00:00:46:10 - 00:00:55:11
Chris
Let's dive in.
00:00:55:13 - 00:01:03:00
Filly
Hello podcast people, how are you? I'm very excited to bring another guest onto our podcast this week.
00:01:03:02 - 00:01:04:16
Filly
We get quite.
00:01:04:16 - 00:01:30:07
Filly
A few pitches through email from strangers who want to come on our podcast, which is lovely. It's lovely that people find our podcast a value and want to share their message on our podcast. A lot of the times we reject them kindly. But sometimes we'll say yes to a stranger that I've never heard about, but when I look into them, I'm like, oh, really great fit.
00:01:30:07 - 00:01:59:13
Filly
Or like, oh my gosh, this person's incredible. And this is the case we doctor Terri Fox, she's a USA integrative doctor and she specialises in mould illness and Lyme disease. And this conversation was really practical. So she gives so much practical advice and tips around how to treat mould so it doesn't make you sicker. And I really love Doctor Terri's words of hope.
00:01:59:13 - 00:02:20:21
Filly
At the end she said getting a mould toxicity diagnosis is a great diagnosis because it's actually easy to treat and you get better fast. So I love that because a lot of the narrative that I hear in the functional medicine industry is, oh, you got mould or, you know, even something like Candida, it's so hard to get rid of.
00:02:21:03 - 00:02:26:03
Filly
And I love that. Doctor Terri is is changing that narrative that actually, you know.
00:02:26:03 - 00:02:26:15
Filly
What, we.
00:02:26:15 - 00:02:52:12
Filly
Can actually heal and detox from mould fast when you know how. I also wanted her to come on the show because last week, if you heard the conversation last week, I interviewed one of my business friends, Marie, and she shared quite generously her mould illness journey. So I thought it would be nice to back that one up with, talking to an expert who also experienced her own mould illness.
00:02:52:14 - 00:03:20:06
Filly
But to give you some really tangible tips in terms of like, how do you actually treat mould? And it is something that we do in our practice as well. So officially, Doctor Terri Fox is a holistic, integrative functional medicine doctor in Boulder, Colorado. She has been practising functional medicine for 2022 years. She works on her patient's behalf as a medical detective, searching for underlying dysfunction.
00:03:20:06 - 00:03:48:20
Filly
Instead of treating the symptoms she has experienced. She is an expertise in chronic inflammatory response syndrome with mould toxicity and Lyme disease. Doctor Fox is a founding member of the International Society of Environmentally Acquired Illness. She is a founding physician, a travel and organisation committed to bringing affordable care to Lyme patients. She is on the medical advisory Panel for change, the ER Foundation.
00:03:48:20 - 00:04:12:18
Filly
You can kind of see why I said yes to this woman because she's pretty phenomenal. Doctor Fox has launched a mould Treatment Masterclass, an online treatment course for patients with mould toxicity. She is committed to bringing safe and effective mould treatment to people all over the world. She is the founder of Boulder Holistic Functional Medicine in Boulder, Colorado.
00:04:12:20 - 00:04:17:17
Filly
Let's dive into today's convo. It's a great one.
00:04:17:19 - 00:04:38:13
Filly
Welcome to the podcast, everybody. I'm super excited to have an amazing guest here who is. I am so excited to learn from her doctor Terri Fox, who is a specialist in mould illness and Lyme disease. And we get to dive right in. Thank you so much for coming on to our podcast today.
00:04:38:15 - 00:04:41:08
Dr. Terri
Thank you so much for having me. I'm a fan.
00:04:41:12 - 00:05:08:13
Filly
Yay! I'm excited. Okay. Sorry. I find that in this holistic integrative wellness space, a lot of practitioners who end up doing what they do often have their own story health, journey. Are you happy to, dive into that? Did you like did you get into mould illness and mould toxicity because of your own story? What did that look like for you?
00:05:08:15 - 00:05:09:06
Dr. Terri
Yeah.
00:05:09:06 - 00:05:12:09
Filly
So,
00:05:12:11 - 00:05:15:06
Dr. Terri
It was a long time ago. Now it feels like. But, when my.
00:05:15:06 - 00:05:17:11
Filly
Son was.
00:05:17:12 - 00:05:18:02
Dr. Terri
Eight years.
00:05:18:02 - 00:05:19:11
Filly
Old.
00:05:19:13 - 00:05:20:15
Dr. Terri
He started.
00:05:20:15 - 00:05:22:07
Filly
And he.
00:05:22:07 - 00:05:22:23
Dr. Terri
Just.
00:05:23:01 - 00:05:23:06
Filly
He.
00:05:23:06 - 00:05:23:13
Dr. Terri
Started.
00:05:23:13 - 00:05:24:19
Filly
Limping.
00:05:24:19 - 00:05:28:23
Dr. Terri
And he started getting anxious. He started getting staph. He was one of.
00:05:28:23 - 00:05:32:11
Filly
These and, like, really like, thrill.
00:05:32:11 - 00:05:42:22
Dr. Terri
Seeking, active, crazy, fearless young boys that was always running at full speed and climbing up things and jumping off. And then suddenly he was limping.
00:05:42:22 - 00:05:45:17
Filly
And, you know, I.
00:05:45:18 - 00:05:54:11
Dr. Terri
I'm a functional medicine doctor. I was doing some Lyme at that time. I really didn't want it to be Lyme. So I had, like, tested him for everything.
00:05:54:11 - 00:05:56:09
Filly
And,
00:05:56:11 - 00:06:02:09
Dr. Terri
Yeah, he got sick a lot, and he had anxiety and stuff that he just never had before.
00:06:02:11 - 00:06:03:12
Filly
And oddly.
00:06:03:12 - 00:06:03:22
Dr. Terri
He was.
00:06:03:22 - 00:06:05:09
Filly
Really,
00:06:05:11 - 00:06:11:00
Dr. Terri
Like an underweight, kind of scrappy little kid born a little early. And then he started putting on all this.
00:06:11:00 - 00:06:13:19
Filly
Weight out of nowhere.
00:06:13:21 - 00:06:18:00
Dr. Terri
And so I eventually figured out it was Lyme.
00:06:18:02 - 00:06:19:13
Filly
And,
00:06:19:15 - 00:06:24:18
Dr. Terri
Tried to start treating him myself, and that's never a good idea.
00:06:24:20 - 00:06:25:02
Filly
As.
00:06:25:02 - 00:06:41:16
Dr. Terri
A doctor, to treat your kid with something complicated like that. So I took him to a bunch of, a several Lyme docs that were really, really great. And Colorado. And then I ended up flying him out to see Doctor Steven Harris, who's a wonderful, Lyme doc.
00:06:41:17 - 00:06:42:02
Filly
In.
00:06:42:02 - 00:07:00:20
Dr. Terri
California. Yeah. And he started him on some antibiotics, and then he gave us a urinary micro toxin test. And this was over ten years ago. I mean, I didn't know anything about mould. And so we did the test on my son, and it was really, really high. And so at that stage, we.
00:07:00:20 - 00:07:01:09
Filly
Knew.
00:07:01:09 - 00:07:09:02
Dr. Terri
Oh, there's something else going on. And so I was able to get a good indoor environmental professional out to the house.
00:07:09:04 - 00:07:10:16
Filly
Who,
00:07:10:18 - 00:07:16:08
Dr. Terri
You know, did a full evaluation of the house in the attics and crawl spaces and.
00:07:16:10 - 00:07:17:02
Filly
00:07:17:02 - 00:07:25:02
Dr. Terri
You know, the, the vents and everything. And they found, three feet of water under our entire house.
00:07:25:02 - 00:07:26:09
Filly
Whoa.
00:07:26:11 - 00:07:47:05
Dr. Terri
So it was the year of the boulder flood. Boulder had, like, a 100 year flood, and our whole block got destroyed. So, like, everybody's house got destroyed and we had one of those blocks where there was tons of kids the same age, and they'd all go out and play together all the time. And it was super great. And we thought we had somehow come out of the flat okay.
00:07:47:07 - 00:07:56:23
Dr. Terri
But it was under the vapour barrier in our crawlspace. So the guy actually cut the vapour barrier and there was three feet of water under the whole house.
00:07:57:00 - 00:07:57:12
Filly
Wow.
00:07:57:17 - 00:08:05:18
Dr. Terri
And airborne spore traps were in the red, which, I mean, I don't think I've ever seen airborne spy shots in the red since then.
00:08:05:20 - 00:08:14:00
Filly
It was pretty awful. And yeah, so he progressed and.
