Chris

Filly
So get ready to heal your body, get your spark back deeply, connect with yourself, and step into the life of your dreams.
00:00:46:10 - 00:00:56:06
Chris
Let's dive in.
00:00:56:08 - 00:01:28:07
Filly
Hello! For those who are watching on YouTube, you will know that I am currently sitting on the grass beside my lemon tree and you might. If you're listening to this audio, you might even hear some background of the rain falling. It's just stopped raining. There might be some cars driving past and birds. And this is because I am trialling something new and recording a podcast outside.
00:01:28:09 - 00:01:54:17
Filly
In my conversation today with one of our past clients, Christie Russell, who worked with us inside the ending body burnout method, and she also recently came along to our retreat. The body Knows. I do share a bit more around why I chose to do the podcast outside today. I would love your feedback. So if you didn't find, I don't know, the external noises distracting.
00:01:54:19 - 00:02:18:11
Filly
Actually don't think that the audio picked them up very much. Let me know. And would you like more of these nature based podcast recordings? I'm even thinking, like, doing a podcast while walking along the beach, and you can hear the beautiful waves in the background, or climbing a mountain and doing a podcast on top of the mountain.
00:02:18:11 - 00:02:46:08
Filly
If we have a guest that we can connect with in person. Going for a walk while we have a chat. Nature is calling me. As you would know, if you listen to some of the past podcasts and I want to embed more of this beautiful planet of ours inside the work that we do, which is all about holistic health and reconnecting with self.
00:02:46:09 - 00:03:13:22
Filly
And I think something that can be so healing that we disconnect from or don't integrate it in a really beautiful, layered way in our daily lives is getting down and dirty, sitting on the grass, touching the earth, listening to the birds. So that's what we're doing today.
00:03:14:00 - 00:03:44:02
Filly
So today I talk to the amazing Kristy Russell. She, as I said before, past client, also attended the retreat recently and she opens up about her retreat experience for her. She is in the perimenopausal season of life, so a lot of the retreat journey was for her, allowing grief and letting go of past younger versions of herself to come out and through her, and for her body to let that go.
00:03:44:04 - 00:03:55:00
Filly
She also talks about giving her inner teen a permission to just be, because as a teenager, she, she.
00:03:55:02 - 00:04:25:22
Filly
Ran a lot of perfectionism, overdoing overachieving patterns. And also, we dive into the science and therapy behind communal singing and sound baths because not only was Kristy a participant or a body whisperer at our retreat, I also asked her to run a session on day two. All about using music and sound to ground and regulate and heal.
00:04:26:00 - 00:04:57:16
Filly
So we dive into all of that as well. This is a really special conversation. Love, Kristy to bits. Before we jump into the chat, I will read her professional bio. Just so that you know how smart this woman is and you know how kind, loving, intuitive she is as well throughout this conversation. So Kristy Russell is a musician, intuitive healer, nature lover, and self-confessed neuroscience nerd.
00:04:57:18 - 00:05:35:04
Filly

Filly

Hey, and one last thing before we jump into the conversation, we do have another retreat coming up. It is called Heart Meets Land, and it is one potent day of nature medicine to drop out of your head and into your heart.
00:06:09:07 - 00:06:40:20
Filly
It is on the 31st of October, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., full day of deep immersion into nature and really learning to listen to the language of your heart, which I feel is the most delicious and expansive part of you. I want you to befriend this glowing guide and guiding organ of your heart to. Because this is where you go from healing and getting your health back to really living.
00:06:40:22 - 00:07:06:18
Filly
So if this peaks your interest, it is at the most enchanting place. Glen Eagle There's beautiful domes available if you want to make it a weekend getaway for yourself to really re disconnect and reconnect with self and nature. You can head down to the link. There is an early bird special happening in the moment, but it will be finishing on 1st of October.
00:07:06:18 - 00:07:36:02
Filly
So come on down to the show notes and come and join us. And also in this podcast episode, Christine and I do touch on her journey inside our ending body burn out method program. So this is our six month holistic root root cause container where we do some really deep healing work both in your physical body and your body systems, and also addressing the metaphysical root causes that led to the burnout in the first place.
00:07:36:03 - 00:07:55:11
Filly
So doors open next month in October. October is going to be a great month for us. And for you if you would love to join us. So check all of that out in the show. Notes are welcome back. Kristy Russell, this is the third time we've had you on our podcast.
00:07:55:13 - 00:07:57:09
Kristy
Third time's a charm.
00:07:57:11 - 00:08:16:04
Filly
Time's a charm, and there is no one else that I would rather have many, many times back because you were just genuinely getting emotional as I'm thinking and saying this, like just genuinely the most beautiful, life giving human.
00:08:16:06 - 00:08:18:23
Filly
That. Yeah, that I've ever met.
00:08:19:00 - 00:08:35:15
Kristy
Oh, that's so lovely that you're saying that because I feel that about you as well. So we are mirrors, you know, all throughout our lives we are mirrors. So you're seeing something in me that is also existing in yourself. So it's a such a pleasure to be back.
00:08:35:17 - 00:08:37:18
Filly
Yay! So good.
00:08:37:20 - 00:08:40:11
Kristy
Part three of Christie's life journey.
00:08:40:13 - 00:09:04:21
Filly
Is life journey. Yes. So for those who might not have heard Chris Christie's episodes previously. Oh, dear. I can't remember what number it is. I'll make sure I'll put them in the show notes. But first one was when we first connected in a business group, and we really don't have into, your business stack then, which has transformed over time and the role that music plays in your life.
00:09:04:21 - 00:09:31:15
Filly
And you also talked about, I guess, like part one of your healing journey from a body burnout point of view. And then later on you started working with us inside our ending Body Burnout method program. And so second podcast was all about your journey inside that six month container. And today we have you back on because you recently came along to our first retreat, The Body Knows, and it was really special to have you there.
00:09:31:15 - 00:09:57:01
Filly
So you were there as a participant. And also, I really wanted there to be a sound healing component in the journey. And I'm like, Christy, would you be able to do this as well? And so you delivered the most beautiful sound healing experience. Not really just in that session that happened on Saturday night, but really throughout the whole retreat, there was hearts playing in the background.
00:09:57:03 - 00:10:15:08
Filly
We would see Christy in the mornings outside on the cliff, doing qigong in front of the ocean, or tai chi, little songs here and there. So thank you so much for spreading your light and love at the retreat as well.
00:10:15:10 - 00:10:31:13
Kristy
You're very welcome. It was the perfect opportunity to, you know, to to do all of those things that I would normally do in my, in my daily routine and ritual, I guess. Yeah, but just to have that amazing space as well. Yes, yes.
00:10:31:17 - 00:10:49:06
Filly
So good. So is there anything else? I guess from a like a bit about you yourself, where you're situated in your life season and in your business and how you're supporting other people that you want to share at the start of this conversation. Just so people have a bit more context of who you are.
00:10:49:08 - 00:11:13:08
Kristy
Yeah, that's a good, a a good kind of space to come from because not everybody will be familiar with me or even familiar with the work that you're doing. So, you know, hello to all the new listeners and new people. Tuning in. I it's very interesting, as you mentioned before, when we first met, it was through a business, through a business program.
00:11:13:08 - 00:11:44:23
Kristy
And, and and that was really the time when I was, I was building on my little side hobby, and I was trying to make it into an online business. And that journey was something, you know, something in particular. And then even I think that was back in the end of 2023, actually. So we're now sort of midway towards the end of 2026 so that, you know, that kind of three years, it's been a real transition into different seasons, I guess.
00:11:45:01 - 00:12:12:14
Kristy
So the season that I'm finding myself in now is simply an evolution of what's come before. There's still lots of music. There's still lots of education. There's still a really strong wellbeing focus. And I would probably say that that has grown in the last year or two, that that part of this of, of my patchwork of life experience and work experience and study has really that's really what's growing at the moment.
00:12:12:16 - 00:12:46:03
Kristy
And so, I still have my, my, my side business, my movers and shakers music, and I feel it's morphing into what I, what I think is what my true self and my, my body, my heart and my mind wants and is able to, able to do and be. And so there's a real focus on and we can go we can talk about that later a little bit if you like.
00:12:46:03 - 00:13:11:17
Kristy
But I'm really taking this year to, to pause from work as such. Like outside work, I left a fairly corporate job earlier this year to really focus on what do I actually want to do right now in this season? I want to do more music. I want to create beauty just for the sake of it. I want to faff about in the garden because it makes me feel good and it produces lovely food.
00:13:11:17 - 00:13:35:13
Kristy
And you know, it's great for our family and nature. And and I'm also studying an advanced course in sound therapy. So that's where my, where I've taken all of my background in neuroscience, psychology, education, music. I'm really diving deep into the things that I've been using intuitively and I've been curious about for a long time. So yeah, that's that's where we are at the moment.
00:13:35:13 - 00:13:52:02
Kristy
Still doing some, you know, work in the community, but just little projects here and there. Whereas next year I see the abundance and the harvesting time will be As a result of this whole year of really just going in with a little bit and really listening to myself.
00:13:52:03 - 00:13:56:11
Filly
Yeah, the wintering and composting of 2026.
