in terms of composition, was a yes. Do you know the one I'm talking about?
01:08:37:02 - 01:08:38:04
Filly
It's three hugs.
01:08:38:05 - 01:08:43:17
Chris
Three hugs or. It was like very metal. It was. It was very cool.
01:08:43:19 - 01:09:08:00
Filly
Well, you're finding that because I'm going to put it tiers website, your photography website in our show notes. So if anyone is looking for an amazing photographer for retreats or anything else, do you want to talk a little bit about, like your business, your services, how awesome you are to like the awards? And there's some pretty incredible brands you've worked with as well?
01:09:08:02 - 01:09:40:02
Angela
I have, I have worked with some amazing brands. I really have enjoyed working with everyone. I think that I've worked with. I can't say there's someone that I thought that was hard, but yes, I can say that I absolutely loved working with you both so, so much. I love I mean, I do a lot of different types of photography, from fashion to business to, not necessarily always family.
01:09:40:02 - 01:09:54:17
Angela
Because the first time I ever did a family photo shoot, the little boy didn't like photos, and he just stared me going down the slide. And, you know. It's like, I don't do a lot of family photos, but I photographed your family, and that was lovely.
01:09:54:18 - 01:09:56:01
Filly
Yeah.
01:09:56:03 - 01:09:58:15
Filly
And trouble. You've got some really beautiful travel.
01:09:58:16 - 01:10:00:10
Angela

01:10:00:11 - 01:10:01:10
Filly

01:10:01:11 - 01:10:25:20
Angela
I love artistic photography. And I really, really just have so much time for this genuine emotional moments that we have as humans together and being able to sort of document real life events and in beautiful places, I, I, I love it all. I love creativity, it's it's a gift. And, I'm just so grateful that you're both enjoyed your end.
01:10:25:20 - 01:10:27:13
Angela
Gallery. It's very cool.
01:10:27:15 - 01:10:29:12

01:10:34:15 - 01:10:51:18
Filly
Absolutely. Connect again. And yeah, thank you everyone for listening in as well. And just big love to you too. If it is being honest and being, you know, vulnerable enough to be able to share your experience at the retreat.
01:10:51:20 - 01:10:53:21
Angela
My quirky self.
01:10:53:23 - 01:10:55:09
Filly
We were all quirky, quick.
01:10:55:10 - 01:10:59:15
Angela
Embracing it now.
01:10:59:17 - 01:11:01:06