00:08:14:02 - 00:08:40:01
Dr. Terri
Well, he got worse. And so I had done like a partial water damage fix because I knew nothing at that time about mould remediation and how to do it right and how to, you know, not just spread it and make it worse. And so initially I had like, of construction, a family run construction company out, and there was a leak in the attic above his room.
00:08:40:03 - 00:08:48:07
Dr. Terri
And so they came in and fix the water leak. But I didn't know about negative air containment or anything. So they pulled out like.
00:08:48:08 - 00:08:48:19
Filly
Wet.
00:08:48:19 - 00:08:53:01
Dr. Terri
Mouldy drywall and then carried it through his room and the rest of.
00:08:53:01 - 00:08:54:08
Filly
The house.
00:08:54:10 - 00:09:07:17
Dr. Terri
And that just sort of spreads it everywhere. Just as soon as you disturb it, it gets angry and lets up a bunch of mycotoxins. And from that moment he he can get out of bed. For six months. He was in.
00:09:07:17 - 00:09:08:02
Filly
00:09:08:02 - 00:09:11:06
Dr. Terri
Like nine out of ten pain, and his head.
00:09:11:08 - 00:09:11:18
Filly
Yeah.
00:09:11:18 - 00:09:17:04
Dr. Terri
Was awful. And then it was after that that I got the good indoor environmental professional out.
00:09:17:04 - 00:09:18:21
Filly
00:09:18:23 - 00:09:27:01
Dr. Terri
And so, you know, it was, took a while to get the house, properly remediated. It was a.
00:09:27:05 - 00:09:27:14
Filly
00:09:27:14 - 00:09:28:05
Dr. Terri
Absolute.
00:09:28:10 - 00:09:30:03
Filly
Mess.
00:09:30:05 - 00:09:57:16
Dr. Terri
And I really didn't believe that my son was going to get better in that house because it was so bad. And so, after about six months and lots of doctor visits and er visits and inpatient and hospital stays and countless endless nights up researching and trying to figure out things for him, we ended up, you know, getting the house remediated, selling it, and my marriage didn't make it out.
00:09:57:16 - 00:09:58:15
Filly
But but.
00:09:58:16 - 00:10:01:11
Dr. Terri
When we moved out, my, my son got.
00:10:01:16 - 00:10:02:05
Filly
Better.
00:10:02:05 - 00:10:15:12
Dr. Terri
And. Yeah, we put him on, phase two of mould detox, which is antifungals and biofilm and, you know, he got better pretty quickly, I think, as you know, kids do, they are a bit more resilient.
00:10:15:14 - 00:10:16:21
Filly
00:10:16:23 - 00:10:22:18
Dr. Terri
And. Yeah, and so that opened me up to the world of mould illness.
00:10:22:20 - 00:10:23:19
Filly
I was.
00:10:23:21 - 00:10:24:21
Dr. Terri
Sick at the time as.
00:10:24:21 - 00:10:26:06
Filly
Well.
00:10:26:08 - 00:10:28:04
Dr. Terri
But you said you have kids, right?
00:10:28:06 - 00:10:30:01
Filly
Yeah, yeah.
00:10:30:01 - 00:10:31:19
Dr. Terri
So you think of most moms.
00:10:31:19 - 00:10:34:10
Filly
Think of their kids first.
00:10:34:12 - 00:10:36:22
Dr. Terri
And so, you know, I was having.
00:10:37:00 - 00:10:37:16
Filly
Crazy.
00:10:37:16 - 00:10:47:01
Dr. Terri
Anxiety. I'd never really had much anxiety and migraines and insomnia. And, you know, I kind of ignored myself until my kid was.
00:10:47:01 - 00:10:49:05
Filly
Okay.
00:10:49:07 - 00:10:54:09
Dr. Terri
And then, you know, kind of later went back to to treating myself and getting well.
00:10:54:11 - 00:10:55:14
Filly
00:10:55:16 - 00:11:02:19
Dr. Terri
There was a lot of fight or flight with, you know, having two little kids, one really sick, getting divorced, moving.
00:11:02:21 - 00:11:03:07
Filly
You know.
00:11:03:08 - 00:11:13:18
Dr. Terri
I felt like I was sort of, you know, left the whole thing with nothing. And starting over in my 40s for kids and, you know. Yeah. And you talk about burnout. It was, pretty intense.
00:11:13:18 - 00:11:15:12
Filly
For a while.
00:11:15:16 - 00:11:42:14
Filly
Yeah, well, around burnout as well. So do you see a link there? So people who, who have experienced or are experiencing a lot of chronic stresses, they're doing a lot of things, juggling a lot of things. Do you see a link with, more susceptibility to developing mould related symptoms when someone is in that chronic stress burnout phase?
00:11:42:16 - 00:11:43:11
Filly
Yeah.
00:11:43:11 - 00:11:44:13
Dr. Terri
I mean, I think.
00:11:44:13 - 00:11:45:21
Dr. Terri
I think stress.
00:11:45:21 - 00:11:57:14
Dr. Terri
And all the things that stress does to your physiology and different parts of your physiology can contribute to your being more susceptible. And then there's also there's a thing with.
00:11:57:19 - 00:11:59:08
Filly
With mould.
00:11:59:10 - 00:12:19:16
Dr. Terri
Exposure and trauma. So if it happens in a moment at a time in your life or you're experiencing something traumatic, it tends to get a deeper into the system and into the nervous system. And it it's a bit harder to treat until somebody actually starts to handle their trauma.
00:12:19:18 - 00:12:20:21
Filly
Yeah, right.
00:12:20:23 - 00:12:34:13
Filly
Yeah. Do you like that part of your healing as well? Not just getting rid of the mould, but all the stuff you are going through with worrying about your child and like, oh yes, and all that sort of stuff. Yeah, yeah.
00:12:34:13 - 00:12:36:19
Dr. Terri
Lots of therapy.
00:12:36:21 - 00:12:37:23
Filly
That's I don't know if.
00:12:37:23 - 00:12:52:15
Dr. Terri
You're familiar with eMDR. Yeah. It's a type of I love that I did lots of that. I did shamanic Journeys. I, you know, did as much, you know, tons of, work on myself over the years after that.
00:12:52:17 - 00:12:53:01
Filly
You know.
00:12:53:01 - 00:13:01:08
Dr. Terri
It was sort of, you know, off and on and a little bit slower than ideal because, you know, as a single mom with two kids and working as a physician.
00:13:01:08 - 00:13:02:08
Filly
So I don't.
00:13:02:09 - 00:13:07:19
Dr. Terri
Have all the time in the world to, you know, do my own healing. But I did it little by little over time.
00:13:07:21 - 00:13:08:11
Filly
Yeah.
00:13:08:12 - 00:13:27:06
Filly
Yeah. Which I think is a cool, a good piece of, lesson as well for people who are often parents and they're working and their health isn't very good. You don't actually have to go away to Fiji for six months to heal that, that like, what is I mean, it would be really nice. What did that look like?
00:13:27:07 - 00:13:30:05
Filly
00:13:30:07 - 00:13:51:01
Filly
When you say little by little, like, what did that actually look like for you? And and what do you feel? Why do you feel like that was successful? Like, was it the little by little consistency or. Because this isn't I feel like is where people get stuck with the healing is that they're like, oh, that's just too hard.
00:13:51:01 - 00:13:55:02
Filly
Now I'm getting burned out from trying to heal from mould or whatever it is.
00:13:55:04 - 00:13:56:11
Filly
Right? Right.
00:13:56:11 - 00:14:20:01
Dr. Terri
So there were two parts when I didn't actually treat myself for mould at the time. And so I didn't really do that until he was well. And I came up for air maybe to two years later. And I started phase two more detox antifungals and the migraines I was having, like constantly just went away immediately. And then I wanted to shoot myself for not treating myself sooner.
00:14:20:01 - 00:14:23:01
Filly
I was like, what were you thinking?
00:14:23:03 - 00:14:44:09
Dr. Terri
And then it was kind of like, you know, fits and bursts of, you know, like, okay, I'm going to do therapy. You know, I'm not okay. I just been through so much trauma and, so I would, you know, dive in and do it once a week or once every two weeks with the eMDR is a particular kind of therapy that helps retrain your nervous system.
00:14:44:09 - 00:15:02:13
Dr. Terri
That works just really nicely for me. And so, you know, I would do maybe six months of it and I would do some, you know, when I maybe didn't have the kids for a moment, I would do some healing, like shamanic journeys and different stuff was I have a lot of, my friends are all kind of healers.