00:13:56:14 - 00:13:59:19
Kristy
Excellent. Yeah. That's all preparation.
00:13:59:21 - 00:14:23:20
Filly
And then like spring will come 2027 I love that. Now this my I think this leads into the first question about the retreat because you've just shared what season of life you're in. So what maybe the word problem might not be the right word for you, but what what drew you to, to booking in to the Body Knows retreat?
00:14:23:21 - 00:14:31:11
Filly
Maybe there were some problems or issues or even just questions or something that you wanted to get.
00:14:31:13 - 00:14:57:09
Kristy
Yeah. Definitely. There. You know, earlier in this year I was I yeah, problems are really a great word to describe it challenges as well. There were some real challenges coming sort of to the tail end of perimenopause. Working in that corporate job that was really busy and, and took a lot of my energy. And there were parts of it that I absolutely loved and I'm so grateful for.
00:14:57:11 - 00:15:17:07
Kristy
And at the same time, I felt like I was going towards another burnout. And I, like there was alarmed signals going, no, you've done so much work with you. You you can you don't need to go into a burnout to take time for yourself. You can actually say, you know what? I'm pressing pause. I'm not sure why.
00:15:17:13 - 00:15:45:14
Kristy
I just know something's not right. And you know that definitely the perimenopause that that adds, it's not everything. You know, lots of women go through that stage and that transition. Absolutely fine. And that's wonderful for me. There were parts of it that were empowering, but earlier this year there were some parts that were really dragging me down. And so I was able so fortunate to have a family situation and really supportive work environment that I could take some time off.
00:15:45:16 - 00:16:21:14
Kristy
And I ended up retiring from that position and going, oh, you know what? I'm it's a little bit scary, but let's focus on me, my family, my, my marriage, my children and lets, you know, let's just, do a little bit of a reboot, I would say. And so, you know, even though I, when I first started working with you and Chris towards the end of 2023 and I, you know, I finished the program, I'm always dipping back into it, you know, specially those new growth areas where you think, I'm going, you know, I'm, you know, I'm just losing it again.
00:16:21:15 - 00:16:39:14
Kristy
I don't know, it's just a growth period. Yeah, yeah. We can go back to the you know, we can go back to our methods. We can go back to our, you know, our strategies. And so I guess it was just you know I'm a big believer and things happen for a reason. There's you know there's there's lots of things that are happening that we're not conscious of.
00:16:39:14 - 00:17:05:03
Kristy
Right. So your retreat, your birthing of your retreat was happening in your world and was also affecting other people's worlds in an effective my world because I thought, oh, this is going to be amazing. I know Chris and Philly and I know that whatever is going to happen. I'm there. You know, I'm such a believer in in your programs and in the work that you do, but also in the people that you are.
00:17:05:04 - 00:17:18:09
Kristy
You know, you're you're not just it's not just your job, it's your life. It's who you are. And and that's and that's, you know, that's really important. So for me, it was a no brainer. I thought this is all aligning. You know.
00:17:18:11 - 00:17:38:12
Filly
I love that the stars are aligning and far out. I don't want to say I attracted the group of people. I think just because I feel like the retreat was bigger than me and what I was like, it was an expression of me, but it was also just other things that I didn't understand that I'm like, oh, oh, we have to do that all.
00:17:38:13 - 00:17:58:02
Filly
But I'm not an expert in that, you know, an old me would have put that aside in terms of, I have to get some more qualifications before I can do that, but they were just things coming through that. It's like, for whatever reason, this needs to be part of the retreat. And so, yeah, just attracted the most amazing group of people, didn't it?
00:17:58:04 - 00:18:07:05
Kristy
It was I still get goosebumps and I still are, you know, it's something that will stay with me forever.
00:18:07:07 - 00:18:27:00
Filly
I love that. Oh so good. Were there any any blocks that so, you know, it sounded like there was a heart response of like, yes, I'm so there, but were there any blocks that you had to work through in order to say yes to yourself, to come along to the retreat?
00:18:27:01 - 00:18:28:18
Kristy
There was a small I identified.
00:18:28:18 - 00:18:52:12
Kristy
A small financial block, and that's something that I've identified in myself for a long time. You know, I, you know, doing the work even before I did the work with you and Chris doing other work in a work transformational, you know, looking at going deep into yourself and your your old beliefs and things like that. You know, I definitely had that scarcity mindset that was hanging around.
00:18:52:14 - 00:19:02:21
Kristy
Interestingly, it didn't hang around very long or strongly. So that was another sign or a signal that we are go.
00:19:02:22 - 00:19:03:13
Filly
Yeah.
00:19:03:15 - 00:19:23:13
Kristy
This is going to work. Yeah. And I, I also recognised because that's actually my first retreat. I've done plenty of day things and, but I've never, treated myself to a whole weekend and yeah, it's I was just ready I believe I was just ready.
00:19:23:15 - 00:19:46:13
Filly
Yeah. I love that there were many other people to the that were the same that it's like, oh, I have to have like a justifiable reason why I would spend a couple of thousand dollars for three days, if I could bring my family along, maybe that would justify it or, I don't know, there might be like a business component to it or something.
00:19:46:13 - 00:20:09:11
Filly
It's like, well, I get an eye on my return from that. Or sometimes people might just be at a breaking point where it's like, it's actually like a and so desperate now that I would do anything. And so it's so nice to be able to get to a point where you can be pulled towards something that it's like, oh, this feels really good and really aligned, and I really want to do it.
00:20:09:13 - 00:20:20:13
Filly
And I don't actually even need to justify why to myself or to anyone. I can just trust that I need to be there and I want to be there. Yeah.
00:20:20:15 - 00:20:21:02
Kristy
Yeah.
00:20:21:05 - 00:20:43:11
Filly
That's so good. So good. What key insight. So if you came in with this transition of the season that you're in. What were some of the key insights that you discovered learnt lent into either about yourself or your body or your life.
00:20:43:13 - 00:20:57:00
Kristy
This is a big question because there were some there were lots of little insights and a couple of big like light bulb moments.
00:20:57:01 - 00:21:31:10
Kristy
So I think those little moments were around the theme of, grieving older versions of me or grieving the things that I used to be able to do, all the things that I'm potentially capable of, but perhaps didn't, didn't expand on them. And so two key, two key things that came up. And this was actually through the breathwork session with Simon.
00:21:31:12 - 00:21:39:05
Kristy
That, you know, I knew in my head there were some grieving, but the breathwork session helped my body release it.
00:21:39:06 - 00:21:40:05
Filly
So just.
00:21:40:07 - 00:22:02:15
Kristy
Say that now. But the grieving was around the job that I had, the job that I had resigned from earlier in the year because I, you know, this is not my ego talking. I was quite good at it and I was capable of doing it. It was culture and wellbeing. It was consulting with leaderships, it was leadership development and all the stuff that my mind loves me.
00:22:02:15 - 00:22:04:22
Filly
I really believe that.
00:22:05:00 - 00:22:29:09
Kristy
I just couldn't keep up with my body. Like the cognitive, you know, some. For me, the perimenopause or cognitive gaps really showed up in my work. So that really impacted that part. Then on a physical level, I was still, even though I had retired from a year and a half earlier, I was still grieving that loss of having a really strong.
00:22:29:10 - 00:22:29:18
Kristy
But, you know.
00:22:29:18 - 00:22:30:20
Filly
I was I was.
00:22:30:20 - 00:22:48:02
Kristy
Training for my senior black belt, and I'd only been not even quite four years into my martial arts journey. So for me, that was like a real, you know, I could do this. You know, some of my friends call me Monica from friends, you know, because I've just got this, you know, I'm just gonna do it. I couldn't do it.
00:22:48:02 - 00:22:49:06
Filly
In the end.
00:22:49:08 - 00:22:50:07
Kristy
I was getting injured.
00:22:50:07 - 00:23:18:12
Kristy
And in the same way that my brain was tired with this extra pressured high, you know, consultancy kind of work. And I didn't realise that that was still stored in my body. So my key insights were around those themes of, it's actually okay, Christy, to go slow. You're not going to get fat and lazy and, and, you know, bored and depressed and, you know, all of those things.
00:23:18:12 - 00:23:35:00
Kristy
It's actually okay for you to go slow to say no. To pick and choose your projects and the things that stimulate your mind and to pick and choose the things that stimulate your body but nourish your body.
00:23:35:02 - 00:23:36:02
Filly
00:23:36:04 - 00:23:49:05
Kristy
So I and I'm just looking at my notes because I wanted to make sure that I, I captured the people that might be listening.
00:23:49:07 - 00:24:05:01
Kristy
I think having those three concentrated days and doing so much somatic work, so somatic being our body and really feeling and tuning into our body and our heart and our mind, but particularly our body, it helped sort of compound that awareness and the understanding.
00:24:05:02 - 00:24:06:14
Filly
Which.
00:24:06:16 - 00:24:27:22
Kristy
You know, in that short space of time. And I you know, I'm not sure about other people's experiences in those situations. Perhaps it's more of a slow burn for me, I think because I've been I've been working on myself for a long time, and I always will because I love that, I love growing, I'm curious, I love learning, I just yeah, I love all that stuff.
