How Our Client Neeka Rewired Anxiety & The Belief of Being “Broken” & Not Enough

If you’ve lived with anxiety for years (or decades), you’ll know how exhausting it is trying to “manage” it. Not just the racing thoughts — but what it does to your sleep, your gut, your energy, your weight, your confidence, and your relationships. It’s like your body is always braced for something, even when life looks fine on the outside. And after a while, it can start to feel personal… like you’re the problem. Like you’re broken. Like you’re “too much” or “not enough”.
In Episode 167, Chris and Filly from Chris and Filly Functional Medicine are joined by one of their Ending Body Burnout Method clients, Neeka, who shares her story of rewiring four decades of crippling anxiety. This isn’t a quick-fix, “just think positive” story. It’s a root cause medicine conversation about what actually changes when you support the body and the unconscious mind together — and why holistic health and mind body medicine approaches can create real, lasting shifts when you’re willing to lean in.
Neeka’s story is what Filly calls “evidence collecting”: proof that healing is possible. And sometimes, that’s the missing ingredient your nervous system needs — not more information, but more hope.
Anxiety Isn’t Just Mental: How It Shows Up in the Body
Neeka describes anxiety as feeling like she was in a “prison” in her mind. That’s such a clear way to put it, because anxiety isn’t just worry. It’s a state. A full-body state.
For Neeka, anxiety was affecting her physical health in very real ways: insomnia, gut issues, difficulty losing weight, body pain, and the kind of chronic tension that slowly drains your life force. It also impacted her confidence, her relationships, and her ability to show up in her business.
This is why burnout functional medicine and integrative medicine are so relevant for anxiety. Anxiety isn’t only a mindset issue. It can be influenced by:
- nervous system dysregulation
- chronic stress chemistry
- gut-brain signalling and inflammation
- nutrient depletion
- hormone shifts
- unresolved trauma patterns
- unconscious beliefs and identity-level wiring
In other words: whole body health.
When you take a holistic wellness approach, you stop asking “What’s wrong with me?” and start asking “What’s my system been carrying for years?”
The Scepticism Phase: Why Neeka Waited a Year Before Joining
Neeka shares that scepticism prevented her from joining the Ending Body Burnout Method for a year. And honestly, that’s so normal. When you’ve tried a lot of things, it’s hard to trust that something new will be different.
Many people on a WellnessJourney have already tried:
- diet changes and “clean eating”
- parasite cleanses
- NLP, mindset work, and shadow work
- supplements and protocols
- meditation apps and breathwork
- exercise routines that help… until they don’t
Neeka isn’t saying these things were useless. She shares that some of them helped. But they didn’t go deep enough to actually rewire the anxiety.
What shifted things for her was seeing the transformational results of her friend Sally, who did the program first. That kind of lived evidence can be more convincing than any sales page or promise, because your nervous system recognises it as real.
If you want to listen to Sally’s Ending Body Burnout healing story (Neeka’s friend who referred her), you can hear it here.
The Relief of Functional Testing: “It’s Not Just Me”
One of the powerful moments Neeka describes is the validation of getting her functional lab test results back — and feeling physically supported.
This is a big deal in functional nutrition and personalised medicine. When you’ve been told your results are “normal” but you feel awful, it can mess with your head. You start doubting yourself. You start minimising your symptoms. You start thinking you’re dramatic.
Functional testing can bring clarity. It can show patterns that help explain why your body is struggling — and that alone can reduce anxiety, because uncertainty is a nervous system trigger.
In root cause medicine, clarity isn’t just intellectual. It’s regulating. It helps your system stop scanning for danger and start focusing on repair.
The Real Root: “I’m Broken” and “I’m Not Enough”
Neeka shares that deeper root-cause beliefs of not enoughness and feeling like she was broken were causing everything.
This is where mind body medicine gets very real. Because beliefs aren’t just thoughts. They’re programmes. They shape how your nervous system responds to life.
If your unconscious mind believes:
- “I’m not safe unless I’m perfect”
- “I have to rescue others to be loved”
- “If I slow down, everything will fall apart”
- “I’m broken, so I have to work harder to prove I’m worthy”
…then your body will live in a state of bracing. Even on good days. Even when nothing is “wrong”.
This is why Neeka’s anxiety wasn’t solved by more coping strategies. Coping strategies can help you get through the day, but they don’t always change the underlying wiring.
Healing from within often requires addressing the story underneath the symptom.
Childhood Programming: Parentification, Rescuing, and the Cost to the Body
Neeka talks about childhood programming, including parentification and rescuing others to try to feel enough.
When a child learns that love, safety, or belonging comes from being responsible, helpful, or emotionally “mature”, they often grow into an adult who overfunctions. They carry other people’s feelings. They anticipate needs. They struggle with boundaries. They feel guilt when they rest.
That pattern can look like “being a good person”, but inside the body it can create chronic stress.
In holistic health terms, that stress isn’t just emotional. It becomes physiological load. Over time, it can contribute to insomnia, gut issues, inflammation, fatigue, and weight changes. It can also create a constant background anxiety, because the nervous system is always on alert for what needs fixing.
This is why a robust, holistic approach matters. You’re not just treating symptoms. You’re unwinding a lifetime of survival strategies.
Two Practices That Helped Neeka Rewire Unconscious Patterns
Neeka shares two profound practices that helped her deeply rewire unconscious beliefs and patterns, freeing her from anxiety.
Without turning this into a “do these two things and you’ll be fine” moment, the bigger takeaway is this: rewiring happens through repetition, safety, and embodied experience. Not just insight.
In integrative medicine, we often see that people can understand their patterns and still be stuck. The shift comes when the nervous system learns something new — when the body experiences safety, self-trust, and internal freedom in a way that becomes familiar.
That’s the difference between managing anxiety and transforming it.
The Outcome: Peace, Confidence, Boundaries, and a Thriving Business
Neeka’s results are huge. She shares that she has peace and freedom internally for the first time in her life. Her confidence is blooming. She’s showing up on social media for her ASMR business like a rock-star, and her ASMR practice is thriving because of it.
She’s also putting in boundaries and creating healthy relationships like never before. She’s eating all the things again. She’s releasing stubborn weight and seeing muscle definition.
This is the ripple effect of whole body health. When your nervous system settles, your choices change. Your digestion changes. Your sleep changes. Your self-respect changes. Your body stops fighting you.