00:15:02:15 - 00:15:03:08
Filly
00:15:03:09 - 00:15:04:11
Dr. Terri
From, you know.
00:15:04:14 - 00:15:05:06
Filly
00:15:05:08 - 00:15:27:03
Dr. Terri
When I lived in San Francisco up for a long time. So I, you know, worked with a lot of them. And, I did a few things the whole time. So, you know, like, I always exercised through it in order to relieve some stress and, get some inspiration. So there were, you know, there were some threads of things that I was able to keep.
00:15:27:05 - 00:15:27:17
Filly
During.
00:15:27:17 - 00:15:34:17
Dr. Terri
The whole thing. And then, you know, I would kind of dive in at for periods with therapy or,
00:15:34:19 - 00:15:35:01
Filly
You know.
00:15:35:01 - 00:15:39:03
Dr. Terri
Other healing modalities. And then I would get super busy and then.
00:15:39:05 - 00:15:39:13
Filly
You know, I.
00:15:39:13 - 00:15:41:09
Dr. Terri
Would dive back in a few months later.
00:15:41:09 - 00:15:43:00
Filly
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:15:43:01 - 00:15:55:12
Filly
That's cool. Okay. So since then you've worked with lots and lots of people with mould issues. What are the what are the common signs and symptoms.
00:15:55:14 - 00:15:58:06
Filly
That you see in mould toxicity?
00:15:58:08 - 00:16:00:01
Dr. Terri
Yeah. So there there's.
00:16:00:01 - 00:16:28:04
Dr. Terri
A lot but fatigue and brain fog, cognitive dysfunction of all kinds where recall memory loss, all that kind of stuff and then headaches and migraines very common. And then anxiety and insomnia very common. And then sometimes depression. Other and kids. It presents with more neuro psych things like OCD and tics and things like that. Sensory integration.
00:16:28:06 - 00:16:31:01
Dr. Terri
And then there's a lot.
00:16:31:02 - 00:16:31:12
Filly
Right.
00:16:31:17 - 00:16:59:21
Dr. Terri
More commonly and adults and kids is that there's unusual neurological presentations that don't fit into any neurological diagnosis. So, you know, asymmetrical weakness, numbness, tingling, burning sensations, ice pick sensations, crawling sensations, muscle fasciculation where all your, you know, muscles are twitching. Balance issues, there's a lot of visual changes.
00:16:59:21 - 00:17:01:11
Dr. Terri
And, so those are all.
00:17:01:11 - 00:17:19:13
Dr. Terri
Kind of the neuro things that don't really fit into a neurological diagnosis. And then one of the other really common things that's always a tip off for me is rapid weight gain or loss. That's like unexplainable. Like I dropped £15 that I didn't need to lose and looked at emaciated and.
00:17:19:17 - 00:17:21:11
Filly
Wow, I gained a little.
00:17:21:11 - 00:17:22:23
Dr. Terri
Fan put on £30.
00:17:23:04 - 00:17:26:15
Filly
Wow. This time frame. Yeah, completely.
00:17:26:15 - 00:17:28:22
Dr. Terri
Different category was so uncomfortable.
00:17:29:00 - 00:17:29:16
Filly
00:17:30:01 - 00:17:31:01
Dr. Terri
That's a common.
00:17:31:04 - 00:17:31:15
Filly
And a.
00:17:31:16 - 00:17:38:15
Dr. Terri
Weight. Yeah. Weight gain, weight loss. Sometimes I she's stuff, you know, anything fungal can increase rashes.
00:17:38:17 - 00:17:39:14
Filly
00:17:39:16 - 00:17:48:21
Filly
Yeah. Something that I've seen which I'm not sure if you mentioned it. Like allergies would be is quite a common allergy.
00:17:48:21 - 00:17:51:12
Filly
Yeah. Yeah. They got a lot worse.
00:17:51:12 - 00:17:54:19
Dr. Terri
Yeah. Congestion and wheezing and coughing.
00:17:54:22 - 00:17:57:17
Filly
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
00:17:57:19 - 00:18:13:09
Filly
The way it's interesting in the way that it showed up completely different between you and your son. What's, what's the actual physiology of what's happening there for someone who either, like, has the rapid weight loss or the rapid weight gain? I'm curious.
00:18:13:11 - 00:18:17:08
Dr. Terri
Oh, for the oh, I could talk about the physiology for all the rest of it.
00:18:17:14 - 00:18:19:13
Filly
Yeah. I think it,
00:18:19:15 - 00:18:21:15
Dr. Terri
Affects lockdown in some.
00:18:21:15 - 00:18:23:01
Filly
Way, but.
00:18:23:03 - 00:18:39:04
Dr. Terri
I think many of us in the field checked leptin levels, and it didn't exactly correlate the way you would think, you know, with the weight changes. You know, I'm honestly not sure about the path of, of the weight gain and loss.
00:18:39:06 - 00:18:40:10
Filly
00:18:40:12 - 00:18:42:17
Dr. Terri
It doesn't have anything to do with like what you're eating.
00:18:42:22 - 00:19:04:07
Filly
Yeah. It's there. Yeah I find mode. It may be histamine stuff as well. Which mode then can trigger a histamine. In tolerance or sensitivity or an overload. But it is, it's like the weird stuff. It's the weird stuff that like a doctor or maybe just a standard natural path would just be like, I don't really know what's going on there.
00:19:04:07 - 00:19:06:00
Filly
That's weird.
00:19:06:02 - 00:19:06:15
Filly
Right?
00:19:06:21 - 00:19:11:11
Dr. Terri
Right, right. So now there's all this information around Ncache and, you know, all.
00:19:11:11 - 00:19:12:02
Filly
That.
00:19:12:04 - 00:19:14:22
Dr. Terri
People that get huge full body histamine.
00:19:14:22 - 00:19:16:18
Filly
Dumps and, you know, get.
00:19:16:18 - 00:19:22:12
Dr. Terri
Eyes and throat swelling in of the legs since we actually treated him for that. But I don't think he had that at the time.
00:19:22:14 - 00:19:30:11
Filly
Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So it's not always linked there might just be like a solar mould issue. Or it could be oh he had Lyme as well though.
00:19:30:11 - 00:19:33:07
Dr. Terri
Yeah he did, he did.
00:19:33:11 - 00:19:33:16
Filly
Yeah.
00:19:33:22 - 00:19:36:00
Dr. Terri
And moles a common trigger.
00:19:36:00 - 00:19:36:15
Filly
For
00:19:36:17 - 00:19:39:08
Dr. Terri
Cats. But not every male patient has I'm cast.
00:19:39:10 - 00:19:41:16
Filly
Yeah. Yeah.
00:19:41:17 - 00:19:56:19
Filly
Which is also why people show up with different symptoms as well. Because it's not just one thing. It's often like a complex of different things. And a body will respond to mould in different ways depending on what else is going on in their system. Okay.
00:19:56:19 - 00:19:58:02
Filly
So in fact.
00:19:58:04 - 00:20:22:03
Filly
In functional medicine, I mean, we have a model and I'm pretty sure you do to test not guess. It's like, let's actually figure out what's going on and run some tests. So what are your go to test to one pinpoint if there's a mould toxicity issue. And are you doing any other testing on other body systems to help in terms of treatment and clearing the mould spores from the body?
00:20:22:04 - 00:20:24:07
Dr. Terri
I do tons of testing.
00:20:24:10 - 00:20:25:07
Filly
00:20:25:09 - 00:20:47:18
Dr. Terri
I'm a scientist and a doctor and I love data. And so, but for more specific, I really just do a urinary mega toxin test. So here in the US, we have real time labs I really like. There is I've been around a long time. And vibrant is another company that does a good, urinary mycotoxins test.
00:20:47:20 - 00:20:55:02
Dr. Terri
And so the, the real time labs one is very specific, meaning you don't get false.
00:20:55:04 - 00:20:57:00
Filly
Positives with food.
00:20:57:00 - 00:21:19:02
Dr. Terri
And things like that, but it's not as sensitive. So you can miss a decent amount of it. And so I do a pretty serious provocation here with for the real time labs, I do an IV of that's the title clean and Bluetooth I own, and then I collect their urine after. And so the people that get sick from mould are the ones that can't detox it, they can't metabolise it.
00:21:19:02 - 00:21:37:08
Dr. Terri
And get it out in the in the stool, in the sweat. And so it just builds up in the system until it, you know, overflows the system and the system crashes. So if you just do a spot urine, you might not catch it, because, I mean, really, if they were metabolising it and detoxing it in the year and they probably wouldn't end up in my office.