00:24:27:22 - 00:24:42:12
Kristy
So perhaps that weekend really compounded things that had already been set in motion? I'm not sure. All I know is it just the the letting go of the grief. Oh my gosh, it was so joyful and freeing.
00:24:42:12 - 00:24:45:12
Filly
And I you were giggling.
00:24:45:14 - 00:24:54:07
Filly
There were other people not having a giggling experience, but then we all hear Christy giggle and it's just like, this is joyful.
00:24:54:09 - 00:25:01:13
Kristy
And I kind of felt embarrassed at the at the as soon as I heard myself giggling, I'm like, no, I'm not embarrassed. This is fun.
00:25:01:15 - 00:25:02:20
Filly
Yeah.
00:25:02:22 - 00:25:03:16
Kristy
I'm just going.
00:25:03:16 - 00:25:04:12
Kristy
With whatever is.
00:25:04:12 - 00:25:11:15
Kristy
Coming out of me because I trust that there's something a higher energy.
00:25:11:16 - 00:25:12:12
Filly
You know, it is.
00:25:12:14 - 00:25:19:04
Kristy
There's other people's energy. There's a lot of love and compassion in the room. You know, I just, I guess I just trust it.
00:25:19:09 - 00:26:00:19
Filly
I love that it's so good. There's two, two things you mentioned that stood out to me. One is so Virginia actually was on our podcast last week. So she shared her experience and kind of similar. Like for her it was this really bad back pain. What's it trying to say to me. And then, you know, at the end of three days, although I think she knew on day one that it's like, hey, like we're in an older body now and and ageing isn't bad, and we need to change the way that we're living and being to match the season that we're in.
00:26:00:21 - 00:26:25:04
Filly
And so and I think that that's where I don't know, like in the health industry, there's a lot of anti-aging, like buy this product and you won't get wrinkles or, you know, the beauty industry where it's like, get Botox and all that sort of stuff. But even and if I go back to future sorry to pass versions of me, I could even like, I can remember my own language around that.
00:26:25:04 - 00:26:47:13
Filly
It's like, well, like it's not ageing, you know, some people will come through it like a new client will come into our clinic and they're like, oh, I think that I'm feeling like this because I'm getting old and I'm like, you're not getting old. You can be healthy until the day you die. Or like, you know, symptom free, healthy is very different to symptom free.
00:26:47:15 - 00:27:06:02
Filly
And so but they were the words it's like you can be healthy and symptom free until the day that you die. And till, like I started, you know, I mean, perimenopause phase now. And I'm like, my body is different and my mind is different and my heart is different. And I want I actually really want to live differently.
00:27:06:04 - 00:27:27:08
Filly
Not from a place of I have to fix this so then I can get my energy. My energy is fine. Like for me personally, it's kind of like my body is speaking to me in joints and so I have to change up what I'm doing physically. And even the way that I do business, I want it to be slower, like what you were saying.
00:27:27:08 - 00:27:51:10
Filly
And this is the very first time I've ever done a podcast outside, because I want to sit on the ground and touch the worms and the dirt and look over at my lemons, and there's a beautiful tree there with blossoms and past me. I don't know, like, I think it's like we can rewire out of getting old so that we can, like, stay in our 20 or 30 year old body for the rest of our lives.
00:27:51:11 - 00:28:14:03
Filly
Whereas I think, like what you've spoken about and Virginia and also what I'm learning and discovering about myself is there's so much wisdom and beauty and just gracefully moving into the next season, and you can still be healthy and you can still be, well, and you can still work with sensations and signals and symptoms that show up.
00:28:14:03 - 00:28:27:05
Filly
It doesn't mean that they're there all the time, but they're kind of like just little clues or little, little new pathways to go down so that you can continue to stay aligned with self.
00:28:27:07 - 00:28:28:09
Kristy
Yeah, definitely.
00:28:28:10 - 00:28:30:11
Filly
Yeah.
00:28:30:13 - 00:28:39:23
Filly
And I totally can't remember the second thing that I was going to talk into when I said there were two things. That's okay.
00:28:40:01 - 00:28:40:09
Filly
Well.
00:28:40:09 - 00:28:51:10
Kristy
I talked about, you know, I talked about being slow and I talked about, grieving older versions of me that, you know, were clearly not functional or helpful anymore.
00:28:51:15 - 00:28:52:18
Filly
Yeah.
00:28:52:20 - 00:28:55:17
Filly
It might have been the slow. Slow. That's okay.
00:28:55:22 - 00:28:58:01
Kristy
What if it comes back to you? It's important.
00:28:58:01 - 00:29:03:09
Filly
You know. Come back.
00:29:03:11 - 00:29:20:08
Filly
So do you. Was there a root cause for you like in terms of the problem and the stuckness. Like was that the grief? And then just not realising that the grief was still in the body and it's like, oh, when I can release this, then I can, yeah.
00:29:20:10 - 00:29:42:09
Kristy
You. So for those people that don't aren't familiar with the ending body burnout program, when you do, you get you get to the root root cause of of, you know, the dysfunctional beliefs and the, you know, the limiting beliefs and the patterns of behaviour and things like that. And I'm pretty sure you and Chris were talking about this over the weekend.
00:29:42:09 - 00:29:45:13
Kristy
It's usually related to your early childhood.
00:29:45:15 - 00:29:46:19
Filly
00:29:46:21 - 00:30:06:09
Kristy
Now since I've finished the course, the program and you did talk about this as growth. When, when you feel like you get a, it's not a relapse, but when you feel like you're in a new growth season and, and symptoms might start flaring up or you might have some, you know, signals that are, hang on, what's something out of alignment?
00:30:06:11 - 00:30:21:00
Kristy
It's probably going to be from your teenage or young adulthood. And I really identified my teenage Christy that weekend and a little bit of my early 20s.
00:30:21:02 - 00:30:53:23
Kristy
But very much that teenager of, you know, being really active and just do it, you know, at, you know, when I think back to my teenage years, I was a very high functioning perfectionist. I was studying classical piano, and I was, you know, I was killing it, right? I was, you know, really good and and doing a lot of performances and a lot of exams and, you know, I was getting pretty much a straight A student at school.
00:30:53:23 - 00:31:02:00
Kristy
And so I was like this perfect, good girl. But all I wanted to do sometimes was just lay outside and look at the clouds.
00:31:02:04 - 00:31:02:12
Filly
Yeah.
00:31:02:13 - 00:31:11:19
Kristy
Me too. And so there was a lot of anger. You know, I look back at my teenage I don't want to do this, but I have to do it. You know that force?
00:31:12:01 - 00:31:12:18
Filly
Yeah.
00:31:12:20 - 00:31:42:22
Kristy
And so I the root cause for a lot of the things that were coming up, really, I could link it back to my teenage, and, you know, and also that the, the bit about the early, early adulthood, I really wanted to be an artist just for art's sake. My mom, when I was 16 or 17, she my mom is a beautiful artist, and now she actually is, you know, she has done lots of, exhibitions and things like that.
00:31:42:22 - 00:31:56:02
Kristy
But I think I was about between the ages of 14 and 16, I think. And she went back to Taft to do a diploma in art, or maybe 1 or 2 years. And I was so jealous.
00:31:56:04 - 00:32:16:13
Kristy
Why can't I do that? She's having so much fun just creating beautiful things and, you know, having all these opportunities. And I remember having a conversation. Sorry if you're listening. I'm sure you've I've said this to you before. We've had this conversation. But I remember saying, you know, when you're thinking about what you want to do and go to uni and all that kind of stuff, and I just want to be an artist and it's like, can't make money out.
00:32:16:13 - 00:32:18:12
Filly
Of that. Yeah.
00:32:18:13 - 00:32:22:11
Kristy
Which as a parent I would probably say to my own kids and go oh sorry.
00:32:22:12 - 00:32:22:20
Filly
Yeah.
00:32:22:20 - 00:32:24:21
Filly
Yeah, yeah I sometimes catch myself.
00:32:24:22 - 00:32:25:09
Filly
Yeah, yeah.
00:32:25:09 - 00:32:48:10
Kristy
Yeah I really those, those couple of things really came up on the weekend. And I think that that's now that I've become aware of that and I, and I've looked at that as an adult and, and you know what? I can actually go and make some art and draw just because I can. And because it makes me feel amazing.
00:32:48:10 - 00:32:51:23
Kristy
I could literally be in my studio all day.
00:32:52:01 - 00:32:52:15
Filly
I.
00:32:52:17 - 00:32:55:04
Kristy
Wouldn't eat, I might come out for eating.
00:32:55:06 - 00:32:57:05
Filly
Maybe toilet.
00:32:57:07 - 00:33:08:21
Kristy
Just doodle away and draw and paint and create wouldn't bother me, you know? But you have to eat. You got to go to the toilet. I've got kids, I've got a husband, I've got a farm, you know.
00:33:08:22 - 00:33:09:16
Filly
Yeah.
00:33:09:18 - 00:33:12:12
Filly
There's some responsibilities, responsibility.
00:33:12:12 - 00:33:17:13
Kristy
So it's about that balancing. But being aware and I think the awareness is always key.
00:33:17:14 - 00:33:18:05
Filly
You don't.
00:33:18:09 - 00:33:22:22
Kristy
If you don't know what's going on with you like you feel something out of life out of alignment.
00:33:22:23 - 00:33:23:16
Filly
00:33:23:18 - 00:33:40:11
Kristy
You know it could be a million things. But once you give yourself the time and space to really look under it and do the process, what's under that, what does that mean and what else is under that. You know NLP process or whatever. It works for you. It's usually something really simple.
00:33:40:13 - 00:33:41:02
Filly
Yes.
00:33:41:06 - 00:33:46:14
Kristy
Really something that you can go, oh, I'm an adult now. I don't need to keep that with me.
00:33:46:15 - 00:33:48:00
Filly
Yeah.
00:33:48:02 - 00:33:50:21
Kristy
I can have a different perspective.
00:33:50:23 - 00:33:51:09
Filly
That that.
00:33:51:10 - 00:33:53:11
Kristy
Was so helpful when I was that age.
00:33:53:12 - 00:33:54:00
Filly
Or.
00:33:54:02 - 00:34:02:01
Kristy
That time of my life was so helpful. I'm really grateful for that. And now it's time to, you know, rewrite a different story.
00:34:02:03 - 00:34:28:13
Filly
So interesting you say that because my experience is the same. I mean, some contextualise this the versus people who are starting the metaphysical work, there's usually some big stuff underneath there that it's like, you know what? Like there's a whole heap of turmoil and chaos and patterns that have always been trying to protect you. And so, you know, they can be some big things that need to be changed.
00:34:28:18 - 00:34:54:04
Filly
But the further you are in the journey of just having a beautiful, loving, caring relationship with self when you go through a block, this is my experience is it's always a small thing, but your unconscious mind and it's probably more the nervous system. The nervous system is like, what are we going to be expected to do next? Like, what else are we going to have to give away or shed off or change?
00:34:54:06 - 00:35:24:08
Filly
And then like if you haven't, example would be, hey, like I've just mentioned, this is for the listeners mentioned, I'm trialling doing podcasts outside because I just found being in the podcast studio with artificial lights blaring into my face, and like so many buttons and the curtains close, I couldn't even see outside. This is all like because Chris wants, like, the best sound quality possible.
00:35:24:09 - 00:35:46:14
Filly
And then it's like, but I don't want that. Like, I want sound quality is important, but also like the energy in which I can speak my truth. But if I were to, like, have a conversation with someone and be really present, I can do that sitting down on the ground, even if it means moving my legs around because I, you know, one position might get a bit uncomfortable.
00:35:46:17 - 00:35:57:01
Filly
Like that's a small thing really. Yet before you realise what's underneath the surface and what needs to change to come back into alignment, nervous system is like,
00:35:57:03 - 00:35:59:23
Filly
Yeah, that's that's.
00:35:59:23 - 00:36:10:22
Kristy
Such a, we're so programmed, aren't we, with things that we don't even realise we're programmed with. That's.
00:36:11:04 - 00:36:11:15
Filly
Yeah.
00:36:11:17 - 00:36:19:18
Kristy
That's a bit strange, but yeah, again, that's the, that's the, that's the absolute scariness of doing this work.
00:36:19:22 - 00:36:20:02
Filly
That.
00:36:20:02 - 00:36:28:20
Kristy
Puts so many people off. And I totally understand, you know, it took me a long time. I think I was 30 before I actually even felt connected to my body.
00:36:28:23 - 00:36:31:02
Filly
Yeah.
00:36:31:04 - 00:37:11:16
Kristy
And before that I was just getting by. Of course, I was function. I was, you know, but yeah, really. And again, it's not for everybody, but for those are the curious and those that want something a little bit more or there's that whispering, you know, there's so many options out there that you can gently explore yourself and your beliefs and, you know, have an opportunity to really look at the things that you used to do or used to be or used to believe about yourself or, you know, even, obviously everybody's got different levels of, working through challenges and trauma.
00:37:11:16 - 00:37:26:16
Kristy
And so there's no so anything that I say here, it's not to it's not to invalidate anybody else's experience. You know, I'm really just talking about my own experience. But I know, I know there's there's something out there for you if you're.
00:37:26:18 - 00:37:27:12
Filly
If you really.
00:37:27:12 - 00:37:28:09
Kristy
Want some support.
00:37:28:10 - 00:37:30:04
Filly
You know. Yeah. Yeah.
00:37:30:06 - 00:37:33:02
Filly
100%.
00:37:33:04 - 00:38:01:23
Filly
Are so good. Okay. So you've talked about the. I have a drink, right. Oh the spray. If anyone's watching this on YouTube, Christi is using the clearing spray that a beautiful lady from northwest Tasmania Emma created. Oh, hello. We've got some lake. That's fine. Background noise is welcome. People might hear the kids playing in the playground.
00:38:02:01 - 00:38:15:13
Filly
Yeah. So there's a beautiful clearing spray that we use throughout the retreat. And I gifted everyone their own clearing spray to continue their practices. And I just love those sensory anchors. So good.
00:38:15:15 - 00:38:17:05
Filly
I'm back.
00:38:17:07 - 00:38:17:13
Filly
Do you.
00:38:17:13 - 00:38:18:02
Filly
Need to.
00:38:18:04 - 00:38:22:23
Kristy
Phone off? Sorry, everyone. I turn my phone off, but not on my computer.
00:38:23:01 - 00:38:29:11
Filly
That's okay. All good. We don't have to be perfect here.
00:38:29:13 - 00:38:44:15
Filly
Okay, so the grief came up and you realise. And there was also a connection back to teen life and maybe get you rewired. All of this in the breathwork session. Or maybe there were still some other practices or conversations that help to further.
00:38:44:17 - 00:38:45:02
Filly
Yeah.
00:38:45:05 - 00:38:55:21
Filly
The release process. Let that go. Was there anything else that really helped to rewire what is causing the stuckness at the root?
00:38:55:23 - 00:39:12:01
Kristy
It's interesting you say that because, conversely, like that Friday night, Friday and Friday evening, the breathwork session was amazing and so joyful and had so many what we would tend to say the positive feelings. Next day I woke up with the worst.
00:39:12:03 - 00:39:15:00
Filly
Yes that's right.
00:39:15:02 - 00:39:17:00
Kristy
Really struggled to wake up.
00:39:17:02 - 00:39:17:13
Filly
Yeah.
00:39:17:13 - 00:39:22:23
Kristy
And I remember saying to you in the session we had the group session talking about the line.
00:39:23:01 - 00:39:23:12
Filly
Yeah.
00:39:23:18 - 00:39:38:03
Kristy
Strategy of the line process. Sorry. And I remember saying to your, that migraines for me and my big signal that I've gone over.
00:39:38:05 - 00:39:39:03
Filly
The edge of.
00:39:39:06 - 00:39:42:22
Kristy
My comfort zone or I've, I've pushed myself too far.
00:39:42:23 - 00:39:44:01
Filly
Yeah.
00:39:44:03 - 00:39:52:22
Kristy
And here I am Saturday morning. I'm like, oh, my God, you've got to be kidding me. And I first I was so angry and annoyed. I was like, seriously.
00:39:52:22 - 00:39:54:10
Filly
I don't treat yeah.
00:39:54:10 - 00:40:00:00
Filly
It's like this is supposed to be perfect. Three days of like, bliss and harmony and restful.
00:40:00:02 - 00:40:21:22
Kristy
And honestly, in the end, like, that was the best thing. Another best thing that could have happened to me. So grateful I didn't shut down. You know, in the past I would have shut down. I didn't shut down. I was so gentle with myself, and I even was sitting in the beanbag listening to you and Chris talk and listening to everybody share and writing my notes with my eyes closed.
00:40:21:22 - 00:40:22:22
Filly
Because the.
00:40:23:00 - 00:40:23:19
Kristy
Glare was.
00:40:23:19 - 00:40:24:13
Filly
So much.
00:40:24:15 - 00:40:29:19
Kristy
And thinking to myself, oh, I just, I don't want to eat anything because I think I might, you know, it might come back.
00:40:29:19 - 00:40:30:07
Filly
Up.
00:40:30:09 - 00:40:58:14
Kristy
You know. So and then I was thinking to myself, oh my gosh, I'm going to do the sound session tonight. How am I going to do that? So there's so much inner chat and fear, and I really had to speak to myself and be gentle with myself and breathe and lot like probably I didn't keep count, but I would say at least 50 or 60 times, I would have had to intentionally talk to myself and ratio myself.
00:40:58:16 - 00:41:03:08
Kristy
You're safe. This is unpleasant. I understand this, but you're a safe, Christy.
00:41:03:10 - 00:41:03:14
Filly
Yeah.
00:41:03:15 - 00:41:06:11
Kristy
In a safe space, of course. That was tricky.
00:41:06:13 - 00:41:07:02
Filly
Yeah.
00:41:07:04 - 00:41:34:08
Kristy
And it also, it also taught me so much again about about, you know, life is not going to be perfect. There's going to be curveballs thrown left at you left, right and centre your inner sanctuary. Sorry. Your inner space, your mind, your body, your heart, those are your sanctuary. So it's so important to be able to come back home to yourself.