00:21:37:12 - 00:21:37:19
Filly
00:21:38:14 - 00:21:54:05
Dr. Terri
And so, so yeah, I provoke that one, the vibrant one, I do a little provocation. It doesn't have to be provoked. You can do some light based on the glutathione and an infrared sauna or a hot bath or, you know, something like that as a provocation.
00:21:54:07 - 00:21:55:11
Filly
So yeah.
00:21:55:13 - 00:22:02:10
Filly
That's an important step because if you aren't doing the provocation, then it might be inconclusive. The results.
00:22:02:10 - 00:22:04:03
Filly
Yeah, I get it. Yeah.
00:22:04:03 - 00:22:07:16
Dr. Terri
Especially for the real time labs. That one really has to be provoked.
00:22:07:19 - 00:22:09:03
Filly
Yeah. Okay.
00:22:09:05 - 00:22:13:18
Filly
See, do we have the real time?
00:22:13:20 - 00:22:15:21
Filly
Yeah. Right. There's, you know.
00:22:15:23 - 00:22:27:15
Filly
We use are in labs. I think it might be I can't remember what brand it is, but there's a, there's involved talks that one that we get from America.
00:22:27:17 - 00:22:28:11
Filly
Okay. Yeah.
00:22:28:11 - 00:22:30:03
Dr. Terri
I wonder it might be vibrant.
00:22:30:05 - 00:22:32:13
Filly
Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
00:22:32:13 - 00:22:50:10
Dr. Terri
And then I might do a really big blood draw, comprehensive blood draw. And everybody was involved because you know that a lot of times it's an endocrine disruptors. It's a nerve toxin affects the central nervous system. And a lot of times by the time I get a patient in clinic the whole system is crashed. So, you know, they've got no thyroid.
00:22:50:10 - 00:22:53:22
Dr. Terri
They've got no androgens low testosterone or DHEA.
00:22:54:00 - 00:22:55:02
Filly
They're, you know.
00:22:55:04 - 00:22:56:06
Dr. Terri
Nutrients are.
00:22:56:10 - 00:22:57:10
Filly
Really low.
00:22:57:10 - 00:22:58:23
Dr. Terri
And so I sort of.
00:22:59:01 - 00:22:59:10
Filly
Feed.
00:22:59:10 - 00:23:05:19
Dr. Terri
The system to try to strengthen it enough to undergo small detox and treatment.
00:23:05:21 - 00:23:06:20
Filly
00:23:06:22 - 00:23:11:23
Dr. Terri
And so like I usually do it that way, I kind of feed it with all the things that it's low in and.
00:23:12:01 - 00:23:13:08
Filly
Get it strong.
00:23:13:08 - 00:23:17:07
Dr. Terri
And then and then I do, you know, a two phase mobile detox protocol.
00:23:17:09 - 00:23:18:04
Filly
00:23:18:06 - 00:23:30:21
Filly
Yeah. Okay. Cool. So testing for but then also looking at other key body systems that are often depleted to then increase the body's capacity to be able to clear them out. Yeah.
00:23:30:23 - 00:23:33:14
Filly
Barclay. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Cool.
00:23:33:16 - 00:23:44:23
Filly
So can we dig into the, the detox or sorry the phases. So your, your protocol for clearing mode. You've got two main phases.
00:23:45:01 - 00:23:45:20
Filly
Yeah.
00:23:45:22 - 00:24:10:15
Dr. Terri
So it's a, it's two phases. It's a mode eradication protocol. And phase one, what we're doing is basically teaching the body how to begin pulling out and detoxifying and metabolising these mycotoxins. You can, like, begin to take that total body burden load down a bit. But the body has to sort of learn how to pull them out.
00:24:10:17 - 00:24:11:12
Filly
Before.
00:24:11:12 - 00:24:14:10
Dr. Terri
You can, you know, throw in an antifungal.
00:24:14:12 - 00:24:14:18
Filly
That.
00:24:14:18 - 00:24:18:10
Dr. Terri
Would kill colonise mould in the system in the body.
00:24:18:12 - 00:24:19:04
Filly
But if.
00:24:19:04 - 00:24:23:16
Dr. Terri
When you kill colonised or living mould in the, in the body.
00:24:23:21 - 00:24:24:03
Filly
It.
00:24:24:03 - 00:24:41:17
Dr. Terri
Releases its contents, which are those mycotoxins that make you sick. So mycotoxins are the toxins that mould release. And when you kill them, it releases more. And so the body has to sort of be practised. It, catching those and pulling them out. And so the, the order is really important.
00:24:41:19 - 00:24:42:15
Filly
00:24:42:16 - 00:24:48:19
Dr. Terri
And, and the pace at which you do it. So, you know, one of the, some of the things that people.
00:24:48:21 - 00:24:49:05
Filly
You know.
00:24:49:05 - 00:24:58:08
Dr. Terri
Do frequently that they're unsuccessful or they make themselves more sick is, you know, they go too fast. They they up all their binders too quickly.
00:24:58:08 - 00:24:59:01
Filly
And they.
00:24:59:03 - 00:25:04:09
Dr. Terri
Start antifungals way too quickly in the process. And so there's a, you know, it's a pretty easy to.
00:25:04:09 - 00:25:05:20
Filly
Follow order.
00:25:05:20 - 00:25:07:07
Dr. Terri
Of things that you can do.
00:25:07:07 - 00:25:07:14
Filly
To.
00:25:07:16 - 00:25:11:00
Dr. Terri
Keep yourself from making yourself more sick.
00:25:11:02 - 00:25:12:15
Filly
Yeah. By releasing my.
00:25:12:16 - 00:25:14:17
Dr. Terri
Moulds toxins and your body can.
00:25:14:17 - 00:25:15:08
Filly
Get out.
00:25:15:10 - 00:25:39:05
Filly
Yeah. Do you like is that always just like cut and dry when it comes to mould the detox binding and then the killing or to sometimes you have to flip that like I'm thinking about if someone has a lot of gut issues and there's leaky gut and there's nothing I can do there. And parasites and overgrowth that one of the ways we detox is back through either got out through the bowels.
00:25:39:06 - 00:25:49:08
Filly
So is like is it sometimes do sometimes you have to change that order a little bit or like kind of like back and forth between gut data for clearing it out.
00:25:49:10 - 00:25:54:08
Dr. Terri
100%. So there's nothing black and white about what I do.
00:25:54:10 - 00:25:56:09
Filly
Yeah.
00:25:56:11 - 00:26:04:04
Dr. Terri
But yeah. So I mean, if somebody is not eliminating, you have to get them eliminating before you can start phase one, because phase one is binders.
00:26:04:06 - 00:26:04:11
Filly
And.
00:26:04:11 - 00:26:23:00
Dr. Terri
Glutathione and nasal sprays and organ detox that helps you open up all your own detoxification pathways to begin draining these things that have built up and in your bucket and your total body burden. And so, you know, you do that for a while until your body sort of practised at it.
00:26:23:02 - 00:26:24:04
Filly
But,
00:26:24:06 - 00:26:32:13
Dr. Terri
You have to be eliminating first because they're going to make you more constipated. And if they if you get completely constipated on the protocol, it won't work. And so.
00:26:32:15 - 00:26:33:08
Filly
A big.
00:26:33:10 - 00:26:37:03
Dr. Terri
Part of it is figuring out how to get your bowels regular and.
00:26:37:03 - 00:26:40:11
Filly
Moving. And one of the really.
00:26:40:13 - 00:26:43:01
Dr. Terri
Interesting and weird things is.
00:26:43:03 - 00:26:43:15
Filly
People.
00:26:43:15 - 00:26:49:16
Dr. Terri
That, have more IBS like symptoms that alternate from diarrhoea to constipation. They get.
00:26:49:18 - 00:26:50:02
Filly
Really.
00:26:50:02 - 00:26:52:05
Dr. Terri
Nervous about going on binders.
00:26:52:07 - 00:26:53:20
Filly
But I can't tell you.
00:26:53:20 - 00:27:05:09
Dr. Terri
How often it seems to just regulate it. Like there's something about the binders are constipated. And then you take your magnesium, which is drawer softening, and then before you know what they're having, like regular movements every day.
00:27:05:11 - 00:27:07:19
Filly
Yeah. Yeah.