00:41:34:10 - 00:41:57:23
Kristy
I feel really teary saying this, but that's the work that I that's my huge work learning with the chronic pain. Work that years ago, making that sanctuary inside so tight and so welcoming and so protective, and then working with you and Chris and going on the retreat that it just, you know, it's like it's it's like hammering it in.
00:41:58:00 - 00:42:00:03
Kristy
I know that's a, that's a strong metaphor.
00:42:00:03 - 00:42:01:05
Filly
But it's you.
00:42:01:07 - 00:42:04:09
Kristy
Yeah. You've your body anchoring.
00:42:04:09 - 00:42:05:18
Filly
Let's say anchoring.
00:42:05:18 - 00:42:09:00
Filly
It is beautiful. And angry.
00:42:09:04 - 00:42:11:09
Kristy
Your body, your heart then not against.
00:42:11:10 - 00:42:12:06
Filly
You.
00:42:12:08 - 00:42:35:00
Kristy
Not against you. They are for you. They love you. They want to protect you. And you have such when you, you know, when you reach out, when you've got the right tools, when you've had practice and people support you through it. There are so many wonderful things that you can provide for yourself and empower yourself. And if you want to use the word heal yourself, you know, use that.
00:42:35:02 - 00:42:35:07
Filly
Well.
00:42:35:13 - 00:42:39:19
Kristy
But just come to a beautiful state of calm and inner peace.
00:42:39:23 - 00:42:40:16
Filly
Yeah.
00:42:40:18 - 00:42:42:05
Kristy
And that's really important.
00:42:42:06 - 00:42:43:08
Filly
Yes.
00:42:43:09 - 00:43:15:14
Filly
So good. I remember now, totally forgot about the migraine. But when you shared that, I think it was after the inner child grounding practice that I ran. And it's like it's your ultimate pressure test. It's like you've just the day before and like after at the end of Friday night, you came out of this like giggling, joyful release, and then next minute it's like, hey, let's just give you a migraine to really consolidate that.
00:43:15:14 - 00:43:19:12
Filly
You're okay to let go.
00:43:19:13 - 00:43:20:10
Filly
Yeah.
00:43:20:11 - 00:43:40:20
Filly
To work with. The body's allowed to be, then move through it. And you said something. I mean, it might just be reiterating what you said, but there was this real softness when you were talking about the migraine. And maybe even when I said, it's the pressure test. You're like, I'm so here.
00:43:40:20 - 00:43:41:16
Filly
For it.
00:43:41:18 - 00:43:44:01
Filly
Like, yeah, I'm just going to hold space for it.
00:43:44:02 - 00:43:44:22
Filly
Yeah.
00:43:45:00 - 00:44:08:20
Filly
We that I didn't feel any at that point. Surely it was there when you woke up in the morning. It's like what the migraine bit. By the end of that day there was just an acceptance not of the migraine and the pain itself, but just of the human being ness of living and having some sensations talk to us when they need to.
00:44:08:22 - 00:44:10:23
Filly
Yeah, yeah.
00:44:11:01 - 00:44:23:05
Kristy
And I think that's a wonderful metaphor for life in general. You know, you go to things like retreats or you go even not necessarily just retreats or you might have, you might need an operation on your body.
00:44:23:08 - 00:44:23:16
Filly
00:44:23:21 - 00:44:52:15
Kristy
You think, oh this is going to fix everything. And you know, hopefully it fixes a lot of things but or even a big learning curve at work, you might go to a really amazing group of workshops to learn new skills and things. But nothing is a magic bullet. You know, it's a combination of learning, feeling it inside, consolidating it, practising it, keeping on, practising it, and and adding to it and growing from it as well.
00:44:52:16 - 00:44:53:05
Filly
Yeah.
00:44:53:11 - 00:45:01:05
Filly
Yeah, yeah. So then I think you said you had a great nap that afternoon and you woke up feeling so much better.
00:45:01:07 - 00:45:02:03
Kristy
Well still there.
00:45:02:03 - 00:45:03:20
Filly
But it was okay.
00:45:03:20 - 00:45:04:02
Filly
It was.
00:45:04:02 - 00:45:06:19
Kristy
Quieter until Sunday morning when I woke up I was.
00:45:06:19 - 00:45:07:07
Filly
Like, okay.
00:45:07:08 - 00:45:10:01
Kristy
And I was almost tentatively waking up going to, I want.
00:45:10:01 - 00:45:11:02
Filly
To wake up.
00:45:11:04 - 00:45:12:15
Filly
He was still there.
00:45:12:16 - 00:45:13:15
Filly
Yes.
00:45:13:17 - 00:45:32:13
Filly
Well, that is so interesting. So interesting, because the second night was when you facilitated the communal singing and mantras and sound healing. I don't know if maybe the migraine made you softer, but I would never have thought that, like, this woman is struggling with something right now.
00:45:32:15 - 00:45:33:12
Filly
Yes.
00:45:33:14 - 00:45:47:09
Filly
What what was your like? What was your experience of the migraine when you were leading that? Was it there or was it just you, like you entered into your magic space?
00:45:47:11 - 00:46:04:10
Kristy
I didn't really notice it during the session. And I noticed that when I was setting up. And the thing about my particular migraines when I moved, when I move and like different, you know, going down and then going up, that's when the pounding happens.
00:46:04:10 - 00:46:05:00
Filly
It's like.
00:46:05:01 - 00:46:19:19
Kristy
Right up the back of my in the little pound back of my eyes. So even setting up and bending down and moving here and there, I was really conscious of going slow and see, isn't that lovely though? Isn't that lovely?
00:46:20:00 - 00:46:20:16
Filly
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:46:20:20 - 00:46:21:15
Kristy
Just go slow.
00:46:21:18 - 00:46:21:22
Filly
Yeah.
00:46:22:00 - 00:46:26:19
Kristy
Rushing around. Oh, that was the other big insight. Stop rushing Kristye.
00:46:26:20 - 00:46:27:10
Filly
Yes.
00:46:27:15 - 00:46:32:19
Kristy
That came to me like a big stop rushing Kristye. Like a big bellowing voice.
00:46:33:00 - 00:46:34:08
Filly
00:46:34:10 - 00:46:38:02
Kristy
And I heard I went okay.
00:46:38:04 - 00:47:11:10
Kristy
And again it was reiterated the night, you know the day that Saturday but also the night as I was setting up. So during the session I, I, I was in a zone which is good which I would hope to be. Yeah. And then after it, as I was packing, I was like, you know, still in that lovely post, you know, delivering something for the first time, feeling the effects of myself and also the pressures of like it was a little bit sort of there and.
00:47:11:16 - 00:47:15:10
Kristy
Yeah, but not, not intense like it was in the morning.
00:47:15:11 - 00:47:15:23
Filly
Yeah.
00:47:16:03 - 00:47:18:07
Filly
Yeah.
00:47:18:09 - 00:47:27:20
Filly
It's really hard to say what my favourite part of the retreat was because there were so many moments. It's kind of like, who's your favourite child?
00:47:27:22 - 00:47:30:08
Kristy
Who? We're not supposed to have favourites.
00:47:30:10 - 00:47:48:03
Filly
We're not supposed to our favourites. But if I was to put it in like, these are like my top favourites, it definitely would have been, the part of your session where we sat around in circle and sang and I'm getting teary thinking about it.
00:47:48:05 - 00:47:49:03
Kristy
Me too, I love it.
00:47:49:04 - 00:47:59:10
Filly
It was so, so beautiful. Especially the, it was. Oh, Butler tree, the sea ocean song.
00:47:59:14 - 00:48:01:22
Kristy
Yeah. That's so beautiful.
00:48:02:00 - 00:48:03:06
Filly
Can you sing it?
00:48:03:08 - 00:48:29:03
Kristy
Oh. Oh, God. Well, it sound really strange. I have to say. Beautiful. Alex Morse, if you're listening and taught us this song at Mount Rowland Folk Festival. I'm doing two shout outs there. Yeah. And so it is a little bit different to the, what you might hear him doing, but the version is so beautiful. Well, you sing it with me too.
00:48:29:07 - 00:48:31:21
Filly
I'll see if I can remember the melody. Yeah.
00:48:31:23 - 00:48:34:10
Kristy
Oh.
00:48:34:12 - 00:48:45:20
Filly
Take it all away. Take it all away. I can see another day. Oh.
00:48:45:22 - 00:48:56:02
Filly
I'll be home again. Watch me in the water. What she said.
00:48:56:04 - 00:48:59:17
Kristy
And that's all it is. And it just is so beautiful.
00:48:59:20 - 00:49:29:00
Filly
And we. It was so beautiful. And we sang it over and over. Almost like a wave. Just like rolling and crushing onto the ocean. And the words to were so beautiful because we were at the Cove, Tasmania, the most beautiful slice of the planet. Perched on the cliff of an ocean. And then the healing work, the transformation work that everyone was going through, it was, yeah, just such a beautiful piece of like, anything else that's left.
00:49:29:00 - 00:49:51:13
Filly
Let's, like, just pop it in the water and we'll sing it out through our voice. And I know that you love nerding out on the neuroscience of music and singing and sound healing. What can you tell us about the power that happens when a group of people come together to sing, especially, like, imperfectly?
00:49:51:15 - 00:49:52:02
Kristy
Yeah.
00:49:52:04 - 00:49:54:13
Filly
You know, it's not like a staged everybody.
00:49:54:15 - 00:50:45:01
Kristy
Yeah. It's very organic. Well, I mean, I think anyone listening, whether you identify as a singer or not, is not the point. I think you've all probably had experiences of listening to music or having a connection with music, whether it be song, you playing music or you listening to music or you singing. There's something extremely special and primal about music and sound and, you know, the there's so there's all this anecdotal, you know, the stories that people tell us, there's ancient traditions, you know, from and thousands, tens of thousands of years we've been using sound and music to connect, to transcend the, you know, the physical plane and connect with the divine or, connect
00:50:45:01 - 00:51:16:13
Kristy
with God or Allah or whoever you want to, whatever name. If you want to put a name or Mother Nature or, you know, there's something so special. And so I think most of us would have a personal experience of that. And what the beauty about sort of modern and modern sort of interpretation of music and sound is that we can we can actually start measuring it and applying scientific exploration and objectivism, and we can see sound in motion through some attics, for example.
00:51:16:13 - 00:51:57:02
Kristy
Or we can see the brainwaves change from a really like a or our nervous system change from really heightened or you know, disorganised or a bit like, you know, cranky or something to a calm, regulated state, you know, even to the point of, you know, if you've got small children or, you don't necessarily have to be a parent or if you've got animals, if you see a cute puppy, instantly your voice goes a bit higher and oh, look at you, you're cute that, you know, this is something so ancient and and primal for us and for us to shift our voice to be a bit slower and a little bit higher in
00:51:57:02 - 00:52:36:02
Kristy
pitch so that we're, we're conveying this sense of safety and connection and love. And I think, you know, the neuroscience in probably in the last say 2050 years probably, and certainly in the last 5 to 10 years is just absolutely booming. Everything's really evolving and we're seeing more and more that we can, we can explain and observe and reproduce, experiences so that we can have a little bit more evidence of why music and sound can be used in that therapeutic sense.
00:52:36:04 - 00:52:54:23
Kristy
And also, it shifts, you know, in a spiritual sense, it shifts it from something woo woo or a bit hippy dippy to something that's concrete and actually evidence based. We can have peer reviews for it. So, you know, I will definitely go down a rabbit hole. So I'm going to, you know, I'm going to rain myself in there.
00:52:54:23 - 00:53:05:18
Kristy
But look, there's so much neuroscience and scientific research out there. There's you know, even if people were curious about what happens when, when you play different.
00:53:05:21 - 00:53:08:08
Filly
There's a little spider. This was what happens when you do it.
00:53:08:08 - 00:53:17:14
Filly
And no, just like no, no it so.
00:53:17:16 - 00:53:19:07
Filly
Well wow.
00:53:19:09 - 00:53:20:23
Filly
Anyway.
00:53:21:01 - 00:53:22:05
Filly
It's a little.
00:53:22:07 - 00:53:23:01
Kristy
Floating around.
00:53:23:01 - 00:53:25:21
Filly
It's very cute. It's on a piece of web.
00:53:26:03 - 00:53:27:02
Filly
Yeah.
00:53:27:04 - 00:53:30:04
Filly
Okay. It's good now.
00:53:30:05 - 00:53:30:22
Filly
Well, where.
00:53:30:22 - 00:53:31:02
Filly
Were.
00:53:31:02 - 00:53:34:03
Filly
You up to?
00:53:34:05 - 00:54:03:05
Kristy
And. Yeah, there's. This is awesome, thing, you know, you can find on YouTube called semantics. We can always put a link there, but it shows the frequencies. You know, when I say frequency, like a just a single pitch sound like a like that. If you put salt on a speaker, on what's called love plate from the guy that originally discovered this, different frequencies.
00:54:03:05 - 00:54:12:21
Kristy
So higher frequencies, lower frequencies will create different shapes and different patterns. So that's something how we can just even see what sound looks like, you know.
00:54:12:22 - 00:54:14:03
Filly
Yeah. It's so cool.
00:54:14:08 - 00:54:49:09
Kristy
Of the day. Everything is everything's energy and vibration and sound is just a vibration that's, you know, full of energy that's moving through the air. Or you know, if you're underwater, you can still hear things. And so it's a really it's just fascinating. And I think my draw to it has always been, you know, I'm a musician. I've been studying music since I was five, and it's taken me on so many different journeys and most recently the neuroscience part of it and this adventure into sound therapy, you know?
00:54:49:11 - 00:55:16:21
Kristy
So really what my purpose to to study all of this is, it's for me as well, but also to share it with people. You know, this is this has so many applications to people's well-being. If I can share that. Oh my gosh. You know, that's that's a wonderful thing that feels both my cup and other people's cups. And hopefully that will just keep you know, the domino effect.
00:55:16:23 - 00:55:19:22
Filly
Is that.
00:55:20:00 - 00:55:43:13
Filly
Is that how you see it's connected to creating more of a collective experience and like bringing people closer together, or is that something different, like, is it kind of like where it's like unfeeling good. And so then the next person is like, well, I'm feeling good too, or is there something happening that kind of just brings human beings together when we're singing the same thing together?
00:55:43:18 - 00:55:46:22
Kristy
And thank you for bringing me back to a question, because I was going.
00:55:46:23 - 00:55:48:03
Filly
Oh, I know it's fine.
00:55:48:05 - 00:56:10:02
Kristy
There, but that's it's wonderful that you've you've become curious about that because there's this there's a few different principles or theories of understanding. One is mirror neurones. So we have these, you know, this is like a, a primal kind of set up in our regulation, in our nervous system to, to make sure that we stay as a group, you know, keep safe.
00:56:10:04 - 00:56:35:08
Kristy
So there's that social connection and social bonding that happens when we're singing together, when we're voicing our when we're using our voices together, whether or not in tune is not the, not the issue or, or even the thing that's driving it. It's the use of our voice. When we use our voice, we're activating our nervous systems, rest and digest parts of the parasympathetic nervous system.
00:56:35:12 - 00:57:03:03
Kristy
We're tapping into our vagus nerve, which is, you know, really that beautiful channel for relaxation and releasing oxytocin and endorphins and all those, hormonal changes that happen when you know that, that support, connection and bonding and that social part of it. But also there's the release of extra nitric oxide with, you know, that slows our heart rate.
00:57:03:04 - 00:57:34:18
Kristy
And so there's all these things that are happening internally and externally as well. And that's certainly that's very, very evident with singing in particular and humming even by ourselves. But when you get a group of people doing that together, the effect is then compounded as well. And in a similar way that Mirror Neurone or that, you know, we're set up to connect with each other and achieve safety and, and feel safe.
00:57:34:20 - 00:57:59:15
Kristy
In a group, the the concept, one of the underlying principles of sound therapy is that idea. It's it's it's a scientific term I suppose you would say it's sympathetic resonance, but it's really just this idea that if I'm producing a tone or a sound and it's a lovely, calming sound, then it's naturally going to have a calming effect on the person that is receiving that sound.
00:57:59:17 - 00:58:00:19
Filly
Yeah.
00:58:00:21 - 00:58:13:17
Kristy
In the similar way, but an opposite way. If you hear like a scream or a screeching tire or a really sort of discordant sound, you're going to react that way. Your nervous system to go, oh, what's that?
00:58:13:18 - 00:58:14:13
Filly
And so we.
00:58:14:13 - 00:58:43:09
Kristy
Set up for our our bodies are amazing. Our nervous systems are designed to respond to sound and to take meaning from different sounds and to process that. So yeah, singing is amazing and it's so evident. I've just started a community choir not long ago and it's just the most amazing week is different. You people, same people, you know, just it's it's such a beautiful, beautiful situation to find yourselves in.
00:58:43:14 - 00:58:44:09
Filly
Yeah.
00:58:44:11 - 00:58:51:07
Filly
And this is in Wynyard, northwest Tasmania. If anyone local is listening.
00:58:51:09 - 00:58:52:01
Filly
Very good.
00:58:52:05 - 00:58:53:11
Kristy
You don't have to sign up.
00:58:53:14 - 00:58:54:21
Kristy
Just come and seeing and.
00:58:54:22 - 00:58:57:08
Filly
Yeah. Yeah, I love that seeing.
00:58:57:08 - 00:59:00:13
Filly
Like we used to. Like our ancestors used to.
00:59:00:15 - 00:59:02:22
Filly
Yeah, exactly.
00:59:03:00 - 00:59:06:03
Filly
And you also did a sound healing bath for us.
00:59:06:05 - 00:59:06:13
Filly
Yeah.
00:59:06:18 - 00:59:31:05
Filly
Can you share? Like, for me, I was just so gooey. And you can tell when someone is really relaxed after a practice when they can't even say anything. And so, you know, when everyone came out of it, I was like, look. But I'm like, well, you know, I'm also the host and the retreat facilitator. So like, if anyone like to share what they've experienced, we're all just like.