00:27:07:19 - 00:27:34:12
Dr. Terri
And so and, you know, I do stool studies all the time and do, you know, gut healing as well, but, so mould can colonise and, and the upper respiratory tract or the GI tract. And so a lot of times that gut dysfunction is actually mould living in your gastrointestinal tract. So, you know, it's that that protocol is actually what gets at that underlying dysfunction.
00:27:34:14 - 00:27:41:21
Dr. Terri
But if somebody is with some of their primary symptoms are GI, I'm probably gonna make them do it, you know, still studying food pan all of that.
00:27:41:22 - 00:27:42:04
Filly
At the.
00:27:42:04 - 00:27:43:13
Dr. Terri
Beginning as well.
00:27:43:15 - 00:28:08:01
Filly
Yes. So I kind of like getting that system, working better before you then go and do the pulling out the mould. I've seen a link with Sibo, so reoccurring small intestinal bacterial overgrowth when it's just like, why are you back again? Why are you back again? What's going on? Have you seen a link with that in an underlying hidden mould issue?
00:28:08:02 - 00:28:08:18
Filly
Yeah.
00:28:08:18 - 00:28:13:14
Dr. Terri
So where there is mould there's yeast. So they're both.
00:28:13:14 - 00:28:15:02
Filly
Fungal and.
00:28:15:02 - 00:28:35:05
Dr. Terri
Mould creates all the right environment. For years to flourish and go crazy. And so what I found, after doing this for 12 or 15 years, is that yeast is a part of every mould case. Sometimes it's a huge part of the case, and sometimes it's a little part, and you don't really know until you start getting in there and treating it.
00:28:35:07 - 00:28:47:17
Dr. Terri
But the water damage buildings have used in them as well, like they have Candida and other different forms, yeast. And so, so clearing yeast is a big part of the mould protocol for me.
00:28:47:19 - 00:28:50:05
Filly
I'm glad I answer your question.
00:28:50:07 - 00:28:55:04
Filly
Yeah, it was also about Sibo as well. So the side I.
00:28:55:05 - 00:28:56:16
Filly
Know I do, I didn't.
00:28:56:16 - 00:28:57:11
Dr. Terri
Get to it.
00:28:57:13 - 00:29:01:19
Filly
But I think a lot of Sibo is c fo small.
00:29:01:19 - 00:29:03:00
Dr. Terri
Intestinal.
00:29:03:02 - 00:29:04:20
Filly
Overgrowth.
00:29:04:22 - 00:29:07:23
Dr. Terri
And so the way that I treat.
00:29:07:23 - 00:29:08:22
Filly
Yeast.
00:29:09:00 - 00:29:17:12
Dr. Terri
Usually will get rid of the Zebo or the CFO. And then sometimes it'll go away with mould treatment. But yeah, I'm not.
00:29:17:12 - 00:29:18:15
Filly
I mean, I don't even.
00:29:18:15 - 00:29:19:13
Dr. Terri
Do.
00:29:19:15 - 00:29:20:01
Filly
Those.
00:29:20:01 - 00:29:26:15
Dr. Terri
Sibo protocols anymore with the 20 different herbs and, you know, biofilm and.
00:29:26:17 - 00:29:28:06
Filly
For the fungus and then, yeah.
00:29:28:06 - 00:29:37:05
Dr. Terri
The FODMAPs, because I just find it just comes back like it just sort of it doesn't it doesn't clear it, you know, with the facts and and and people.
00:29:37:06 - 00:29:38:01
Filly
Do have.
00:29:38:03 - 00:29:38:20
Dr. Terri
Three anyways.
00:29:38:20 - 00:29:40:08
Filly
So yeah, I do.
00:29:40:08 - 00:29:44:15
Dr. Terri
Are you familiar with low dose immunotherapy.
00:29:44:17 - 00:29:47:00
Filly
No LDL so.
00:29:47:00 - 00:29:51:05
Dr. Terri
I use that for yeast. I find it's really effective and.
00:29:51:11 - 00:29:52:06
Filly
Pretty.
00:29:52:08 - 00:29:53:10
Dr. Terri
Quick. And the results.
00:29:53:10 - 00:29:54:08
Filly
Yeah. Yeah.
00:29:54:09 - 00:29:57:05
Dr. Terri
And a lot of times that's that gets rid of the Sibo or CFO.
00:29:57:07 - 00:29:59:03
Filly
Yeah. Cool. Great.
00:29:59:05 - 00:30:00:23
Filly
00:30:01:01 - 00:30:14:10
Filly
I know people always like to know the specifics. So are you happy to share some supplements or nutrient tips that you would use in phase one of the one? What is it that the binding, the binding of the times.
00:30:14:10 - 00:30:17:13
Filly
And I'm thinking, yeah, yeah.
00:30:17:14 - 00:30:21:14
Dr. Terri
So phase one is bind and unwind. And so that.
00:30:21:14 - 00:30:22:12
Filly
Is.
00:30:22:14 - 00:30:24:12
Dr. Terri
Some liposomal glutathione.
00:30:24:13 - 00:30:26:03
Filly
Or ro.
00:30:26:05 - 00:30:31:03
Dr. Terri
I have several brands that I like. I'm not sure. What do have brands you like that you guys can get out there.
00:30:31:06 - 00:30:32:21
Filly
Designs for health by.
00:30:32:21 - 00:30:35:19
Filly
Ceuticals metagenomics.
00:30:35:21 - 00:30:37:19
Filly
Yeah. Yeah.
00:30:37:21 - 00:30:52:00
Dr. Terri
So I like body bios I like research, nutritional is tri fortify. I like a central pro. I like quicksilver. Scientific's their liposomal. Yeah. There's a lot. You just want it to be liposomal.
00:30:52:00 - 00:30:52:22
Filly
Or else it won't.
00:30:53:03 - 00:30:55:10
Dr. Terri
Work because you'll digest it. And then you.
00:30:55:10 - 00:30:56:19
Filly
Pick the binders.
00:30:56:19 - 00:31:05:22
Dr. Terri
Based on your urinary mycotoxins results. So there's different binders for different strains of mould. So for example.
00:31:05:22 - 00:31:06:13
Filly
If you have.
00:31:06:19 - 00:31:26:22
Dr. Terri
Tri code the scenes show up on your, urinary mycotoxins test. Tri coated things come from black mould or stack batches. They're very, strong, intense nerve toxins and attacked your nervous system. They, have been used as chemical warfare agents. They're pretty.
00:31:26:22 - 00:31:28:15
Filly
Nasty. But.
00:31:28:17 - 00:31:55:23
Dr. Terri
Like, if you use colostrum and it won't touch, check out the scene. So the best binder for takeover scenes is activated. Charcoal. And then there's another micro toxin called Clio toxin that comes from Aspergillus several different forms. And that best binder the binder has an affinity for it is that night clay. So you pick your binders based on your results, and you layer them and one by one to make sure that.
00:31:56:01 - 00:31:57:18
Filly
You don't try to pull out.
00:31:57:18 - 00:32:02:03
Dr. Terri
More than the body can actually detox. And they are in the stool in the sweat.
00:32:02:05 - 00:32:02:08
Filly
And.
00:32:02:08 - 00:32:18:22
Dr. Terri
You don't make yourself more sexy. Kind of start with one and you work your way up. You layer in the next one, you work your way up. If you ever feel systemically worse, you decrease your dose. Try it again in the next week to see if it was coincidence or not. And if it wasn't, you stay there for a while.
00:32:19:00 - 00:32:20:11
Filly
Yeah.
00:32:20:13 - 00:32:35:18
Dr. Terri
So yeah. So there is binders. Is glutathione. There's nasal sprays. Nasal sprays are kind of trying to kill any colonise mould in the system because this is the most common place. So the sinuses are the it's just the most common place where it will live in you after a mould exposure.
00:32:35:20 - 00:32:36:21
Filly
Can I just another time?
00:32:36:23 - 00:32:47:07
Filly
Can I ask a question about that? Is this is the nasal spray part of, phase two when it's time to kill off, or is that still the binding phase?
00:32:47:09 - 00:32:48:07
Dr. Terri
That's phase one.
00:32:48:07 - 00:32:50:09
Filly
Yeah, yeah. Okay.
00:32:50:11 - 00:33:12:10
Dr. Terri
Yeah. So the phase one is glutathione to help you. So glutathione is needed for phase to detox to metabolise mycotoxins. And so and when you've had a big mould exposure, your body uses up all your glutathione to try to get it out on its own. And so it tends to be depleted. And when you're good, if anyone is depleted, you can't detox mould.
00:33:12:10 - 00:33:38:22
Dr. Terri
But also you have a lot of cognitive dysfunction because it's really needed for brain health. And you low glutathione levels are associated with higher risk of all forms of dementia. And so there's glutathione. There's the binders for your specific micro toxin load. And then there's the nasal sprays to try to get a little agent in here. And then there's organ detox support, which we call drainage.
00:33:38:22 - 00:33:56:04
Dr. Terri
Also. And it's really just trying to open up your own kidney, liver, lymphatic extracellular matrix drainage that you can begin draining these things that are sort of filling up your bucket. And, you know, micro toxins and other toxins as well.
00:33:56:06 - 00:34:03:00
Filly
Yeah. So cool. And then for phase two, when it's all about killing off, pulling it out.
00:34:03:01 - 00:34:05:22
Filly
Caleb can scale up. He could.
00:34:06:00 - 00:34:07:02
Filly
Tense.
00:34:07:04 - 00:34:11:23
Filly
He he's like, it's like, I'll do that, I will, I will.
00:34:12:01 - 00:34:14:00
Filly
I don't want to be killed five.
00:34:14:02 - 00:34:15:13
Filly
Nine and unwind or kill.
00:34:15:13 - 00:34:16:05
Dr. Terri
Or be killed.
00:34:16:07 - 00:34:20:08
Filly
So, you know, the way I think of it is the more.
00:34:20:08 - 00:34:35:16
Dr. Terri
The world is on the planet to decompose and turn over organic matter and turn it into a new rich soil. But if you've got more living in your system, you don't want it to decompose your, you know, living organism from the inside out. And that.
00:34:35:18 - 00:34:36:01
Filly
Is.
00:34:36:01 - 00:34:45:19
Dr. Terri
Is if it's a previous exposure and it's living in you, the binders are never going to, you know, they'll they'll bind the micro toxins that are releasing and you might feel better.
00:34:45:21 - 00:34:46:20
Filly
But they're going to keep.
00:34:47:00 - 00:34:58:20
Dr. Terri
Releasing micro toxins and increasing your load until you kill whatever's in the system. And so phase two is is antifungals and bio foam.
00:34:58:22 - 00:34:59:05
Filly
I mean it.
00:34:59:05 - 00:35:00:07
Dr. Terri
Is described by.
00:35:00:07 - 00:35:01:22
Filly
Yeah, that'd be great. Yeah.
00:35:02:03 - 00:35:06:16
Filly
Yeah, yeah. So, yeah I'll, I'll do the whole like.
00:35:06:16 - 00:35:24:20
Dr. Terri
So colonisation means, that you've sort of picked it up and it's made a home and you, so maybe you had a mould exposure when you got sick or you don't even live there anymore, but you've sort of brought it with you. And so imagine you're sleeping in a house that has, you know, water damage and a lot of mould.
00:35:24:20 - 00:35:25:16
Filly
And, you know.
00:35:25:16 - 00:35:34:12
Dr. Terri
Eventually one night while you're sleeping and it's humid and the mould is for living, you're going to breathe one into your sinuses and it can stick.
00:35:34:14 - 00:35:35:15
Filly
Replicate.
00:35:35:15 - 00:35:40:22
Dr. Terri
Have babies and create communities and families, and they aggregate together to form a.
00:35:40:22 - 00:35:45:13
Filly
Colony. And I know it's so nice. And then they.
00:35:45:15 - 00:35:49:07
Dr. Terri
Secrete this glycoprotein matrix around the colony.
00:35:49:09 - 00:35:49:15
Filly
That.
00:35:49:15 - 00:35:55:08
Dr. Terri
Protects them from your immune system. Then your immune system can't get at them and your antifungal.
00:35:55:09 - 00:35:56:16
Filly
Can't get at them.
00:35:56:18 - 00:35:57:07
Filly
That's why my.
00:35:57:09 - 00:36:01:08
Filly
House, their house protects them.
00:36:01:10 - 00:36:04:20
Dr. Terri
And so eventually you've got to get through the biofilm.
00:36:04:21 - 00:36:05:03
Filly
In.
00:36:05:03 - 00:36:18:16
Dr. Terri
Order to get rid of it entirely. But it's in again, it's really critical that it's all done in the right order. So like, you know, some people will find out they have mould and then they'll start with a biofilm agent and then they're opening.
00:36:18:16 - 00:36:22:10
Filly
Up this whole colony of mould and.
00:36:22:12 - 00:36:26:06
Dr. Terri
Toxins and releasing it into the body. So you're just.
00:36:26:08 - 00:36:26:20
Filly
Letting.
00:36:26:20 - 00:36:34:10
Dr. Terri
The body with more of the very same thing that made you sick in the first place. And then they go, I can't do this. I can't do this mould detox.
00:36:34:10 - 00:36:35:00
Filly
But.
00:36:35:02 - 00:36:39:16
Dr. Terri
You know, if you do it in the right order, it's really very painless. It's it's a bit of a pain.
00:36:39:18 - 00:36:40:07
Filly
But it's.
00:36:40:07 - 00:36:47:09
Dr. Terri
Complicated. But it should. You should always feel better and nothing you shouldn't feel significantly worse. And a good mould protocol.
00:36:47:11 - 00:36:57:11
Filly
Yeah, yeah. So you get the binders with the the biofilms. Are you doing them like prior to then taking the anti.
00:36:57:13 - 00:36:58:17
Dr. Terri
Fungal antifungals.
00:36:58:17 - 00:36:59:08
Filly
First.
00:36:59:08 - 00:37:00:22
Filly
Yeah okay. Yeah.
00:37:01:00 - 00:37:02:08
Dr. Terri
Yeah. So you want to take down the.
00:37:02:08 - 00:37:03:15
Filly
Load kill what.
00:37:03:15 - 00:37:07:19
Dr. Terri
You can. And then you layer in the biofilm and start opening things.
00:37:07:20 - 00:37:09:08
Filly
Up the house. Yeah.
00:37:09:10 - 00:37:10:03
Filly
Right.
00:37:10:05 - 00:37:22:07
Dr. Terri
But by then your body is like catching the mould that's released with binders and metabolising it with the glutathione own. And truly clinically. And I think most of my colleagues.
00:37:22:07 - 00:37:23:18
Filly
Feel the same way is.
00:37:23:18 - 00:37:28:16
Dr. Terri
The needle changes, you know, moves the most when you start the antifungals. That's when people.
00:37:28:16 - 00:37:31:16
Filly
Go, oh, oh my gosh, I feel okay again.
00:37:31:16 - 00:37:36:09
Dr. Terri
Like I feel so much better. But if you do them right in the very beginning, you're not going to feel better.
00:37:36:14 - 00:37:52:14
Filly
Yeah, yeah. The antifungals in phase two, are you basing those off the mould test as well? Like the different types of mould. And then there's specific antifungals or it's kind of just broad spectrum. It kills everything.
00:37:52:15 - 00:37:53:07
Filly
Yeah.
00:37:53:09 - 00:37:55:17
Dr. Terri
So I start with the broad spectrum one.
00:37:55:17 - 00:37:56:12
Filly
Yeah.
00:37:56:14 - 00:38:10:14
Dr. Terri
And it took on as well. And I do it with nystatin. And then, you know, if we don't get all the way there, we're not getting much of a response. Then I'll switch to more kind of XL, which gets some different strains, but as an, as broad spectrum.
00:38:10:20 - 00:38:11:08
Filly
00:38:11:20 - 00:38:20:18
Dr. Terri
And then if for some reason somebody can't tolerate it or kind of XL, I would do like an amphotericin B, compounded liposomal.
00:38:21:00 - 00:38:30:12
Filly
Yeah. And there are some herbal, antifungals that I've had some luck with. But you know, not.
00:38:30:12 - 00:38:38:06
Dr. Terri
Quite as much, unfortunately, because, you know, mostly I like to try to, tackle things organically or naturally.
00:38:38:06 - 00:38:40:22
Filly
And, Yeah.
00:38:41:00 - 00:38:44:08
Filly
Yeah, sometimes you need something a bit heavier.
00:38:44:09 - 00:38:47:14
Filly
With.
00:38:47:16 - 00:39:13:13
Filly
Okay. Sorry, I have a question around, because in our practice, we, we do a lot of, like, deeper what we call metaphysical work. So we tend to get a lot of people who have done so many protocol, so many physical protocols and, you know, and it even like if I review their labs and I review what they've done, it's kind of like, yeah, that that kind of yeah, you like it looks good.