00:59:31:06 - 00:59:32:18
Filly
No.
00:59:32:20 - 00:59:38:10
Filly
We cognitively don't know what we experience. When I'm so relaxed right now.
00:59:38:12 - 01:00:08:13
Kristy
That is that is a sign that is a signal that your body is so relaxed, your nervous system is safe, it is feeling calm, it is feeling regulated, you know, and if you had an an E, g attached to your brain, you would see those delta waves. You know, you would see the waves that are, that we have when we're in a sleep or, you know, at least relaxed, you know, Alpha State, Delta, maybe even theta.
01:00:08:14 - 01:00:11:14
Kristy
I don't know, we didn't have any EEG. Next time, let's do it.
01:00:11:15 - 01:00:12:06
Filly
Yeah.
01:00:12:08 - 01:00:36:13
Kristy
And so, you know, we can whatever's happening on your inside of your body is, often because of what's happened on the outside of the body. So in that session, I was very conscious when I sort of, when I designed it, I guess that there would be, you know, I don't know any of these women, you know, apart from you and Chris, I wouldn't have known anybody.
01:00:36:14 - 01:00:58:13
Kristy
So I was very conscious of just choosing something very gentle, choosing music and sounds that were very calm, very slow. I made sure I had a lot of silence in between the sounds as well, because in any kind of music, silence is just as important as sound.
01:00:58:15 - 01:01:40:20
Kristy
I, you know, I had a very relaxing drone in the background, and I had some sort of more grounding instruments, the, the ocean drum. And so I knew I wanted it to be a very restorative, calming, supportive intention for that session. Yeah. Some, you know, again, this is the idea you were talking about before, you know, what's when we experience sound differently if you use music to get the housework done or to do a gym session or something, you're going to choose upbeat music because that helps your body and your state match what the music is doing.
01:01:40:22 - 01:01:53:11
Kristy
So I really wanted to match a state of heart centeredness and safety and connection. And, you know, I think for most people that they experience that I know I did for myself.
01:01:53:12 - 01:01:55:21
Filly
And, and I.
01:01:55:23 - 01:02:16:02
Filly
I think to it really fit with the journey of where people were at at that night. So previous to that, it was getting aware, like, what is your body trying to say to you? And then leaning in, which can be really uncomfortable, and learning where your edge is. And then inside there's like, well, what's the root cause?
01:02:16:03 - 01:02:47:18
Filly
And then I did a grounding session before your grounding session, but mine was still quite like heavy lifting in terms of we're going back into the past and we're going to reprocess some past events and connecting with the part of you, which can require a lot of, internal energy to move that out. So the sound healing was so perfect that after like some pretty deep healing work to then just allow the body to drop down into that safety groundedness.
01:02:47:20 - 01:03:12:08
Filly
Which is really like it's a bit of a juxtaposition, but that just juxtaposition is also really so powerful. And builds nervous system capacity. So it's not just like a, hey, let's just do this so we can feel relaxed in this moment, but it's like you've just gone through this. Ask of like, healing and transformation and digging in and like, some big stuff has come up.
01:03:12:10 - 01:03:21:01
Filly
And you can also hold yourself in deep safety and regulation, which over time just builds that nervous system capacity up.
01:03:21:07 - 01:03:22:07
Filly
01:03:22:09 - 01:03:52:12
Kristy
Yeah. I'm so glad that you've, you've really clarified that as a process and the kind of the ups and the downs or the, the differences in it, because in life, you know, we see that life is not binary yet. There's a lot of opposite. So in terms of energy, there's yin and yang, there's action and then there's inaction, there's light and there's dark.
01:03:52:12 - 01:04:21:03
Kristy
So there's when we're learning and when we're going through any kind of learning, whether it be a healing or a transformational personal journey, or whether it be studying a language or, you know, selling a bit of music, there's the there's the, the time that you must allow for, do, do, do and think, think, think. And, and you know, absorb and gather the information and then there must be equal time, not in terms of hours or anything, but there must be an equal energetic.
01:04:21:09 - 01:04:21:21
Filly
01:04:21:22 - 01:04:24:22
Kristy
Balance for the process of that learning.
01:04:25:02 - 01:04:25:18
Filly
01:04:25:20 - 01:04:54:08
Kristy
And that was when you, when we first spoke about what, what the intention that you saw about my session and it aligned to grounding. I then started thinking yeah that would that I'm going to give such a gentle space of, of just being to allow that process, allow people to process in their own time because everybody processes things in their own time, in their own way.
01:04:54:10 - 01:05:03:22
Kristy
But if I can make a safe space that's fairly calm and gentle, then the magic can, you know, just take its own.
01:05:03:22 - 01:05:04:07
Filly
Shape.
01:05:04:09 - 01:05:17:20
Kristy
Over that time. Yeah, yeah. And it was really evident, wasn't it, when, when everybody finished and nobody was really wanting to share or needing to share. Whereas before when there was a lot of that action work.
01:05:17:21 - 01:05:18:06
Filly
Yeah.
01:05:18:07 - 01:05:30:18
Kristy
There's a lot of sharing and a lot of, oh yeah, this is what that meant. This was really a somatic experience. So I'm so grateful to have that for myself as well, you know, and then to be able to offer it.
01:05:30:22 - 01:05:31:11
Filly
Yeah.
01:05:31:12 - 01:05:45:06
Filly
So good. And then day three we danced. And like how many photos did the wonderful tea had taken you? Dancing girl. I love dancing with you.
01:05:45:08 - 01:05:46:13
Kristy
If I take your photos and not.
01:05:46:13 - 01:05:53:17
Kristy
Go ahead, just whatever. If I look like a bit of an idiot, you know, I've got an early childhood background. I don't mind being a bit silly.
01:05:53:19 - 01:05:54:07
Filly
I love.
01:05:54:07 - 01:05:59:05
Kristy
It was amazing that for me was like the icing on the cake dancing anyway.
01:05:59:05 - 01:06:01:08
Filly
But yeah. Oh yeah.
01:06:01:11 - 01:06:05:12
Kristy
So much. There was so much movement in my back.
01:06:05:13 - 01:06:07:12
Filly
And my yeah.
01:06:07:14 - 01:06:16:03
Kristy
That I'd never felt before. And I, I'm sure it was all that energetic, brief and release that happened.
01:06:16:05 - 01:06:19:14
Filly
And then you became this bird.
01:06:19:16 - 01:06:22:12
Filly
Yeah.
01:06:22:14 - 01:06:32:10
Filly
So good. Okay. So post retreat. What do you feel has shifted for you or changed for you? How do you feel different.
01:06:32:12 - 01:06:41:19
Kristy
Yeah, I I'll say this. I said on the call last night, I feel like I've developed an allergy to rushing, and I don't mind that allergy.
01:06:41:22 - 01:06:42:10
Filly
Yeah.
01:06:42:11 - 01:06:51:21
Kristy
I put that on any form. I have a physical reaction, not even a response. It's a physical reaction like, oh, that feels awful.
01:06:52:02 - 01:06:52:11
Filly
Yes.
01:06:52:15 - 01:06:56:09
Kristy
That makes up my, my, I feel like a migraine starting.
01:06:56:10 - 01:06:56:21
Filly
01:06:57:01 - 01:07:07:10
Kristy
And there's this beautiful voice said Christine. What's rushing going to do. It's going to make you stress. It's gonna make you cranky.
01:07:07:12 - 01:07:08:21
Kristy
That's that's not helpful.
01:07:08:23 - 01:07:10:11
Filly
Yeah. That's not how we.
01:07:10:11 - 01:07:12:15
Filly
Want to be.
01:07:12:16 - 01:07:32:12
Kristy
Yeah. And there's this. So there's this real embodiment of taking my time and doing things in my own way. And, you know, my my gorgeous husband who is so creative and quick at doing things and he can do 20 different things and he's like, bam, bam, bam bam bam.
01:07:32:13 - 01:07:33:04
Filly
01:07:33:06 - 01:07:52:19
Kristy
And I used to feel like I had to keep up with him. Yeah. And now I don't I'm like oh he's so good at that. Wow I wish I had that energy. But you know what? I don't feel I'm going to go and do my own energy. So there's no comparison itis anymore. There's no I should I could order.
01:07:52:21 - 01:08:06:14
Kristy
And I know that there will be. Of course, there's going to be times as we go further away from the retreat that things will come back in and tempt me to rush and things like that. I know I'm capable of listening to that voice.
01:08:06:15 - 01:08:08:07
Filly
Yeah, yeah.
01:08:08:08 - 01:08:29:17
Kristy
Got so many tools and strategies and people to remind me, especially now that we've made connections through the retreat with each other. And so, you know, the rushing, the taking time to, to do things because they make me feel good. I'm dead thing a lot more.
01:08:29:18 - 01:08:41:15
Kristy
Spending loads more time in the veggie patch and the orchard simply because I have the time to as well, and playing music and doing the things that light me up.
01:08:41:17 - 01:09:11:15
Kristy
Because that it. Yes, it likes me up, but I know that it is just putting out so much joy and good vibrations in the world. And you know, we all know there's so much awful stuff happening in the world, in our communities, all that kind of stuff. We can't control that. We can control what we have inside our, you know, our thoughts, our our emotions, our, you know, the words that we tell ourselves, our behaviours.