00:39:13:13 - 00:39:43:14
Filly
You've been doing the right things. But then their response is, but I still feel crappy or even worse. So, just circling right back to what you were chatting about with your own journey as well, and you realise that there's like, okay, there's a trauma in a nervous system component to it. Are you happy to chat about the connection between the nervous system and the importance of supporting that part of you as well, when it comes to fully being able to recover from mould toxicity?
00:39:43:15 - 00:39:47:20
Filly
Yeah, absolutely. So,
00:39:47:22 - 00:39:52:17
Dr. Terri
Some kind of nervous system resetting is necessary for.
00:39:52:17 - 00:39:54:23
Filly
Most, admin mode.
00:39:54:23 - 00:40:06:09
Dr. Terri
Patients at least. So, their patients I tend to see have been, you know, have had chronic, complex illness for years. And, you know, they can't work and they can't do very much.
00:40:06:09 - 00:40:08:11
Filly
And it's,
00:40:08:13 - 00:40:13:19
Dr. Terri
It's traumatic unto itself, the, the actual getting sick and the disease. And then.
00:40:13:21 - 00:40:14:09
Filly
You go see.
00:40:14:09 - 00:40:28:23
Dr. Terri
20 specialists and doctors and they all say there's nothing wrong with you. And they start feeling like they're crazy. And, oh, there's, there's trauma from the medical system saying, there's nothing wrong with you, like, take an antidepressant, just get up or.
00:40:29:00 - 00:40:29:08
Filly
You know.
00:40:29:08 - 00:40:46:18
Dr. Terri
There's trauma from that, and then there's trauma from being sick and not being able to, you know, do the things that you love, that bring you balance and joy and take care of your kids and go to work and, you know, all of that. And then so and then, you know, a lot of people have trauma as well.
00:40:46:18 - 00:40:54:23
Dr. Terri
And if it happened, it, you know, around the same time, that absolutely needs to get, work done. And so I sort of.
00:40:54:23 - 00:40:56:09
Filly
00:40:56:11 - 00:41:18:01
Dr. Terri
Divide it into two different categories. So limbic retraining and then vagal retraining or toning. And you know, ideally if somebody is really sick and sensitive, they do both. But sometimes we can sort of decide which one might be more appropriate based on their clinical picture and symptoms.
00:41:18:03 - 00:41:18:09
Filly
And.
00:41:18:09 - 00:41:34:07
Dr. Terri
Then if patients are not progressing or let's say they're in phase one and they can't get past to tap, so I've activated charcoal, then I have them go directly to the nervous system reset module and, you know, start there.
00:41:34:09 - 00:41:35:05
Filly
00:41:35:07 - 00:41:40:06
Dr. Terri
And then so sometimes it has to come in at the beginning in order for them to even do.
00:41:40:08 - 00:41:42:22
Filly
The tree earlier protocol.
00:41:43:00 - 00:41:54:06
Dr. Terri
And then at the end, almost everybody has to do it because, you know, mould is everywhere. And we live in these, you know, buildings that are made of mould, food with water pipes.
00:41:54:06 - 00:41:56:06
Filly
Going through them. And, you.
00:41:56:06 - 00:42:02:05
Dr. Terri
Know, we sort of hope for the best. And, and water is going to happen. You know, it's always going to happen. It's around.
00:42:02:05 - 00:42:04:10
Filly
And if we panic.
00:42:04:12 - 00:42:12:00
Dr. Terri
Every single time we walk into another building that is mouldy, or we get a little water leak somewhere in our home.
00:42:12:02 - 00:42:14:21
Filly
Then, basically.
00:42:14:22 - 00:42:16:23
Dr. Terri
It's not that it's in your head.
00:42:17:01 - 00:42:17:14
Filly
But your head.
00:42:17:14 - 00:42:34:02
Dr. Terri
Is making it worse. So your fear and panic and anxiety and emotional response to the physical symptoms of or just even smelling it and the fear of the symptoms coming back, they exacerbate the inflammatory pathway of mould itself. And so.
00:42:34:08 - 00:42:34:15
Filly
Like if.
00:42:34:15 - 00:42:43:23
Dr. Terri
You can separate the physical sensation from the emotional response, that can help settle things bit so that you're not quite.
00:42:43:23 - 00:42:44:23
Filly
As at.
00:42:44:23 - 00:43:02:23
Dr. Terri
Least emotionally limbic, adrenaline reactive. Yeah. When you get exposure because they're going to happen. And so you got to kind of come to peace with, you know, it's it's okay, I'm going to be fine. And my body has learned how to do this. I know how to do this. I know what to do. I've gotten better before. I'm going to get better again.
00:43:02:23 - 00:43:04:03
Dr. Terri
And it's going to be quickest.
00:43:04:05 - 00:43:05:03
Filly
00:43:05:18 - 00:43:11:12
Dr. Terri
Yeah. So do you guys also do a lot of limbic and vagal retraining.
00:43:11:12 - 00:43:12:08
Filly
Yeah.
00:43:12:08 - 00:43:41:05
Filly
And we probably go I don't know if the word is deeper or higher. But also looking at like deep unconscious core beliefs that is the framework in which you're perceiving yourself and your environment and the world around you. So a lot of the times too, when there's been a chronic presentation, there's beliefs that have been created along the way that like, either I'm the weird one, I'm broken, I'm sensitive, I'm weak, my body can't handle these.
00:43:41:07 - 00:44:00:06
Filly
And so, yeah, it's it's looking at the brain, the neural pathways, nervous system, but also deep, beliefs and past distressing events that can stay stuck in your system as well, that then feed that amygdala part of the brain. The part that freaks out when it's exposed to old triggers.
00:44:00:08 - 00:44:02:15
Filly
Exactly. Yeah.
00:44:02:17 - 00:44:14:04
Dr. Terri
And even, like, patients identifying with being sick, are being patient, you know, like I have to there's some point in the, at the, in the, at work that we're doing together that I have to tell.
00:44:14:04 - 00:44:15:02
Filly
Them you're.
00:44:15:02 - 00:44:23:01
Dr. Terri
Healthy and you got to believe you're healthy, and you got to start telling yourself you're healthy. Because you don't want to walk around saying, I'm sick.
00:44:23:01 - 00:44:25:11
Filly
Yeah, I'm are you will be.
00:44:25:13 - 00:44:39:04
Filly
Yeah. And so often there's secondary gains around that too that this is how I've often resourcefully found significance or this is how I've like I used to be the person that did everything for everyone else. And so then when I got sick.
00:44:39:06 - 00:44:41:13
Filly
Suddenly the.
00:44:41:15 - 00:44:46:22
Filly
The, the tide turned and actually it felt nice to be looked after for once in my life.
00:44:47:00 - 00:44:47:14
Dr. Terri
So that, you know.
00:44:47:15 - 00:45:11:17
Filly
There's so many, so many different intricacies that need to be exposed, unravelled, let go of, something that you mentioned, around was it vagal tone and amygdala work. And you said sometimes you will send a patient to one or the other, depending on what's happening for them. Can you just explain that a little bit, like when would you.
00:45:11:18 - 00:45:20:09
Filly
Yeah. What did the difference between the two and when and what presentation would you say is one or the other?
00:45:20:11 - 00:45:22:07
Filly
So usually.
00:45:22:07 - 00:45:44:08
Dr. Terri
What I do, I have handouts and stuff that have, you know, a bunch of programs that help with limbic retraining and a bunch that help with vagal toning. And I often tell them, you know, just check them all out online, see which one resonates with you, because, you know, it's like seeing a therapist. You have to sort of, you know, resonate with them and feel like you speak the same language.
00:45:44:08 - 00:45:45:18
Filly
And.
00:45:45:20 - 00:45:47:12
Dr. Terri
And then.
00:45:47:14 - 00:45:49:07
Filly
So this is this is.
00:45:49:07 - 00:45:58:19
Dr. Terri
My personal clinical experience. I don't know that this has any real data behind it, but when somebody is, presentation is a lot.
00:45:58:19 - 00:45:59:22
Filly
Of.
00:46:00:00 - 00:46:03:05
Dr. Terri
You know, nausea, hiccups.
00:46:03:07 - 00:46:06:21
Filly
Reflux or, throat stuff or.
00:46:06:22 - 00:46:11:20
Dr. Terri
Palpitations or, you know, things that are obviously in line with the vagus.
00:46:11:20 - 00:46:13:12
Filly
Nerve. I'll have.
00:46:13:12 - 00:46:14:20
Dr. Terri
Them start off with.
00:46:14:20 - 00:46:16:20
Filly
That.
00:46:16:22 - 00:46:25:02
Dr. Terri
And there's a couple there's one program that does both, which is really nice. Yeah. So if if the clinical symptoms sound.
00:46:25:04 - 00:46:25:12
Filly
You know.
00:46:25:12 - 00:46:38:06
Dr. Terri
Like so the vagus nerve goes from your brainstem to your diaphragm. And if, if a lot of their presentation is things that are triggered in that area, they don't often tell them to, you know, start with some vagal retraining.
00:46:38:07 - 00:46:56:12
Filly
Yeah, that was definitely my old issues. But I always used to say to myself, or like when I started working with practitioners before I became a practitioner myself, it's like it's here. It's kind of like from the the top of my throat, right down to the bottom of my boobs. Like everything happens here.
00:46:56:14 - 00:46:59:20
Filly
Exactly, exactly. Vagus nerve.
00:46:59:22 - 00:47:10:14
Filly
And what about the amygdala? So would that be more maybe like, like mental emotional thought pattern presentation or.
00:47:10:16 - 00:47:14:21
Dr. Terri
Right. I mean, I sort of put that in to I mean, both, honestly, but.
00:47:14:23 - 00:47:15:07
Filly
A little.
00:47:15:07 - 00:47:31:16
Dr. Terri
Bit more, I think of the limbic retraining, but, I mean, I guess I but imagine that vagal retraining and having your system be able to go appropriately between parasympathetic and sympathetic is going to calm down the amygdala.
00:47:31:16 - 00:47:33:08
Filly
And also.
00:47:33:10 - 00:47:38:10
Dr. Terri
Do you do you know of anything that's directed directly to the amygdala?
00:47:38:12 - 00:47:41:16
Filly
Oh.
00:47:41:17 - 00:48:10:17
Filly
I think it's probably more people respond to different, whether it's different practices, exercises like if it's a real amygdala, the brain is freaking out. Oh my gosh, it's the trigger. And I find both, breaking the trigger. So identifying what is the trigger if we're talking about mode and then and noticing how your body responds to that. But then breaking their response.
00:48:10:17 - 00:48:41:23
Filly
So then symbiotically bringing safety back to the body. And so it's like okay, if we want a safe response now to mode or, you know, we work with a lot of people with food sensitivities, for example, then before you eat the dairy, start creating like a safety anchor in your body. And, feel light and love and bring it like a really safe and wonderful memory back so that you can, like, viscerally feel that as you're consuming the dairy or sniffing the mode.
00:48:42:01 - 00:48:56:03
Filly
That's why I find that that can be really helpful from the limbic point of view. But it's it's both top, top down, bottom up, because the body, the body, your mind is connected. So you need both approaches.
00:48:56:05 - 00:49:00:03
Filly
Yeah. Yeah I totally agree.
00:49:00:05 - 00:49:06:04
Filly
Oh this is vino awesome. So good. Thank you so much for generously sharing.
00:49:06:06 - 00:49:07:00
Filly
Everything.
00:49:07:00 - 00:49:28:09
Filly
That you do. Both your story your son's story, but also giving some really tangible, practical steps in terms of how someone can effectively treat, mould. Now you have some awesome resources. Are you happy to share those? To our audience and we'll make sure that the links are in the show notes.
00:49:28:11 - 00:49:32:17
Filly
Yeah. Of course. So, I launched a live.
00:49:32:17 - 00:49:38:10
Dr. Terri
Mould treatment class for patients last summer. I've said that.
00:49:38:12 - 00:49:39:16
Filly
00:49:39:18 - 00:49:56:22
Dr. Terri
You know, I can't, I'm a M.D., so I can't treat people out of state because I'm not licensed in all the states. And, you know, I get calls from people all over the world wanting to treat their mould. And I felt like I couldn't treat all of them. And, you know, could I create something that was a little more do it yourself?
00:49:56:22 - 00:50:15:08
Dr. Terri
But really kind of handheld and spoon fat, and they're not going to make themselves more sick. And so I did, a live course this summer with like a my with a cohort, a live cohort. It went amazingly, I had some people in Australia and it.
00:50:15:10 - 00:50:16:01
Filly
Yeah.
00:50:16:03 - 00:50:29:03
Dr. Terri
And so now I am sort of editing and repackaging and, you know, getting it ready to just, you know, sell it as a do it yourself, class or that because I really think a basic.
00:50:29:03 - 00:50:30:07
Filly
Mould treatment.
00:50:30:07 - 00:50:43:07
Dr. Terri
Protocol, it should be accessible to the world. And there's, you know, the information's out there. And with all the natural disasters, I mean, our whole country has just flooded like three times in a row.
00:50:43:09 - 00:50:44:07
Filly
You know, every.
00:50:44:09 - 00:50:49:23
Dr. Terri
Every mould second and a year or so, that the information should be out there. And so.
00:50:49:23 - 00:50:50:17
Filly
I.
00:50:50:19 - 00:51:17:11
Dr. Terri
You know, created this course and now I'm, it's available now for, you know, if anybody was interested and going through the course and then we're going to do another launch at the probably the end of November, that'll have the course with live Q&A with me twice a month. So, and so yeah, so I there's available and that's, Doctor Fox medical detective.com is their website.
00:51:17:11 - 00:51:25:14
Dr. Terri
And then there's a webinar that I, you know, did several times for that before I did the live course that's on there that talks a lot more about the.
00:51:25:14 - 00:51:26:18
Filly
Class that.
00:51:26:18 - 00:51:33:04
Dr. Terri
You can watch. And you can also, sign up for the newsletter and get a free mould prevention guide.
00:51:33:06 - 00:51:35:20
Filly
Yeah. So cool. Did you get that, from mould?
00:51:35:20 - 00:51:37:18
Dr. Terri
You really just don't want it to happen again. Yeah.
00:51:37:18 - 00:51:43:15
Filly
So the prevention is very nice. Yeah, yeah.
00:51:43:15 - 00:51:47:09
Dr. Terri
And then we also created a coupon code for all of your listeners.
00:51:47:09 - 00:51:48:08
Filly
Thank you.
00:51:48:10 - 00:51:50:19
Dr. Terri
But they can get $100 off of the course.
00:51:50:20 - 00:51:51:23
Filly
Awesome. Yeah.
00:51:52:01 - 00:51:53:15
Dr. Terri
And we'll put that in the show notes.
00:51:53:17 - 00:52:17:02
Filly
So thank you so much. Oh, make sure they're all in the show notes. And any any last words of wisdom. If someone's struggling and they know they've got mould issues, or maybe they've got all the weird health issues that we're just talking about, what would you say seem like first, first step advice or words of wisdom or hope?
00:52:17:04 - 00:52:21:12
Dr. Terri
Yeah. I mean, the first thing that I want to say about mould is it's I.
00:52:21:13 - 00:52:22:00
Filly
Find it.
00:52:22:00 - 00:52:45:16
Dr. Terri
Really treatable. I find it to be a great diagnosis. As people get better, they have wonderful clinical turnarounds. They get all the way better. It's not that long. It's not that painful. It's not one of those other diagnoses where you get worse before you get better. You should really feel better or neutral the whole way. And so, you know, I just feel like absolutely have hope.
00:52:45:16 - 00:52:59:10
Dr. Terri
It's it's it's really not that hard to get better for mould. The hardest part is to get yourself into a, a clean environment where you're no longer being exposed. And, and after that to to treat it and get rid of it and get your health.
00:52:59:10 - 00:53:00:03
Filly
Back.
00:53:00:05 - 00:53:05:16
Dr. Terri
And your life back is is totally possible. It's not a terrible diagnosis at all.
00:53:05:18 - 00:53:27:01
Filly
I love that that's such, such, I love that because I feel like there's a big narrative that mould is really hard. It's going to be really hard to clean. You going to have issues for a really long time. It makes you sick that it, before you get better. So thank you for that. Where all of that, like, let's flip the narrative so that, like, what if healing could be easy?
00:53:27:02 - 00:53:30:11
Filly
Yeah, exactly. I love that. Awesome.
00:53:30:13 - 00:53:33:02
Filly
All right, well, thank you so much.
00:53:33:04 - 00:53:34:09
Filly
Thank you for having me.
00:53:34:09 - 00:53:35:17
Dr. Terri
So nice to talk to you.
00:53:35:18 - 00:53:42:08
Filly
Awesome. And thanks everyone for listening today.
00:53:42:10 - 00:53:52:12
Filly