01:09:11:15 - 01:09:19:22
Kristy
And so I'm really just I'm just really feeling so aligned in my body, heart and mind. It's it's lovely.
01:09:20:02 - 01:09:22:16
Filly
Yeah. Love that. Very good.
01:09:22:19 - 01:09:45:10
Filly
And you said earlier, I think you use the words like I will remember this forever and ever. And it's the remembrance in the body, like at the soma level, where it does actually become a permanent change. Yeah. So I'd actually be really surprised if you got tempted to rush.
01:09:45:12 - 01:09:46:00
Filly
01:09:46:02 - 01:10:03:19
Filly
I mean I'm sure something will come over. It's just like oh there's a little bit of urgent energy there. Yeah. But yeah my, my experience is when something deeply shifts and it can in three days like I've experienced that myself, where it just becomes the new default way of being.
01:10:03:21 - 01:10:04:17
Kristy
Yeah.
01:10:04:19 - 01:10:05:02
Filly
01:10:05:03 - 01:10:10:17
Kristy
And that isn't that amazing that humans can do. You know this is the whole concept of neuroplasticity.
01:10:10:18 - 01:10:11:07
Filly
01:10:11:09 - 01:10:27:07
Kristy
When I was at uni in my undergrad back in the mid 90s, we were learning in the new science subjects that I was doing. We were learning that the brain pretty much stops after 25. And there was still that thinking then.
01:10:27:08 - 01:10:28:19
Filly
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:10:28:21 - 01:10:33:17
Kristy
But just thinking really I didn't I reckon that's true.
01:10:33:19 - 01:10:35:14
Filly
Yes. Oh my gosh.
01:10:35:17 - 01:10:59:11
Kristy
You know, we know so much more about our ability to to retrain the brain. Yes. It takes work. Everything that's worth it takes work, you know. But it doesn't have to be worth that. You have to do or force. It can be work that is nourishing. And you know, what does Jamun Fraser say, a good sacrifice or.
01:10:59:13 - 01:11:01:00
Filly
So.
01:11:01:02 - 01:11:12:14
Filly
You could either you could either suffer towards what you do want or suffer towards what you don't want. I think that's maybe what he might have said something else around sacrifice but that. Yeah.
01:11:12:15 - 01:11:12:19
Filly
That's.
01:11:12:21 - 01:11:14:13
Kristy
It's it's worthwhile suffering.
01:11:14:14 - 01:11:15:00
Filly
Yeah yeah.
01:11:15:00 - 01:11:15:20
Filly
Yeah yeah.
01:11:15:20 - 01:11:23:21
Kristy
It has a, it has an outcome that is so beneficial for you and you know. Yeah.
01:11:23:23 - 01:11:29:05
Filly
Just.,
01:11:29:06 - 01:11:30:01
Kristy
I lost my train.
01:11:30:01 - 01:11:33:04
Filly
Of thought that should.
01:11:33:06 - 01:11:38:02
Filly
It's like you didn't have to say anything else. Oh.
01:11:38:04 - 01:11:45:00
Filly
I'm so beautiful. Oh, thank you so much, Christie. Like.
01:11:45:02 - 01:12:05:20
Filly
So if anyone was considering joining one of our retreats in the future, or also ending body burnout method program, because when this podcast goes live, our doors will be opening again next month in October, which is super exciting. Do you have any any words for people who might be a bit interested?
01:12:05:22 - 01:12:14:23
Kristy
Yeah, I just, you know, you're not going to be surprised to hear me say, just do it. Just do it. If you don't like it, then stop it.
01:12:15:02 - 01:12:16:19
Filly
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:12:16:21 - 01:12:44:10
Kristy
Like be brave. This. You know, as I said, it's it's not a one thing fixes all. You're never going to get one magic bullet or. Magic pill. You your life is so filled with different seasons. You know, just because when you're an adult, you know, you look at kids growing up and you think, oh, yeah, there are, their babies and then they're toddlers, and then they think, you know, just because we get to adults and we're fully we're technically fully grown.
01:12:44:12 - 01:12:58:15
Kristy
Doesn't mean that we stop growing, though. Our brains are growing, our hearts are growing in different directions. So, you know, allow ourselves as adults the time to go through another type of puberty or another type of midlife crisis.
01:12:58:15 - 01:12:59:18
Filly
Or whatever it.
01:12:59:23 - 01:13:17:11
Kristy
But there's so many wonderful things you can find out about yourself if you if you're curious enough to lean in and and lead with a bit of compassion and going, you know what? I'm not perfect. I'm just going to give it a go.
01:13:17:13 - 01:13:18:04
Filly
Yeah.
01:13:18:06 - 01:13:45:18
Kristy
It's just yeah, it's it's so worth it. Retreats are worth it. Doing programs like yours is really worth it. You know, and I would I would always say, if people are hesitant, just keep listening out to things like this podcast or book or or just jumping on, you know, just talking to people, you know, just just get some information enough for you to go, yeah, this is actually going to work for me and I'm going to give it a go.
01:13:45:20 - 01:13:46:19
Kristy
Just be brave.
01:13:46:22 - 01:13:47:10
Filly
Yeah.
01:13:47:14 - 01:14:09:19
Filly
And I think what you said is super important, because I feel like sometimes people get a bit stuck in analysis paralysis. Even like maybe decision fatigue, which both can be trauma responses when it's like, well, if I'm going to invest my time, energy, money into this thing, it has to fix me. Otherwise it was a bad decision.
01:14:09:21 - 01:14:42:14
Filly
I don't even want to say fix it has to solve my problem. Otherwise it was a bad decision and I've wasted all my time, money and energy. Whereas my personal experience is it's just like this. If you allow yourself for it to just be this opening and unfolding over time. I've never done something like whether it was hired someone one on one or a program or a course or a retreat where I haven't got something out of it, that kind of just moved, moved me to the next, the next step, the next step.
01:14:42:17 - 01:14:51:11
Filly
And sometimes it was a quantum leap. And other times it was like, actually, I didn't really like that. But now I've learned more about myself and what I need in this season.
01:14:51:13 - 01:14:52:00
Filly
Yeah.
01:14:52:03 - 01:15:05:20
Filly
And it's so interesting. I think about things that I poopoo like ten years ago in health and wellness industry or spirituality that I'm like, you know, then five years or ten years down the track, I'm like.
01:15:05:20 - 01:15:08:16
Filly
Fully embracing me.
01:15:08:18 - 01:15:11:05
Kristy
I'm on the ground doing a podcast episode.
01:15:11:10 - 01:15:11:18
Filly
I'm like.
01:15:11:18 - 01:15:15:13
Filly
So unprofessional that I feel great.
01:15:15:14 - 01:15:18:15
Kristy
I love it.
01:15:18:17 - 01:15:24:18
Kristy
And this is the amazing thing about humans. We're so complex and strange and weird and wacky and wonderful.
01:15:25:00 - 01:15:25:09
Filly
01:15:25:11 - 01:15:28:21
Kristy
It's just, you know, so there's so many versions of ourselves.
01:15:28:22 - 01:15:31:08
Filly
You know. Yeah. Love it.
01:15:31:10 - 01:15:43:04
Filly
And if someone has really resonated with what you've been speaking about from the music perspective and sound healing and your community choir, best place for people to find you on Facebook.
01:15:43:06 - 01:15:55:22
Kristy
Yeah. I, I'm not on social media as much as I would have been in the past, and that's okay. So if people want to contact me, you know, my contact details, you're going to include them.
01:15:55:23 - 01:15:56:09
Filly
Yeah.
01:15:56:12 - 01:16:04:14
Kristy
Podcast. But yeah, my Facebook Movers and Shakers music page is is probably the best social that I'll be on.
01:16:04:16 - 01:16:11:08
Filly
Yeah. Cool. All right. Thank you so much. Lovely to talk to you. To talk to you.
01:16:11:08 - 01:16:13:17
Kristy
On sending you a virtual hug. Oh.
01:16:13:19 - 01:16:17:01
Filly
Get this clearing spray. Choo choo choo.
01:16:17:03 - 01:16:18:00
Filly
I forgot to bring.
01:16:18:00 - 01:16:19:20
Filly
One out.
01:16:19:22 - 01:16:20:16
Kristy
You've got nature.
01:16:20:19 - 01:16:21:20
Filly
I have nature.
01:16:22:01 - 01:16:23:12
Filly
It is fun.
01:16:23:14 - 01:16:28:17
Kristy
And sending lots of love and light to everybody listening in.
01:16:28:18 - 01:16:29:22
Filly
Absolute.
01:16:30:00 - 01:16:31:16
Filly
All right. Thank you. Beautiful.
01:16:31:20 - 01:16:33:15
Kristy
Thanks, Philly.
01:16:33:16 - 01:16:39:08
Filly
Yeah.
01:16:39:10 - 01:16:49:10
Filly
Thank you so much for listening. We so appreciate you. If you'd like to give us extra smiles, drop us a review and spread the love by sharing this episode.
01:16:49:12 - 01:17:07:20
